Why should I pay 9,99$ for a movie download that most likely will be crippled with DRM and come without DVD cover and booklet. Some services disallow that you burn more than one DVD from the download or make it impossible to play the movie that you burned on DVD on standalone DVD players.

The single advantage that I was able to identify is that you do not have to leave your home to buy the movie and that you do not have to wait that it is send to you. Download and go, that is the advantage; Back to iTunes.

Apple will start sellings movies on iTunes starting this September, the prices for a new movie (download) will be 14,99$ and for older movies 9,99$. I’am surely not the only one who thinks that those prices are way oversized for downloads. Besides the initial cost of 14,99$ or 9,99$ you also have to pay for your bandwidth to download the movie and for a blank DVD plus printing a cover.

So, who will use this service ? I guess with all the iPod hype many people will use the service even though it seems overpriced. Heck, some purchase single episodes of tv series for 1,99$ at the iTunes store instead of buying the complete season for a margin of the price.

The conclusion is that it will be used, that people will like it, especially those who are already using iTunes for music and tv series downloads. A great advantage for Apple is that those already have the software installed to make the movie purchases. No new software needs to be installed, no need to sign up again to a service. It is all there.

Take a look at the poll that I will create in a second, it asks for the maximum amount of money that you would be wiling to spend for DVD downloads.
