Companies reserve the right to produce, ship and distribute their goods globally. Many produce in cheap labor countries like China, ship the goods around the globe to sell it high in countries like the United States or the European Union. It is natural to them because the process saves them lots of money. When customers try the same they usually reach artificial borders pretty soon. Some companies – like Sony – go even that far to forbid customers from one country or continent to purchase goods in another. Another example would be cheap mp3 and movie online stores in Russia and the Ukraine. Although perfectly legal in their country they are targets of the movie and music industry who do not want customers from other countries accessing the cheaper songs there.

There are other means to benefit from a global economy though, especially if you happen to live in a free trade zone like the European Union. Internet users have the power to compare product prices across several countries to save lots of money. What better way to prove this than to compare the prices of an online shop that is having stores in several countries. Take the German and British Amazon store as an example. Germans can buy in the British store and Brits can do the same in the German store without having to pay taxes or additional fees.

The decline of the British pound made it very attractive for citizens of countries that use the Euro as currency to purchase some of their goods in the UK. Here is a short list of goods that are both available in the UK and German Amazon store. Note: If you are French, Spanish or from any other country simply compare the prices with those local stores. All prices have been calculated in Euro using the latest currency exchange rates for better comparison.

Xbox 360 Elite Console (120 GB Hard Drive) – 211,80€ Amazon UK ; 299€ Amazon DE (-87,20€)
Sony PLAYSTATION 3 Console (80 GB Model) – 323,96€ Amazon UK (+1 extra game) ; 389€ Amazon DE (-65,04€)
Killzone 2 PS3 – 39,08€ Amazon UK ; 59,97€ Amazon DE (-20,89€)
Empire Total War PC Game – 26,76€ Amazon UK ; 44,95€ Amazon DE (-18,19€)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – 24,85€ Amazon UK ; 44,95 Amazon DE (-20,1€)

Not everything – but almost – is cheaper in the Amazon UK store. I have started buying all my gaming and DVD related purchases in the Amazon store. There are however a few things that people should consider. First of all, it might be necessary to buy a power converter for systems that require power. Not a huge problem as they tend to sell for a few bucks. Another aspect is the language. Many games and DVDs ship with several languages supported but this is not always the case. Not a huge problem if you speak and understand English but could be problematic for users who do not.

All items will be shipped by Amazon and there will be no additional taxes on the items. You usually have to pay for shipping and handling though which is a few Euros the most for items. This is one of the prime examples why it makes sense to look across the border to find the same goods for a cheaper price. Most customers from Euro currency countries will benefits from the prices in the Amazon UK store. There is unfortunately nothing comparable in the United States at the moment. If you purchase goods in Europe you will have to pay taxes and vice verse.

Do you have any additional tips on how to save money using the global economy to your advantage?

For those of you who are new to this, manga is basically the Japanese version of a comic book. Why should manga interest you? Well, for one thing, if you enjoy watching anime, you’d know that most anime series are adapted from their manga forms. This includes hits like Naruto and Bleach, amongst others.

The disadvantage of manga is that it’s not available everywhere. So, even if you wanted to buy your favorite manga, you might not be able to. What’s the solution? Simple! You can get your manga fix online, through One Manga.

One Manga is a site that functions as a manga library. There are innumerable high quality scans of manga issues. You can find entire volumes of series as well as obscure single issues that you might not get elsewhere. Besides scans, there are a couple of manga-based games you can play. Plus, there’s a store section as well where you can purchase manga issues you liked reading.

The site offers hours of entertainment, especially if you happen to be a fan of the manga genre. Even if you’re not, I’d still recommend checking the site out. It’s a different style from traditional comic books and the artwork on some of them is stunning. Go take a look and let me know what you think.

I did make two large purchases in the last two days. I finally ordered my new computer yesterday, or better the parts for the new computer, and cannot wait to build it once all the parts arrive at my home. Most of the hardware for the PC did not change since my last article about my plans to buy a new PC. A chat with my accountant had the result that I had to buy a more expensive computer to gain the full benefits from the state.

The new PC basically consists of an Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale cpu, a Gigabyte DS4 motherboard, 4 Gigabytes of DDR2-800 RAM, a Samsung Spinpoint 1 Terabyte hard drive and a Leadtek 8800 GTS video card with 512 Megabyte RAM. I did add some other stuff to the mix to break the 1000€ goal. My plans are to write an article about the building process with lots of pictures and details about the hardware.

