I have not really put much thought into the way podcasts work until now but when I stumbled upon Dir Caster I began to realize that publishing podcasts is different from publishing blog posts. I mean you have a mp3 file and need a way to create an RSS feed out of it.

It seems to me that Podcasts are popular amongst a certain (geeky) user group but ignored by the rest of the Internet. Honestly, when was the last time that you have listened to a Podcast ? I have to admit that I’m also not listening to Podcasts mainly because the lack of time but also because of the difficulty to find Podcasts that are interesting enough.

Youloud tries to make at least the second concern irrelevant. It lists a lot of Podcasts in their directory offering features, newest, most popular and top favorite Podcasts.

I do like podcasts. I listen mostly to music when I’m traveling but I sometimes have the urge to listen to podcasts and especially those that teach me something or cover subjects that I’m interested in. Podcasts are a great way of keeping up with the latest trends and technology on the internet in a time saving manner. I do not have to be near a computer and I can learn about new stuff while sitting in a car or train.

Many people are using RSS feeds and feel acustomed to them but shy away from podcasts. I’am not sure why this is the case but tools like Juice Receiver could close this obvious gap. Podcasts are like radio shows, the only difference that they are not broadcasted but available as downloads mostly in mp3 format. The variety of themes excells those of radio shows in my opinion although tech podcasts are more common than, lets say, podcasts for women.
