It is apparently an Italian promotion, at least the website of it is in Italian. It’s however not that hard to fill out. Simply enter your first name, last name, email and verification code and select the product that you want to test for 180 days. BitDefender Antivirus 2008 is included in Internet security 2008 which again is part of Bitdefender Total security 2008.

If you want to test it all get the Total Security 2008 product. A comparison of the different products is available at the Bitdefender homepage. You can basically say that BitDefender Antivirus 2008 protects the computer from viruses, trojans, rootkits and the like. Bitdefender Internet security 2008 adds a Firewall, Phishing protection, access limits and network protections.

All of this is included in Bitdefender Total security 2008 with the addition of data backup possibilities, tune-up and clean-up functions. Just visit the promotional (via Techtrends) website and select the product that you want to test. The registration code will be send to the email that you enter in the form. The applications can be downloaded from the Bitdefender homepage directly.

This means that you get one year of free hosting and a domain name for roughly 15 Euros. That’s a pretty good deal I have to admit especially if you consider that you get 1 Gigabyte of space and unlimited traffic. I’m always a bit wary about offers that include unlimited traffic because it normally means that you do not have to worry about the traffic that your website causes unless you shoot the traffic through the roof. Every hoster will cancel the contract or ask you to upgrade in that situation.

MySQL and PHP is included so you got everything you need to setup your own blog or website. You get unlimited emails and ftp access as well. The countries the promotion is currently running are UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and India. Everyone else would pay the usual hosting fee which is currently between 1 and 2 Euros per month which is acceptable as well.

Not everyone can just walk in though and grab the copies, you need to register to be able to attend an event and even then kits will only be given out as long as supplies last. Events will also take place in other countries. A quick check revealed one event in Germany where attendees have to pay a fee to be able to attend the event. They still get the software kit with the newest versions of the applications though.

You have to give a company name and job title during registration. It is unclear if Microsoft will reject applications if they do not meet certain criteria. The first event is on February 27th in Los Angeles, the last on May 22nd in Reston.

Their decision to run this promotion was probably made easier by the fact that many students prefer to use Open Office. Students from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain with a valid email from their educational institutions are able take advantage of this offer.

The price of $59 is for United States students and it can be that it is different for the other countries. The Ultimate edition of Office 2007 contains all the usual Microsoft applications including the following:
