The article is then processed and a mp3 is created where a robotic voice will read the article for you. The voice is understandable but you recognize that it is not a human reading the article. If that does not bother you Pediaphon is a great application.

The Pediaphon website offers several options. You can either create a mp3 file directly from a keyword that you enter and either download the file or listen to it right from your browser. French, German and English Wikipedia articles can be converted to audio mp3 files.

The process of converting them is pretty fast, it took no more than a few seconds to create a ten minute mp3 from an article that I had selected. One problem that I experienced is that you have to specify a unique article. If you enter Gates for example you get the “Did you mean” page at Wikipedia which will be converted to mp3 then.

If you are in that situation you have to redefine the title to point to the correct Wikipedia page. Pediaphone offers WAP and Cell Phone access as well.
