If you are a regular on Rapidshare you probably use a download manager to download files from Rapidshare that ensure good speeds and make it possible to download files from Rapidshare without having to use their website interface at all. Nothing beats adding lots of links to the download manager instead of having to sit at your pc all day waiting for the time limits to expire.

I was under the impression that courts are ruled by fact and reason but it becomes apparent that some judges are not able to cope with technology and the fast changing online world. A court order issued on January 23th by the District court of Dusseldorf, Germany ordered Rapidshare to take preemptive measures against copyright infringement. This does look nicely on paper but once you take a look at the practical implementation it is a (nearly) impossible task.

Bookmarklets are tiny Javascript codes that can be added to the Bookmarks and are then executed when the Bookmark is clicked. I found a nice bookmarklet that lets you search lots of free file hosters at once. All you need to do is to create a new bookmark and add the bookmarklet code as the location in Firefox | address in Opera.

Rapidshare.com the popular file hoster is currently unreachable if you use the url. Rumors began to spread like wildfire claiming that Rapidshare servers were taken down by court order, that the police seized Rapidshare servers which was the reason for the unavailability.

Rapidshare is a goldmine if you know how to search it properly. There are basically two ways to do that. First, you can use Google search parameters to search Rapidshare. Several websites offer a basic search interface that does nothing more than to add the parameters to your searches and display the Google search results. Then there is a different kind of website that has its own database and performs searches using it.
