The following hack is actually one that you can use to disable intro movies for many games.

You do find the six intro movies of Unreal Tournament 3 in the UTGame Movies directory. They all have the extension bik which is being used by the Bink movie format. Anyway, locate the following file names in that directory Copyright_pc.bik, EpicLogo.bik, Intel_Duo_logo.bik,Midwaylogo.bik, Nvidia_pc.bik and UE3_logo.bik.

Now rename all of those six files, you could for example replace bik with bak so that you know that these are backups in case something goes wrong. Once you have renamed the original files create six new files using the original names. Just create a new text document and name it accordingly.

If you start Unreal Tournament 3 afterwards you will notice that the intro movies are skipped and that you jump right into the main menu.

Weekend Fun Open Arena

Entertainment

Games

open arena

quake III arena

quake remake

unreal-tournament
<guid

Two shooters are competing for the crown of the ultimate shooter. Their names: Unreal Tournament and Quake III Arena. I have to admit that I fell in love with Unreal Tournament and did not play Quake III Arena that much which was still a good game but not that good, hehe.

The game for this weekend is called Open Arena which is a Open Source version of Quake III Arena released just a few weeks ago in a new version. The game does not try to rebuild every inch and corner of Quake III but is still a pretty solid remake of the original game with technical advancements such as higher texture resolution and polygons in the character models.

You can play single player against bots or multiplayer against human opponents. Various game modes such as Capture The Flag or Death Match can be selected. The game is fast, has some servers with good pings available and is in my opinion one of the better games that are available freely on the web.

The size is reasonable with about 160 Megabytes. There is no installation involved, just unpack and run it. Try it out, it is really a great game.

<img

Unreal Tournament however was not the only game that I was playing. I also enjoyed Quake 3 Arena, Counter Strike (Source) and many other PC shooters.

The website that published the list is currently not available, here is a short recap of the five ways:

The “Otherâ€? Nade Kill – Being killed by a grenade is a common way to die in Counter Strike. Dieing because someone (a team mate for instance) hit you with the grenade subtracting 1HP from your hitpoints is pretty embarassing. Everyone else will have a good laugh though

Crushing People – Some games subtract 1HP if you fall on someone. This is another funny way to die.

Cratering – I’m able to make that jump.. Well, seeing someone trying to jump from a cliff to the other side and failing miserably is funny.

The Shank – Being killed by the worst weapon in the game.

The Telefrag – the beloved telefrag. This was the BEST weapon in Unreal Tournament until Epic decided to nerf it. A friend of mine was so good with the friggin teleporter that he was constantly accused of cheating. There was no cap in the beginning which meant you could teleport around many times in a second.
Telefragging means that your character appears in the same spot that another character is standing in. The character standing in that spot is instantly integrated which means that this is a very good way to get rid of someone with armor, shield and the best weapons.

Are there other ways that you can think of ? Rocket Boosts gone wrong for instance is surely a nice way to die although it resembles Cratering.

Playing Unreal Tournament with a Power Glove

Cool

unreal-tournament

Ok, this guy now uses his powerglove from the nes and changes it that it can be connected to modern day pcs. It´s an replacement for his mouse at the beginning. A reader of this article was even more progressive and mapped movement controls as well as fire on the power glove. That means he is able to play unreal tournament only by using this powerglove and nothing else.

It seems to work well, just take a look at this fantastic movie. This is actually something similar to what the Nintendo Revolution might introduce to games.
