One example: Say one of your authors uses double spacing in all of his articles. Your blog on the other hand uses single spacing. You could now go ahead and remove the double spaces manually whenever you get a new article from that author, or you could fire up TextMorph and let the program do that for you in shorter time and with no margin for error.

So what can you do with TextMorph?

Those are the standard tools that you can use with the click of the button. But TextMorph is more powerful than that.

It features a search and replace tool which you can use to replace text in the open text document. Well, maybe that was not that spectacular, but how about creating your own custom cleanup tool?

You can combine up to five different filters that will then be applied to the text document if you select the tool.

Still not convinced? How about the option to process multiple files at once. This is very handy if you have a collection of text documents that you need to process. Instead of loading and processing them individually, you could use the Multiple file Morph feature in the application to do just that.

What else do we have? You can use keyboard shortcuts to run commands faster. The F1-F8 keys for instance are automatically mapped to the first eight custom tools that you create.

The program supports command line parameters so that it is possible to process text documents directly from the command line. That’s also excellent if you know your way around batch files.

Apple, founded and based in “the land of the free”, a country where freedom of speech and freedom of expression are ingrained into the rights of every individual, has decided that their own customers clearly can’t be trusted to exercise good judgement when using a mobile phone.

Okay, so now I’ve got the frightening bit out of the way, this isn’t a technology that will be installed on every new Apple phone.  It’s intended to be used by parents on their children’s phones and it will also help them to improve (I’d imagine by changing text automatically and not actually teaching them anything) their grammar and spelling.

There is an important message here though that Apple seem to be going down a road where they want more and more control over what people can and can’t do with the hardware that they’ve bought and paid for.  This commentator can’t really see how preventing children from using sexual language will teach them responsibility.

If you want to teach responsibility to a child you have to allow them to use this language so that they can flounder with it, learn what it all actually means and eventually find out how it’s best utilised.  Simply banning a child from doing something will, as well all know, simply have the opposite effect to the one you want by making it more desirable.  Thus children will simply use the language elsewhere but in a way that can’t easily be monitored by parents and, as such, will make it far more difficult to teach children responsibility.

I would have thought Apple might have figured this out, but clearly not.  This is, I have to say, a very silly idea and Apple would be much better off investing time and effort on the software the public really wants, which would prevent adults from sending text messages, email and social networking messages that we’ll only later regret when we’re drunk.  Now that is an app we’d all pay for!

It is not the first application to provide users with these options, we have reviewed several programs like PyRoom for Linux or Write Monkey for the Windows operating system.

Crea Writer launches as a full screen application that can either display a selected background image or a white background. Users who donate can change the background colors and other settings of the program (for instance reversing the colors to a black background and white text color).

The controls are not shown in full screen mode unless the mouse is moved to either side of the screen. All controls are then displayed in a left and right sidebar with the left bar containing text formatting controls and the right file operations and options.

The standard version is limited compared to the version that users get when they donate. It for instance lacks hotkeys, auto saves, some text formatting controls, the break timer or the configurable display colors.

The background image can either be disabled, set to be transparent or exchanged with another image. The text component is not nearly as complex as that offered by Word or other word processors. It lacks some features that one would expect from text editors like the ability to create chapters or to include images.

It should be sufficient for users who only want to write text in a minimalistic distraction free environment. But then again, using Notepad in full screen mode has nearly the same effect.

Crea Writer can be downloaded from the developer’s website. It works with most Windows operating systems.

He replaced the information manually – and probably still is – which is a lot of repetitive work. There are tools to aid the user in handling text replacement tasks and Replace Text is one of them.

Replace Text is a text replacement software program for the Windows operating system that can replace text in multiple files at once. The program has been designed to work with all kinds of text files including plain text files but also html or php files to name a few.

All text replacement operations are handled in groups which remain in the program even after the text replacement operation has finished. This gives the user lots of flexibility. The work colleague for instance could use the same group in every year and change the replacement text to reflect the new year.

Single or multiple files and even complete directories can be added to each group. It is possible to use include and exclude filters to perform the text replacement only on the desired file types.

