All but the unsorted bookmarks folder are displayed in the default Firefox bookmarks menu. The unsorted bookmarks folder on the other hand is only visible in the Firefox bookmarks manager. It is unclear why that decision has been made by the developers as it is quite uncomfortable to access the unsorted bookmarks this way. Remember that new bookmarks that get added by clicking on the star in the Firefox address bar appear in the unsorted bookmarks folder.

There are actually two possible solutions to display the unsorted bookmarks folder more visibly. The first option is to go into the Firefox bookmarks manager by pressing [CTRL Shift B] and dragging and dropping the unsorted bookmarks folder into a different location. This can be either one of the toolbars or a location in the visible Firefox bookmarks menu.

The second option is to add a new bookmark in the location the unsorted bookmarks folder should appear and add the following line as the location:

place:folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS

The name of the bookmark can be anything. It might be required to restart Firefox before the folder is accessible in the web browser. Dragging and dropping the unsorted bookmarks folder is probably the best way of adding the unsorted bookmarks folder to another location.

Firefox Bookmarks: Reset Special Folders

Browsing

Firefox

firefox 3

firefox bookmarks

firefox bookmarks folder

firefox tips

most visited

recent tags

recently bookmarked

unsorted bookmarks
<guid

Unsorted Bookmarks is being used to store new bookmarks that have been added to Firefox by clicking on the star in the Firefox address bar. In case you have done that and could not find the bookmarks afterwards; That’s where you have to look. It is only visible in the Bookmarks Manager.

The Most Visited bookmarks folder is placed in the Firefox bookmark’s toolbar displaying the most visited items that can be found in the Firefox history. The Recently Bookmarked folder contains all the recent bookmarks that have been added to Firefox while the Recent Tags folder does the same for tags that the user added.

All but the Unsorted Bookmarks folder can be deleted easily by right-clicking the entry and selecting delete from the menu. Once they are deleted there is no obvious way to get the folders back.

<span

To do that the user needs to enter about:config in the Firefox address bar and filter for the name browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion in there.

Only that entry should appear now. A right-click on that entry and the selection of Reset will reset the folders and activate them again after a restart of the Firefox browser.
