The most effective method of doing this is to use PC software to monitor and maintain your PC’s health. There are many pieces of software that claim to be helpful, but not all of them are, and some are better than many others. This article discusses what PC software is most helpful for maintaining the health of your PC.

Probably one of the most important pieces of software you think about when looking to keep your PC healthy is anti-virus software. You have the option of purchasing top of the line software that will provide excellent protection, however unless you’re running a business where damage caused by a virus could be potentially expensive, there are many free anti-virus programs that provide great protection too. Avast! and Avira are two very well regarded anti-virus programs which, if you so desire, you can pay to receive even better protection with their premium versions. If you want even better protection it is recommended you download a spyware and adware removal program, the best ones quite unanimously being Spybot and Ad-Adawre, both free programs as well.

If your PC’s hard disk has Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (or S.M.A.R.T) you can enable it through your PC’s BIOS in order to monitor your hard disk by having it report on factors that affect your hard disk’s reliability. In order to see the results of this you need to download a free program called Active Disk Monitor, which can easily be found through Google or any other major search engine. Installing this will allow you to see the health of your hard disk so you will be able to anticipate failures so that you can purchase a new one and make appropriate backups before you lose all of you data.

Browsing the internet, running programs, deleting files and other typical activities on your PC causes many temporary files to be created on your PC. This can cause your computer to run slow and valuable hard disk space to be taken up. To remedy this there are two easy to use pieces of PC software that you can download and run for free. The first program is known as Clean-Up. Clean-Up will go through your computer and delete many of these unnecessary files and the best part is it works very fast and only requires the press of a button to run. The other program is called CCleaner. This program will also delete those unnecessary temporary files. It is best to run both of them so you can maximize the amount of files that are deleted. CCleaner also has another function though: it will clean up your registry. While having a registry with broken and useless keys doesn’t normally cause a big problem, it doesn’t hurt and sometimes if there are a large amount of problems it can cause problems. Also, to make sure you get rid of as many unnecessary files as possible you can also open up your internet browser, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer, and chose to clear the cache, delete cookies and other such things.

Obtaining PC software for maintenance can be a chore at first, but it is very important and in the long run can help yo

Desktop software

Software

desktop software

pc software

windows software

Desktop software has exploded on the scene with many different applications and uses. Some uses are for contacting and utilizing your desktop from areas away from your computer. Others assist in tasks that you’re involved with while ‘at’ your computer. It’s another example of how certain types of programs can change the way we use our computers.

In many applications the desktop software allows you to take advantage of more than one function at a time on your computer screen. Instead of only having ‘one’ display for a spreadsheet or a document, you can open them in smaller windows that ‘overlap’ your other windows programs and can be viewed at the same time in separate windows on the monitor.

From this point, you can arrange your work just like you would if you were working on an actual desktop. The convenience is fantastic. You no longer have the need to reload programs or reformat any of your data. It doesn’t mean that these programs don’t encounter any problems though.

Say you were using your desktop software and had a spreadsheet application open separately on your screen. By having it displayed in a smaller window, you’re dealing with a much smaller portion of the spreadsheet than you would be if you were using it as a full screen size display. But this is remedied by the software, as it allows you to zoom in to one certain window while it ‘hides’ the others until you choose to leave it.

The whole purpose behind the desktop software is to take that limited screen area and expand it and give the user a better viewing capability and much more functionality. It’s designed to help you do a better job of putting information together.

To understand it further, let’s look at your context. The software is about helping you to retain it. You can be in the middle of a document, and find you have need of an online calculator, or some information at another site. Without the ability to use more than one window at a time, you have to open another screen page, find your information, then come back to the original screen. But while you view your new information, the original information is gone, or hidden. You can lose your place or forget something you needed from the original, and have to go back and consult it by bringing it back up. You want the original to ‘follow’ you to the new information source.

Working on a basis of ‘interrupt’ is how we as humans work. We start our work, then have the need to interrupt it and grab something from somewhere else. With these desktop applications this can be a smooth experience. And in today’s computer world, there are many different types of desktop software becoming available, and each with some unique functions designed for specific types of uses.

Whether your type of desktop software is for contacting your computer from a remote location, or used to sync with Blackberry programs, or for integrating multiple applications and being able to move data between them, there’s surely a desktop software available to suit your needs.

