Was lots of fun back then. The 8-bit and 16-bit era, that fell in line with great systems such as Nintendo’s SNES and NES, Sega’s Mega Drive and the home computer systems C-64 and Amiga, was the golden age of shoot em ups. I still have fond memories of games like Blood Money, Lords of Thunder, Raiden, Thunderforce, M.U.S.H.A or R-Type.

G-Type, today’s Game Saturday game, is a R-Type clone. The game has been developed a long time ago, which you will notice for the first time when you try to change the resolution of the game. It launches in a 320×240 window. The highest resolution, only available in full screen mode is 640×480. Some might say that this makes the game unplayable on today’s high resolution monitor systems. I say, it plays just fine.

The game is divided into five stages which all scroll vertically, just like the original R-Type. You move your ship with the cursor keys, shoot with Ctrl and select one of the available extras with Shift. About the extras. Some enemies drop extra points on the screen. Collecting extras on the screen moves the extras bar forward by one. Extras range from speed upgrades to satellites and multi-way lasers.

Those extras are important, as you will have a very hard time beating the game if you do not pick them up to make your ship stronger. You will have to make some strategic decisions in the beginning. Will you go for speed upgrades and the satellites to protect your ship or the extra fire power that you get after collecting several extras?

If you are good, you will end up with all the extras that you can get. It needs to be noted that only one of the last three extras can be active at a time.

The game does not seem to be as difficulty as the original R-Type. That, or I have really improved my shoot em up skills in the past years. The game is fun to play, despite the mediocre graphic settings. Windows users who would like to play a fun shoot em up game can download the game right from our servers. The game ran fine on a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional installation. It should run fine on other Windows systems as well. <a

Games like R-Type, Blood Money or Apydia were lots of fun to play and hard to beat. MC2 Burning Skies is a well made Flash game that brings back the charm of those classic games. It is a sequel to Mechanical Commando 2.

MC2 Burning Skies is a top down vertical shooter. You control your vessel with the WASD or cursor keys. The primary weapon is shot with the left mouse button, the secondary with space.

You begin the game with a weak ship, which you will more than once notice during the first level. Chance is, you will play that level a few times before you beat it. Whenever you beat a level or fail, you get experience points. At certain stages, you get new equipment which you can then use to make your ship more powerful. It is not only about that though.

There are five types of improvements available: Primary and secondary weapons, armor, wings and special components.

Your ship has a maximum capacity which is defined by its wings. A rule of thumb is that a slower ship can pack more weapons and equipment on board than a faster one. It is basically the same for primary and secondary weapons. For armor, it is all about capacity.

The special components can improve experience, reduce capacity requirements or enable a hard core more where you get 50% more XP but die if one shot hits your ship.

The missions include the usual activities. Waves of different types of enemies that shoot at you, bigger vessels and bosses at the very end. You can hold down the left mouse button and space to shoot all the time, faster than you could possibly click. The secondary fire has a power bar, if it goes down completely you cannot fire the gun anymore and need to cool it of for a second or so before you can continue your firing spree.

The shoot em up game gets considerably easier once you get your first batch of new equipments. Better primary and secondary weapons help you out a lot, especially in the beginning.

Some enemies drop experience points and bonuses that you need to collect. You may get faster movement, a smartbomb or a power boost for your secondary weapon.

MC2 Burning Skies is not an easy game, but it is still a lot easier than most games that I have played on the C-64, Commodore Amiga, SNES or Sega Genesis.

Still, the game is well done with a little story line and solid presentations. I suggest you give it a try, and maybe you will get that “one more level” feeling when you play it, just as I did.

Weekend Fun Veck Special Edition

Entertainment

Games

arcade shooter

free-games

shoot-em-up

veck special edition

Veck is a classic shoot at everything on the screen type of games that seem to make an comeback with independent game developers lately. Enemies do not fire at your spaceship in the first levels at least so the only thing that you have to take care of besides shooting like a maniac is to avoid the kamikaze spaceships that try to ram into yours.

The controls are kinda fun. You can select keys for moving your spaceship around plus you can opt to use four different keys to use directional shooting as well. This means that you can fly in one direction and still shoot in another. This is essential in this game, believe me.

Veck Special Edition is a Windows game that is using only 1.7 megabytes of space.

Game for the weekend Ray-Hound

Entertainment

Games

arcade

freeware

game

ray hound

shoot-em-up

shooter
<guid

The numbers that spawn become more and more after time and it becomes increasingly difficulty to avoid the attacks of the other vessels.