Replace Text can be configured to save the processed files in another location on the hard drive or to create a file backup of the files so that it is possible to keep the original files before they have been altered.

The software supports a variety of text replacement operations from standard string replacements to exact matches, ranged searches and regular expressions. Standard string replacements can be configured in a few seconds by entering the original and replacement text.

Replace Text is a free software program for the Windows operating system that can replace text in multiple files at once. Its advanced features make it a prime choice for users who need a text replacement program.

Data, that is text mainly, is entered in Dasher by moving a pointer to the appropriate chars that appear on the right side of the application’s screen. The developers claim that experienced users can write up to 39 words a minute when using the computer mouse and 29 when using a motion detection device. It is probably better to visualize the way it works, below is an animated gif explaining the concept.

Dasher has been designed for situations like these:

• when operating a computer one-handed, by joystick, touchscreen, trackball, or mouse;
• when operating a computer with zero hands (i.e., by head-mouse or by eyetracker);
• on a palmtop computer;
• on a wearable computer.

It basically works by moving the pointer on the character boxes that appear on the left side. Dasher is using language predictions to determine the most likely and less likely chars giving the most likely chars more space in the interface. The program will also learn over time so that new words become easier to write the next time.

Users who want to try out Dasher should know that they need to spend quite some time before it becomes easier to work with the software program.

The online service will compute a list of words that have been found in the text and categorize them in multiple ways. The words are for example sorted by relevancy and subject. A click on any word will also display the relationship to other words in the text, a definition of the word and example usage from the text.

A word cloud is displayed that is showing all words that have been discovered in the text. It is possible to filter words by relevancy or subject which can reduce the amount of words quite a bit. The subject filter is interesting as it displays word that fall into subjects such as math, science or art.

VocabGrabber has been designed to create a vocabulary list which can be a great help to understand and learn the text that has been pasted into the web form. It is currently only working with text that has been written in English.

Jumps display bookmarks, paragraphs and headings of the text in a separate always on top window which makes it convenient and comfortable to navigate the text. The colors and pretty much any design parameter can be changed in the program’s option to allow the user to select his own fonts, colors and page layout.

The repository which was mentioned earlier is not part of the original text but is connected to it. It can be filled with ideas and text that is not yet ready to be included in the real text document. Texts can be saved in text format only with the option to export markup – like bold or italic text – so that it can be viewed correctly in web browsers and word processors.

Another interesting feature is the progress bar which can be used to define a text length which is often required when writing journalistic texts or essays. The very same menu contains countless statistics about the text that has been written so far and a function called sprint writing which will limit the writing time. Both the text progress and the time limit can be displayed in the main interface.

The main problem that many writers will face is that the document can only be saved in text format which might require a few additional steps in another word processor to save the document in another format or to beautify it before publishing it or sending it in.

Write Monkey (via Tech Yard) is a portable application for the Windows operating system that requires the Microsoft .net Framework 2.0 or higher

Disabling sessions from Notepad++ should not have any impact on other software features like the tabbed interface. The option to disable sessions in Notepad++ can be found in the options of the software program.

A user opening Notepad++ can open the program’s options by selecting Settings from the main menu and Preferences from the submenu. The Preferences window is opening which is displaying several tabs and lots of options.

Locate the Misc tab of the Preferences menu and uncheck the “Remember the current session for next launch” box to disable the session feature in Notepad++.The user will only see the current document the next time Notepad++ is opened. New documents are still added in tabs during a session but once Notepad++ gets closed the information are erased.

It is more of a fun tool than a serious tool that the user would use on a daily basis. It is however well thought out and creates multi-colored texts speedily and perfectly. The tool is fully portable and can be executed from any location on the computer or external media.

The interface might look confusing at first glance because of the options and their placement but as I said earlier it is well thought out. The text can be entered or pasted in the top pane of the program. It does appear in the preview area as well immediately. The preview area reflects any changes made to the text in real time.

Colors are added in the lower half of the program interface. The interesting aspect is that a gradient is added to the text which can be altered by changing the colors of existing pegs or creating new pegs to add even more diversity.

