Rapidshare is one of the biggest file hosters on the web and has a remarkably confusing interface and system that confuses many users at the same time. This could have been designed to be this way on purpose to up-sell premium accounts to users who do not want to wait before they can download a file from Rapidshare.

The process to search free file hosts for files is always the same and not dependent on the file host that you would like to search. While it is still possible to fire up Google and enter the search terms and site url manually it is far more convenient to automate the process.

Rapget is a sweat little freeware program that can be used to download multiple files at once from over 60 file hosts including Rapidshare.com, Megaupload.com, Yourfilehost.com and others. The real beauty of Rapget lies in the fact that it automatically bypasses the annoying captcha that is used on most websites to prevent access with download managers.

It is furthermore possible to add username and password of premium accounts if available which has to be done for several services unfortunately. I was not able to download files from rapidshare.com for instance without adding premium account details.

Rapidshare, one of the largest file hosters in the world, is currently under heavy fire in Germany. The Gema, which administers the copyrights of more than 60,000 members as well as those of over 1 million rights owners from all corners of the world managed to get a court ruling in their favor. The court ruled that the hoster could be held responsible for copyright violations committed by users who upload copyrighted material to Rapidshare servers. The court furthermore ruled that Rapidshare had to implement filters that would prevent further copyright violations.

Rapidshare is probably still the biggest file upload site on the internet. It is also one of the messiest and hard to work out sites that I came upon. There is no way to search for files hosted on Rapidshare.com itself. The only way that was known to me was to use a Google search exclusively for Rapidshare. (site:Rapidshare.com keywords) This is not an ideal situation, many links found by Google are already dead at Rapidshare and the overall process takes to much time.
