Miro is a very convenient media player that combines Internet media with local media. It offers one of the most sophisticated and easy to use interfaces. Users can integrate their audio and video files in Miro but the main advantage is the ability to subscribe to channels to download and watch their content in the player. It is pretty much like RSS feeds only that the content is not only text but also video and audio content.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of content channels to choose from the latest movie trailers to the most popular Youtube videos to Ubuntu guides. It is also possible to add feeds that you discover that are not already included in Miro. These feeds will be handled just like any other feed.

<span

Miro offers a built in Torrent client as well which makes it possible to download audio and video torrents to watch them in the interface as well.

Version 2.5 of Miro comes with some serious (that’s what the developers call it) speed and memory usage improvements. It can be downloaded from the nightlies downloads page.

Listen To RSS News Feeds

Online Services

pimp my news

podcasts

read news

rss audio

rss feeds

rss news feeds
<guid

The user can add up to ten feeds to his playlist which can then be turned into podcasts. Pimp My News provides two ways of subscribing to RSS news feeds. The first are packages, called FastPak at the website, which contain between 1 and 10 feeds that cater around specific interests like sports, art or technology. They make it simple and easy to subscribe to multiple RSS news feeds in short time.

The second option is to browse the categories that are available and handpick news feeds from the available options. Each category offers several categories that contain multiple feeds. The Technology category for instance contains Software, Internet and Apple subcategories that contain a handful of news feeds each.

It is unfortunately not possible to add RSS news feeds that are not in those lists which means for example that Ghacks cannot be subscribed to yet. The developers provide an email address where users can mail suggestions to though.

<span

The user can subscribe to these Podcasts, supported are iTunes but also any other software program where the user can subscribe to Podcasts (so called Podcatchers).

The quality of the recordings is fine. It is not the best and a computer is used to create the RSS audio but it is understandable. The podcasts can be copied to mp3 players like the iPod to listen to the news while on the go.