The second purchase was a Xbox 360 Elite video game system. I never thought I would buy one but this offer was just to tempting. The German Amazon website is currently selling each Xbox 360 system, that is the arcade, normal and elite system with a free copy of GTA IV, a free HD DVD drive and a free 3 month XBOX Live GOLD membership. I did pay 374€ (about $600) for the complete set.

I first thought a normal arcade version would do it but I have hopes that I can eventually add XBMC to the XBOX so that it can replace my old Xbox as a media center. The package with the Xbox 360 Arcade sells for 200€ (roughly $320) currently. If you wanna take a look here is the link to Amazon Germany. Remember those are European prices, they are not comparable to US prices.

I probably will have to purchase a new television soon to gain the full benefit of the video gaming system. Any suggestions on a good LCD TV ?

If you do own a website you probably wondered about the value of it. With value I mean the amount of money that someone would be willing to pay for it. The following information could be very helpful if you need to sell your website, want to buy one or get approached by someone who offers money for your website. It actually happens quite often that webmasters receive mails from companies or individuals who want to buy their domain. Let us examine some factors that play a role in determine the value of a domain.

Several factors play an important role: The domain name, (unique) content, the age of the domain, the pagerank, visitors, pageviews, revenue, daily work and dominance in a certain niche. The value would then be determined by analyzing all factors which would then lead to the value of the website. If you want to just quickly calculate it and get only a rough estimate you can simply multiply the earnings with a figure between 6 and 24. That would be the revenue for the next 6 to 24 months. It depends on the site if you use a figure near 6 or 24. Proxy sites for instance normally receive only 6 or even less times the monthly revenue while sites that have earned solid revenue for years will most likely be closer to 12 or more months of revenue.

The revenue method is not always working that well of course. What if you want to buy or sell a website that never used ads on their pages, it would surely not sell for $0. The price for such a website depends on other factors, the most important ones in my opinion are: Content, Traffic, Daily Work, Pagerank and ways to monetize the site. Let us take a closer look at all of those factors:

Content: Content is important. Content not only describes the type of a website, for instance sports forum, technology blog, but also how unique the content is. Good unique content for instance raises the value of a website while copied content makes it drop. Who needs a website with a youtube video downloader script if there are thousands sites that offer such a script as well ?

Traffic: One important factor. How many unique visitors visit the website daily ? Where do they come from ? How long do they stay on the site ? Traffic that is coming from search engines is more valuable than most traffic from other sources. It is very easy to purchase thousands of unique visitors that push your stats but do nothing good for the site besides that. They come and go quickly.

Daily Work: A website that requires no work at all is better than one that requires many hours of daily work. The first one is better simply because it leaves more time for other websites or activities. Even if you can work 18 hours a day you will reach that limit pretty soon and that means you will have to make a decision to either sell a website, hire someone or reduce the daily work on another site.

Pagerank: Pagerank might not look important at first glance but is when you consider the possibilities of selling links on such a site. Pagerank begins to be important starting by a pagerank of 4. You can make hundreds of dollars each month by selling links on a pagerank 6+ website. It takes lots of good backlinks to get to pagerank 6+ but I still think it is worth it.

Ways to monetize: Some sites can be monetized pretty good while others pose serious problems. Forums for instance aren’t good money makers while blogs or product websites are. You can probably use a very conservative figure of $4 per 1000 impressions on most websites.

Selling text links would be another option which could be anywhere from $5 per month on a pagerank 4 site to $1000 on a pagerank 9 site. Many other ways to generate income exist. Sell direct advertisements, use affiliate systems (work best with product related sites of course), ask for donations, sell a product and use CPM systems for instance

Now, how do you determine a value of all those factors ? One way would be to take the ways to monetize the website plus the pagerank and calculate the possible revenue that you expect and multiply that with a figure between 6 and 12. I would probably use a figure closer to 6 and see how the owner reacts.

Unique content can push the price up quite a bit. If the website offers something that no other site offers you could have to pay for that as well. It is hard to determine the value of content though. Just expect a price close to 12 or even more times if the content is really unique and attracts the interest of a large number of visitors.
