Those are probably not the best selections, and most Firefox users likely miss that there are more search engines than Google pre-installed (as Google is set as the default search engine). Adding new search engines that might prove more useful can be easily done by going to the mozilla search engine page.

If you had to guess how many search engines the site lists, what would your guess be? It is likely that the number is lower than the 8000 or so search engines currently available for integration with the browser.

All search engines are categorized for easier access. Categories include Computer, Games, Reference, Dictionaries and Arts & Media. You can also access the top 10 searches on that site for popular search engines.

The question of course is, which should you add? I can’t answer that question for you but can name some that could be worth to add to your search engine list: Bing, Duck Duck Go, IMDB, Technorati or Wikipedia. Please note that you will find search engines for different languages there, so pay attention before you start adding a search engine that provides results in a language that you do not understand.

Update: It is time to take another look at what the Mycroft Project website has to offer. When you first open the homepage of the service you will notice that search at the top. You can use it to search for a specific search engine right away. If you want, you can filter results by category, country or language.

The top 10 search engines are listed right beneath. They include Facebook, YouTube and Baidu among other search engines that may already be included in the browser.

Below that is the category listing with hits thousands of search engines.
