Windows does not automatically delete temporary files during system shutdown. This means that deleted files in the trashbin and temporary files like those in the Internet Cache are still accessible after a restart of the system. System cleaners like CCleaner or Disk Cleaner are able to delete those files but I would like to show a way how many of them can be deleted by using a Windows system tool.

XeroBank Browser, or xB Browser which was previously called Torpark, is a portable browser based on Firefox with security and privacy add-ons that can be run out of the box. I decided to uninstall the old CCleaner version that I had installed on my system and replace it with the first CCleaner 2.0 beta version which was released just a few days ago. The new CCleaner version was rebuild from scratch in C++ adding Windows Vista, 64-bit and portable support to this excellent software.

Not many Windows users now what the Custom Notifications are or where one could take a look at the elements hidden there. Microsoft describes Custom Notifications as the way in Windows to display active and urgent notifications. These icons show if you have new mail for instance.

I was just reading a long post by Steven Mansour on his website where he described how he tried to close down his account at Facebook. He still received numerous emails from Facebook after using the so called “Account deactivation” which made him wonder if his account was really gone from their system.

If you want to make sure that no one is able to eavesdrop on your mail traffic you should use encryption. The problem with most encryption services is that setting them up and talking others into setting them up as well is a problematic task. Encryption only works if both the sender and the recipient use the same service to encrypt the emails. One of the easiest ways to setup a service that encrypts your emails is the encryption software Ciphire. Ciphire is a program that is available for Windows, Linux and Mac and can be downloaded for free from the developers homepage.

Many sites have the requirement that you need to signup to access their content. I don’t want to talk about the positive and negative effects of forcing users to signup before they can access information on a website but I would like to point out that some websites use the signup process solely to gain a valid email address from the user which can be sold to questionable companies. A temporary email address on the other side is a way to be able to signup to those websites without revealing one of your private email addresses.

He received more than 5000 calls and text messages after uploading his video on Friday saying that he would be there for everyone who wanted to contact him.

David Cancel, the CEO of Compete Inc revealed at the Open Data 2007 conference that (some) ISPs are selling so called clickstream data of their users to marketing companies like Compete Inc. Clickstream data refers to the sequence of websites visited including the time that the sites were viewed. This is however not all the information that the companies receive. They surely analyze the user base of the ISPs that are selling the clickstream data which can be used to create complex marketing strategies for certain states or even regions in the United States.
