Auto logon should not be configured if more than one user is working with a computer or if the computer is part of a local area network. A PC that is only used by one user could be configured to automatically log that user in when he boots his computer. I have auto logon enabled in Windows XP and really enjoy the faster boot speed.
Disable the Windows XP Guest account correctly
The Windows XP guest account is not only used to allow guests to login to Windows XP but also to authenticate the computer in peer to peer networks. Disabling the XP guest account is therefor only advised if you do not use file sharing, printer sharing or Internet connection sharing. Please note that file sharing refers to the build in Windows XP functionality and not applications like Bittorrent or Emule.
Microsoft Security Release ISO Images
Microsoft is releasing a monthly Security Release Iso image which contains the security releases of that month packed on one Iso image. The benefit of this approach is not really obvious for home computers running just one version of an operating system by Microsoft but for networks with lots of installed operating systems.
Microsoft releases critical IE and Outlock Patches
If you are still using Microsoft Internet Explorer or Outlook you should immediatly start your Windows Update Service and download and install the latest patches for those two programs that Microsoft released yesterday to the public. The Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary for April, 2006 lists three critical, one important and one moderate vulnerability that have been fixed with the new patch.
