I had a second look at Miro some days ago. Miro is a Internet TV client, some use the term Videocast player, but that’s not really what it is all about. Miro can play Video feeds of course but it can do more. It plays videos from video sites like Youtube and Dailymotion and downloads those videos to your hard drive so that you can watch those videos anytime you want without connecting to the Internet.

If you do not want to download music from Bittorrent you now have an alternative that might suite you better. You can use the Bitlet Bittorrent Applet to stream the music contained in the torrent to your computer. The applet phrase hints that Java - not Javascript - is required to stream the music from torrent files to your computer.
I’m not a regular on torrent websites but I know that they all seem to have a similar layout. No eye candy, no Ajax, just simple searches and results. That’s fine with me but it feels like they are all missing some technology trends that emerged recently with Ajax for instance. Youtorrent is a torrent search engine that tries to be what Youtube is for videos and Youporn is for sex videos - the key player of the torrent search engines.

Most people don’t ever think that it is possible that free and legal torrent websites exist, they automatically assume that torrents equal illegality. The list of then free and legal torrent sites proves this assumption wrong. NewTeeVee did a great job of compiling the list which is just a tiny fraction of the whole torrent scene. I still think that it is a good beginning to show others who do not know that much about bittorrent that there are indeed legal applications.
A new kind of Trojan was discovered recently which targets only Japanese file-sharers. When executed the Trojan displays manga-like images with a reminder which differs depending on which image is displayed. The text however looks similar and always asks the user to stop using P2P networks. One of the messages for instance reads “”Ah, I see you are using P2P again…if you don’t stop in 0.5 seconds, I’m going to kill you.” Talk about a threat boy, jeeze.”
