The software is called iWatchSyncer and its main purpose is to monitor a folder on the local hard drive for new music to synchronize it with the iTunes software. The software has been designed to be foolproof. All the user needs to do is to pick a folder on the computer system that should be monitored for new music files.

The only other available option is to select a playlist to be created or extended with the music that is found in the monitored directory. This is an optional step though and not required for the music import to work properly. The software will check the folder for new music periodically and add it automatically to iTunes whenever new music is discovered in that folder on the drive. It looks like the interval is set to 1 minute as music that is moved to the folder gets quickly added to iTunes all the time.

The program has to be running in the background for this to work properly. It uses quite some computer memory (34 Megabytes on a Windows XP test system) which might make it to memory hungry for some computer systems. Could be worth a try for users who regularly add music to a specific folder and its subfolders on a computer system though. The music does get added to iTunes regularly as well.

The software syncs iTunes with mp3 players other than iPods. I’m still not sure why users would want to use iTunes but I suppose it has something to do with the ability to buy music and videos there.

The new version is now available in three languages which are German, English and Spanish. Other changes include reduced memory usage, proxy support, support for the three file extensions wma, wmv and asf, new folder structures and better handling of duplicate playlists.

Itunes Sync should work with most mp3 players on the market, the developer obviously has no way of testing his software with all players available. Some users send in information regarding compatibility with their mp3 player but I suggest you simply try it out and see if iTunes Sync works with your player.

The software has a size of only 450 Kilobyte and requires the Microsoft .net framwork 2.0

The biggest drawback in my opinion is that iTunes was designed to only work with iPods and not other mp3 players from different manufacturers. I personally think that it is a bit way of to install iTunes if you do not own an iPod but apparently some users are doing it.

And one of them decided to write a program called iTunes Sync that would sync the playlists in iTunes with a lot of mp3 players from different manufacturers such as Creative Labs, iRiver and Sandisk. Not all players are working yet but the author is trying hard to implement support for them in future versions.

The software requires only three steps to sync your mp3 player with iTunes. They are:

      Setup a playlist in iTunes that you want to sync to your MP3 player
      Configure your MP3 player in iTunes Sync by giving it a name, selecting an “identification file or folder� and selecting a playlist from iTunes
      Now just click Synchronize and watch the magic happen!
