Several Manga community exist on today’s Internet that offer access to Manga scans online, some even with the option to download the manga books to the local computer system.

We have reviewed several programs in the past that add better options to read and download mangas from the Internet. This includes the One Manga Reader, Manga Meeya or the Manga Downloader.

We have also been criticized in the past for reviewing these applications, largely because the programs and extensions offer means to download Mangas, which may not be legal depending on the downloader’s jurisdiction.

Still, we are a technology news site that reviews software, not lawyers that can determine whether or not the use of a software is illegal in one of the world’s 200 or so countries.

Manga Crawler is a free software program that acts purely as a downloader. It is compatible with several Manga websites, including OneManga, 1000Manga, MangaShare or MangaRun.

The application displays all compatible servers in the left column. Selecting one of the servers will pull the available Manga series from it.

These series are then displayed in the second column. The selection of a Manga in the second column pulls the available chapters from the site’s server.

Selecting one or multiple volumes, and clicking on the download button will download all pages of the selected Mangas.

It is furthermore possible to click on the Visit page button to read the Manga on the original website.

The Downloading tab displays the download queue and a log that lists errors and download paged.

Manga Crawler is an easy to use portable software, it does not take more than a few clicks to start reading or downloading the selected Manga.

The program had difficulties downloading information from some Manga servers, trying again at a later time resolved some of the issues.

Between ten and twenty new Mangas are added everyday to the website making it one of the most frequented websites for Manga lovers.

It hosts many of the most popular Manga series from Naruto and Bleach over One Piece and Fairy Tail to Full Metal Alchemist, Hunter X Hunter and Kenichi.

Users can visit the website to find out what’s new, subscribe to an RSS feed or use the recently reviewed Google Chrome extension Manga Lover which displays the latest releases directly in the web browser.

One Manga Reader is an alternative to the options described above. What does it do? For starters, it displays a list of all Manga series that are hosted on One Manga. That alone is not that spectacular but the following options are.

One Manga will add all Mangas that are read by the user to the reading list. The reading list will keep track of the latest chapter that has been read by the user and display the latest published chapter as well as links to all chapters of the Manga that are hosted on One Manga.

The extension provides a few options that can be configured in the Chrome extension manager. It is possible to remove ads from the One Manga website, display the Manga on one page instead of only a sheet per page ordisplay two sheets which is helpful for widescreen monitor users.

The software program is well maintained and supports downloading from various popular manga resources on the Internet including One Manga, Manga Fox and other popular sites.

The software displays the available manga resource sites and the mangas that they offer in the left sidebar. Each manga is displayed with the available issues that can be downloaded next to it. A search is provided as well which is usually recommended to use as the listings can be very long.

The websites hosts nearly every manga there is from more than 500 issues of One Piece, 400 of Bleach or Naruto to rare ones with only a few issues. Chance is you find the manga series you are looking for in the listing of available series.

A double-click on any manga listed will display details about the selected manga with a short description and information about the author, artist, status and categories. The list of chapters that are available for download can be moved to the download section. The free version of the downloader can only download directly to the local hard drive.

Users who buy the software can also make use of a queue to queue all downloads before starting them. The different manga resources that are supported do support different mangas and it is common that some mangas are not available in all resources. It is therefor a good idea to look through all available sites if a series cannot be located immediately.

DomDomSoft Manga Downloader is an excellent program for the windows operating system. It does require the Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 but does not need to be installed on the target computer system.

That’s where the One Manga Full Chapter userscript steps in. It automatically loads all pages of a selected chapter so that one chapter can be read without having to load additional pages in the web browser.

All it takes to read a chapter is to scroll down as the userscript appends all pages to the current one automatically.

The userscript provides access to a handful of additional options including the ability to bookmark a page to continue reading at a later time, a chapter browser to quickly read a different chapter, advanced manga list filters and the option to hide or display the navigational elements.

The userscript is available for both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome 4 and can be downloaded from the official userscript website. Users who prefer to download and read the mangas can take a closer look at the manga reader MangaMeeya.

MangaMeeya is a very sophisticated Manga reader for the Windows operating system that is offered in an English and Chinese version. The software can display Mangas in single files, folders and even those that are posted online making it a universal reader. Several image formats (BMP, PNG, GIF, JPG) are accepted as well as archives like RAR, ZIP, CBZ, CBR.

The Manga reader can display one or two pages of the Manga in its interface and supports a variety of scaling and quality options. The Manga itself can be read by clicking the left or right mouse button (for and backward), using the controls at the bottom of the screen, running a slideshow or using keyboard shortcuts.

All of the operations in the reader from opening Mangas to browsing them are very fast. The reading direction is from right to left. MangaMeeya is a portable software program that many consider the best Manga reader out there. Users who spend some time using the software notice that there is a lot to explore like different view modes, scaling and filtering options, bookmarks, sort order or a huge list of options.

MangaMeeya can be downloaded from the developer’s website where it is available in English and Chinese.

The process reminds of the Mii creation on the Nintendo Wii. The user picks a gender for his avatar and can then customize various facial features like the hair, eyes and nose. Nintendo Wii users should experience no difficulties creating the avatars and everyone else won’t run into a lot either.

It’s pretty much about picking the right facial feature and color to go along with the avatar. Face, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Ears and Hairs are the six main parts of the face that can be changed. Most containing subcategories; Eyes are for instance further divided into Shape and Eyebrows.

Add clothes, stuff and background to that and the opportunity to add makeup to the avatar. Want your avatar to wear a tie, a peace logo, tattoo and piercing? No problem. The avatars are send to an email address that has to be entered with some additional data. It’s probably a way of collecting emails and I would advise to use an email account that does not receive private emails for that. It has to be able to receive attachments so most disposable email services are out of the question.

The disadvantage of manga is that it’s not available everywhere. So, even if you wanted to buy your favorite manga, you might not be able to. What’s the solution? Simple! You can get your manga fix online, through One Manga.

One Manga is a site that functions as a manga library. There are innumerable high quality scans of manga issues. You can find entire volumes of series as well as obscure single issues that you might not get elsewhere. Besides scans, there are a couple of manga-based games you can play. Plus, there’s a store section as well where you can purchase manga issues you liked reading.

The site offers hours of entertainment, especially if you happen to be a fan of the manga genre. Even if you’re not, I’d still recommend checking the site out.
