If you set up some kind of SSH Connection on a windows computer over the past few years, be it to connect to the university’s network or to secure a line for an insecure FTP Transfer,you have probably encountered the program PuTTy on the way to salvation. It’s easy to use, free and OSSish powerful. What many people don’t know about PuTTy though, is what other powers aside from or better in addition to SSH slumber inside the little executable.

Picidae is offering a new method of accessing websites that are either blocked or censored in your country, including countries that are known for censoring the Internet such as China, Iran and many other countries. Instead of just supplying a proxy that is used to disguise the original url of the website that is blocked Picidae creates layers of the website displaying all clickable links as image maps in one layer.

I thought I compile all the latest changes and new features in one big announcement instead of writing a single article for each of them. I have added two features to ghacks which might be useful to some visitors at least. The first is that I enabled WAP access to ghacks which enables users with mobile devices to read the latest news right from their device.

The second new feature is a print function. It is not working correctly yet but I’m in contact with the author and the issue will be fixed soon. The print function which is available on all single articles pages makes it possible to print the content of the articles without the sidebars.
