The books and magazines can be viewed online but there is no way to make the contents available offline easily. It is possible to save the whole page to the local computer but that would mean that it is available in html format with an extra folder for additional elements which is not really handy.

A better alternative would be the software program Google Books Downloader which can be used to download parts or entire books in pdf format. The process requires some manual work on part of the user. Books and magazines are identified by an unique ID which is displayed in the address bar. That unique ID has to be copied and pasted into the software. Everything else is done automatically by the software. The program will scan all pages of the selected book or magazine and display all pages in its interface.

Each page can be selected for download separately which is useful if only selected parts of the book or magazine should be downloaded. The other option available is to download the full book or magazine right away to the local computer.

Only the scanned magazine or book pages are downloaded and included in the pdf document. The size of the pdf document depends on the number of pages of the book or magazine. Google Books Downloader provides an excellent way of downloading books and magazines from Google easily.

My motivation to post these is two-fold. I think that you can grab some very nice magazines and other informational products for free which is always great. US professionals usually get those in paper version send to their homes while international professionals get a digital version. I’m also getting paid for every subscription but I would not do it if this would not be totally clean and safe. Enjoy the magazines.

Still I know lots of people who read magazines, lots of them, on a regular basis. Women really seem to like those women magazines that talk about diets, fashion and celebrities.

If you like magazines you will love the Mygazines website. I first was not sure what to expect from that website until I opened a test magazine only to find out that it was the full version of the magazine in good quality.

With Mygazines users get free access to a large collection of popular magazines. If you check the Computers & Internets category you find many well known publications like PC World, Macworld or PC Gamer but there are other categories like Women’s Interests and Childrens & Teens that cater to different audiences.

If you take a closer look at the games subcategory you find the August 2008 issues of many popular game magazines. Not only PC Gamer but also Game Informer, GamePro, Electronic Gaming Monthly, DPad and Total PC Gaming, some even with backissues.

You find so many magazines at that website that you could probably waste a whole month just reading all the currently available ones only to start over at the beginning of next month with the new issues being published there.

Did I mention that it is completely free and that everyone, including guests, can view all magazines on that website ?

The website makes use of a family filter that hides adult content from guests. Only registered users can disable the adult filter to view magazines suited for adults only. For the sake of this article I registered at the website and turned the family filter off to find lots of men’s magazines in the men’s interest category: Penthouse, High Society and Voluptuous to name a few.

Far more interesting is the option to receive notifications when a new magazine is published. The user can select a category, subcategory, keywords or magazine titles plus some additional information like a date range.

I’m not sure how long this site will be up but it is definitely amazing.

Still, there is no catch and if you are eligible you get them for free.

A few weeks ago there was a promotion to obtain a free one year subscription for the paper version of the US PC Magazine. No catch again. You can take a look at the frontpage of the store if you are interested in non-IT related stuff, a lot of categories are available there from various industries including finance, food, travel and energy.

Some magazines are only available in certain regions, some require additional criteria to be fulfilled. The Website Magazine subscription for instance requires that the subscriber must have an active website. So, everything is reasonable, just make sure you read everything thoroughly.
