href="http://weheartit.com/">We Heart It is a social bookmarking tool for pictures and videos, kinda a specialized version of Delicious that displays the images as thumbnails directly. The whole system is tags based which means that every user who adds images or videos should make sure to add at least one tag to his finding. The site can be explored by clicking on tags in the tag cloud or by clicking on a avatar to discover the findings of a specific user.

Every registered user can add tags to images and take a look at the users who have hearted the image already. A click on an image opens a detailed view of it that includes a link to the source and an opportunity to leave a comment. The thing that’s missing is definitely a site search. A user can only click on the popular tags but perform no search for a certain tag on his own.

The site is offering a bookmarklet that can be used to add images to We Heart It. The bookmarklet is working in Firefox and Opera but not Internet Explorer. It works by pressing it when you are on a page with an image that you want to add to the website. The I Heart It symbol appears next to the image and it is added by pressing it again.

<span

Paste all the ten links in an email or Instant Messenger and let him sort through the mess ? Or use a service like Linkbunch which bundles all your links into one and makes them available on a website ? You might say that it does not change a thing and probably even complicates matters because he actually has to make an additional click but it could still be useful for some.

I guess the best application for a service like Linkbunch is if you are restricted to a certain amount of characters. Twitter for instances comes to my mind or sending someone an SMS.

The principle is easy to grasp. Just add as many links as you want into the text field at Linkbunch and click on the Bunch button afterwards to create a random link pointing to that link collection. Take a look at one of the links that I have created to get an idea of the concept.

The links themselves are really short, always starting with http://linkbun.ch/ and random chars afterwards. The only thing that needs to be taken care of is that everyone may access those links by guessing the random chars. They seem to be using three chars for the links currently which means a very limited amount of possibilities.

How Webmasters use social sites to create a keyword monopoly

The Web

del.icio.us

digg

seo

social-bookmarking

webmasters
<guid

This common believe is wrong. Clever marketers have found ways to make their website appear in all of the search results on that page or at least in many of them.

We have two different approaches though. The first is to get a so called double ranking. If two pages of a website are on the same results page the lower ranking one gets moved just below the higher ranking one. If you have the number 1 spot the lower ranking one will get the number 2 spot even if it would only qualify for number 9 or 10.

That’s two spots of ten already. What happens if you submit a site to a social news or bookmarking website ? Right, it gets a new entry in the search engines that points to the original url that the marketer wants to promote. Many social sites like Digg have such a high standing at Google that their results are often seen in the top 10 or 20 if you search for a keyword.

There is another way that is currently possible. Google treats subdomains as if they were different domains. Marketers create keyword rich subdomains that are pushed in the search engines as well. So, even if you expect to see 10 different results the reality could be different.

Manage your Delicious Bookmarks locally

Browsing

Operating Systems

Software

The Web

Windows

bookmarks

del.icio.us

social-bookmarking
<guid

I was however never that fond of using it to store my own bookmarks but for the reason to promote my websites to a large audience. If I want a way to store bookmarks I rely on my browser and not a website that does that for me. Call me old fashioned but that’s how I think about this.

If you happen to use Delicious regularly you might find Netlicious [homepage, via Freeware Genius] very helpful. Users can use it to manage their delicious bookmarks locally which includes editing posts. The application requires the Microsoft .net framework so make sure you have that installed. Once that is out of the way you provide your Delicious username and password during the start of Netlicious.

All of the bookmarks of that Delicious profile are downloaded and displayed in a matter of seconds, very fast and nice. The left pane contains all the tags that have been used to describe bookmarks, the upper right pane contains the posts that are associated with the selected tag and the lower right pane contains a preview of the page.

The preview pane can be disabled if you do not need that one. The edit function is available after right-clicking a tag or a bookmark. If you right-click a tag you can change the name of the tag while a right-click on the bookmark makes it possible to edit the title, url, the tags, notes and private status.

Posts can be deleted as well or opened in the default browser of the system. One nice feature is the option to export the bookmarks either in html or xml format. If you save them in html format you gain a clickable list of all of your stored bookmarks. Could come handy.

Share, bookmark and e-mail links with Shareaholic

Browsing

Firefox

Online Services

firefox add-ons

firefox-extensions

mozilla

social news

social-bookmarking
<guid

All those sites offer toolbars and buttons for various browsers including Firefox, it’s just to much if you want to install all of them. Webmasters are looking for ways to submit their sites and articles to those sites with less effort.

Shareaholic is a Firefox extension that adds one button to Firefox that can be used to submit the current url to various social bookmarking and news websites like Digg, Delicious, Facebook and Stumbleupon. Users need to right-click their toolbar after installation and select customize from the menu.

A new window appears with buttons that can be added to the toolbars. Locate the Shareaholic button and drag and drop it into a place you are comfortable with. Once it is there it can be used.

The extension can be customized as well. You can add or remove sites. A total of 13 websites are available and seven are activated by default. So, if you would not use Tumblr you could remove that and add Twitter instead. Here is a list of all sites available:

Delicious
Digg
Facebook
Friendfeed
Google Bookmarks
Magnolia
Mixx
Reddit
Simpy
Stumbleupon
Truemors
Tumblr
Twitter

Pages can also be emailed using the Bzzster service. This requires a user account at that service though. Shareaholic has one more interesting feature that is worth noting, it’s called Community Links. This lists the latest links that Shareaholic users have submitted to the various websites. A nice way to discover new websites.

Fast Way to Submit articles to bookmarking sites

Browsing

Firefox

The Web

social news

social-bookmarking

socialmarker

webmasters

websites
<guid

A few hundred for sure. They are a great way to increase backlinks to your blog and drive some traffic to it as well. Submitting your articles to those bookmarking sites however is a painfully slow process. Visiting those sites one by one, logging in, filling out the submission form takes some time and it pretty boring and repetitive.

A new service named social marker tries to step in and offer webmasters a solution that get rid of the repetitive typing. Once at their website you have the choice to submit your story to 32 social news and bookmarking websites with the option to check the ones that you would like to submit it to or to select profiles such as news, social, best, all and none of the sites.

The submission works like the following. You fill in the most relevant information about your article once at Socialmarker, those are Title, Tags, Excerpt and URL and hit submit afterwards. Socialmarker will load the first website of the list. You do need to login there of course but can choose that this login is saved for further sessions.

At the bottom of the screen is a short bar with the information that you entered before starting the process. You can drag and drop those details into the appropriate fields of the submission form at the various bookmarking sites. Sometimes those forms are already filled out.

The navigation at the top lets you load the next website in the list once the submission is finished at the current site. This takes some time because you will have to log into all those sites during the first submission round.

The second and all subsequent submissions however are more speedy because you do not have to log into the selected sites again. It takes about six minutes to submit the article to all bookmarking sites listed at Socialmarker.

This depends on your line speed of course and how fast your drag and drop skills are.

Socialmarker is great for webmasters who submit articles regularly to social bookmarking sites. The only drawback is that it only works in Firefox.

Read More:

<a