Each color can be picked from a set of default colors or by using the whole color wheel which is just one click away. Each addition or change will have a direct impact on the text in the preview area. The user has a few choices like changing interpolation from the default cosine to flat or linear and to enable quantization. A color scheme can be saved to the computer so that the user can reuse it at a later time.

The two buttons Copy HTML and Copy BBCode copy the code to the clipboard from where it can be pasted into websites. The numbers behind both buttons are the chars that are used to create the effect.

Today the first beta version of Notepad++ 5.0 was released to the public on Sourceforge, more than 18 months after the release of Notepad++ 4.0. It offers further performance improvements over previous versions, bookmarked lines, different colored tabs, plugin commands in the context menu and additional options to configure the application.

The announcement lists 18 fixed bugs and features that have been added in Notepad++ 5.0, they are:

• 1. Improve Notepad++ performance – on startup and on exit.
• 2. Add Calltip capacity.
• 3. All the menu commands can be added in context menu, including plugins’ commands, macros and user defined commands.
• 4. Add bookmarked lines operations : delete all marked lines, copy all marked lines into clipboard, cut all marked lines into clipboard, paste from clipboard to replace all marked lines content.

• 10. Caret width and blink rate are customizable.
• 11. Add asterisk in title bar if file is dirty.

• 13. Add “Select all” and “copy” context menu items in Find in files results window.
• 14. Fix goto line with command line bug.
• 15. Improve smart highlight / mark all / incremental search highlight all visibility
• 16. Tabbar’s coulours is configurable via Stylers Configurator(Active tab Text, Inactive tab text, Inactive tab background, Active tab focused indicator and Active tab unfocused indicator).

What he obviously needs is a program that can find and replace text across multiple documents. Ideally it would be a software that would be easy to use and would require just a few clicks to achieve the desired results. One of the applications that can deliver a speedy way of replacing text across multiple documents is Text Crawler.

Ideally you only need to fill out the old and new text, the location of the documents and the type of documents that you want to change. Text Crawler scans all documents of that type for the phrase that you have entered and displays all occurrences in a list that contains the file name and location as well as the line in the document with the match.

The text is only replaced in files checked by the user. Some of the supported file types are txt, log, php, htm, css and ini. What I like is the option to create backup files before replacing the text in the documents and support for Regular Expressions. A great feature is the Regular Expression Tester that allows you to load a text file and test if the regular expression is replacing the text correctly.

The process itself is very fast, takes just a short time to replace the text in the selected documents.

Text Stat can be useful for quite a few users, let me give you one example. You can check out word repetitions with it easily. Say you are writing an article for a website and want to make it keyword rich, you do not want to add your main keyword to often, just often enough and use synonyms when the limit is reached.

You can check your text and get figures on how many times you have been using the main keyword. It still requires some quick calculation on your part about keyword density. If the figures are to high you simply exchange some of them with synonyms.

Another option would be to have a quick option to check if the text meets certain requirements such as a specific word count or amount of paragraphs.

The more flashy update is the ability to embed your GoogleDocs presentations into any webpage. It works much like the YouTube videos, where you can embed your own video, or even someone else’s if you copy-paste the embed link.

The technology looks and feels much the same, you can click on menu and you’ll find the embed link, along with a link to view the presentation in full glory on the Google Docs page. I think it still needs a bit of polishing, especially on the looks side, but at least they’re listening to their users. This may not be the most beautiful update, but it’s usable and works.

Steganos Locknote is a standalone program which does not have to be installed and adds itself to the encrypted text file to make it possible to decrypt the file without the main program. You either write text in the main window or drag and drop files with the .txt extension into it. Once you are done you provide a password (choose a secure one) and Steganos Locknote creates a executable which contains the information.

Decrypting the file could not be easier. Everyone who is clicking the executable has to provide the password that was chosen during the encryption. A correct password displays the contents, a wrong one of course nothing at all. The only aspect of the software that I do not like is the fact that it only encrypts text files. It does not support word documents for instance or images which would be a great plus.

Still it is small, free and easy to use. If you are like me and use text files to store important information you should give Steganos Locknote a try.
