It is an excellent first choice to listen to music from a specific artist or to listen to songs that were recommended to you. Yes, there are other options like the popular music website Last.fm but Youtube is a bit easier to handle in our opinion.

If you listen to music on Youtube you might sometimes be interested in the lyrics. Sometimes the uploaders include the lyrics but more often than not they do not.

The Google Chrome extension YouTube Music Video Lyrics displays music lyrics directly on the page so that it is not necessary to open another tab in your web browser to find the lyrics.

The extension works automatically. It tries to find the lyrics for the active Youtube video. The icon in the Chrome toolbar changes to indicate that lyrics have been found.

A click on the icon displays the lyrics so that they can be read while listing to the music video.

youtube music video lyrics

The extension was able to identify the song name correctly most of the time so that the right lyrics were displayed. It sometimes happened that the wrong lyrics were displayed.

YouTube Music Video Lyrics unfortunately has no option to perform a manual search for the right lyrics in this case. It is nevertheless a very handy, unobtrusive extension that should be beneficial to many Youtube visitors.

Chrome users can head over to the Google Chrome extensions gallery to install <a

Compatibility seems to have been of utmost importance to the developers of the software. AutoLyrix is able to detect songs in dozen of music players including Winamp, iTunes, Windows Media Player, Last.fm, XMPlay, AIMP2, Screamer Radio and provides a way to make it compatible with practically any player that is not supported.

The software will automatically search the Internet for information about the current song and display the album art and lyrics in two independent windows. It is possible to refine the search if the first hit did not display the correct items. It can happen that the lyrics are not the only information displayed as the software uses an auto parser to parse the contents.

This can be fixed easily however by simply removing the unnecessary information. Results can be saved so that only those information will be displayed the next time the song is being played on the computer system.

<span

There is naturally also a way to save the discovered album art and lyrics to the music to make it permanently available.

Lyrics for Youtube Videos

Browsing

Firefox

Music and Video

greasemonkey

lyrics

music videos

youtube
<guid

It does not really matter if you are looking for the latest Billboard charts videos or videos from the Seventies, they are all available on Youtube. One thing that is missing though are lyrics for those music videos. While some uploaders add the lyrics in the description most do not add them.

Youtube Lyrics changes that. It’s a Greasemonkey script that adds a lyric element to each Youtube video. A container Lyrics will be displayed beneath the Video description and will show the lyrics of that music video if expanded. The title of the video should at least contain the song title of the song.

A drop down menu provides access to different lyrics databases on the Internet and you can try to find the lyrics in the other databases if the default one does not reveal any results.

Canto Pod is a freeware application for Windows that makes it easy to add lyrics to most songs that you have on your iPod.

It automatically detects the drive letter that the iPod is connected to and requires a first name, last name and email address at first start. Canto Pod starts afterwards and you can click on Songs on iPod to retrieve all songs that are currently stored on your iPod. You may then select up to 15 songs and download them to your iPod. I guess the 15 lyrics at once limit is to ensure that the server does not get bombed with hundreds of requests at once.

Lyrics can be stored in three different locations on your iPod. Notes, Contact or mp3 lyrics tag. Only iPods of the newest generation (nano and video) support the feature that the lyrics are displayed directly. It takes a little bit to download lyrics and it is rather uncomfortable that you have to select the songs that you want to download lyrics from by yourself.

If I would do it for all of my songs on my iPod Nano it would take more than 500 clicks to select all songs (no select next 15, select all, download consecutively) which will hopefully be added to Canto Pod in a future release. There is also no information whether lyrics have been downloaded successfully or not.

Update: The latest version of Canto Pod is provided for Windows and Mac operating systems. The service uses the Song Meanings database for its lyrics service.

The new version of the software is more user friendly than the old one. It is therefor recommended to update it immediately.