Wikipedia Screensaver

Software

Windows

pc screensaver

pc software

screensaver

wikipedia screensaver

PC screensaver Analogy comes one that is more for the mind and less for the eye. And I do not want to get into the argument again if screensavers make any sense these days other than being visually pleasing or information providing. I’m not an expert on burn-ins. Just that much. According to Wikipedia only CRT and Plasma monitors are affected by burn-ins which is caused by the phosphor coating. The article points out that LCD monitors can only be affected by a usually not permanent form of image persistence.

The Wikipedia Screensaver displays random Wikipedia pages which are replaced in intervals that the user can define. The screensaver makes use of Internet Explorer to display the Wikipedia page in fullscreen on the monitor.

The screensaver can be configured to kill any application or processes that are still running on the system. The question about the usefulness of this screensaver has to be answered by every user individually. I personally cannot really see a reason to use the screensaver. It does not make much sense to display the pages when the user is sitting on the desk while they also do not make sense when the user is not that close to his desktop.

It could be useful to show others that you are a clever guy though. Let me know if you find some use for this screensaver. The screensaver requires the Microsoft .net Framework 1.1.

PC Decrapifier 2 released

Software

Windows

new pc

pc decrapifier

pc software

software programs

trialware

windows software
<guid

The applications range AOL Internet software to trial versions of Norton Antivirus and browser toolbars and have one thing in common: They are usually not wanted or needed. Getting rid of those installations manually will take some time depending on the level of “crap” that the PC manufacturer put on the computer’s hard drive.

The manufacturer receives good money from the companies so that they can put their trial versions on the computer.

And so the PC Decrapifier was born. The software program automatically scans a computer and gives the user the option to remove many of the applications that come preinstalled with the computer. The software program is easy to use. href="http://www.eterlab.com/eyedefender/">Eye Defender was designed to prevent the Computer Vision Syndrome which can have all kinds of ill effects on the human body including eyestrain, blurred vision, delayed focusing, headaches, back and neck aches, dry and burning eyes, light sensitivity, distorted color vision, forehead heaviness, and sore eyes.

That is quite a few symptoms and better to be avoided. Eye Defender helps by reminding the user to take regular computer breaks. The software sits quietly in the system task for most of the time but becomes active every 45 minutes by default.

It’s up to the user on how he is reminded of the break, he has four choices that are offered by the program: Display a picture, run the screensaver, display a popup reminder or run the visual training that relaxes the eyes.

The break interval can be changed between 1 to 999 minutes but the default values are 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes and it is recommended to choose one of them. The break duration can be defined as well.

The most interesting break reminder is the visual training that displays various symbols and figures on the screen to relax the eyes.

Eye Defender runs on most Microsoft operating systems from Windows 98 to Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Switch Between Different Service Profiles

Software

Windows

pc software

service profiles

windows services

windows-xp
<guid

The only way would be to enable or disable all services manually which would be quite a lot of work. Service Profiles was an entry to the Donation Coder programming competition and it rightfully got a price there.

The PC Software, which comes in a 32-bit, 64-bit and Source Code edition for Windows XP, provides an easy to use interface to create Service Profiles. Let me explain where that could be useful: You might want to use a “fast” configuration to maximize system resources for an application, you also might want to create on profile to download and install updates from Microsoft and probably a third that uses all the services that you need in your daily routine.

The PC software asks you to create a backup of the current state which I would highly recommend. The main program interface displays the services with various information, a description pane and one that will contain the various profiles.

<img

All the other services will be taken from the default profile and remain as is unless you change them as well.

The “play” button will activate a selected Services profile. The application developer has included sample profiles taken from Black Viper’s service configuration website which can be applied to the application as well.

Upload Multiple Files to Online File Storage Sites

Software

Windows

depositfile

file storage

file uploader

megaupload

pc software

rapidshare

yousendit
<guid

The software program File Uploader brings that and a bit more to Windows. The PC Software provides an easy to use interface to queue files and upload them to various file storage sites like Rapidshare, Yousendit or Depositfiles.

Multiple File Storage sites can be selected from the list which contains currently 32 different websites. Several test uploads to those File Storage sites revealed that several of them are not working correctly currently. An error message is displayed when that is happening.

A Successful upload to a file storage sites on the other hand writes an upload log which contains the links to the files uploaded. The software provides four options that can be checked, for instance to protect links by automatically using lix.in for it or to retry failed downloads.

<span

The greatest benefit of File Uploader is that it is easy to use. It only takes a matter of seconds to start uploading to various file storage sites. Bad is that several sites are not working properly currently and that the files have to be uploaded to each file storage site separately.
