Accessibility while working on the PC, less ads and talking while songs are playing, and better recording possibilities (see our StreamWriter review for an excellent program that can be used for that purpose.

I usually use desktop media players like AIMP3 to listen to Internet Radio stations, as it is a lot more comfortable than having to keep a streaming page open all the time in the web browser. That’s especially true if you have to restart the browser every now and then.

Radio Player Live is an excellent Chrome extension that offers a great radio listening experience for Chrome users. First time users need to add at least one station to the extension before they start accessing the selected stations via the extension’s Chrome address bar button.

This is done on the extension’s page. A click on Add radio stations lists all the available options. Users can add a station from the gallery listing maintained by the extension developers, add stations from popular sites such as the Shoutcast directory or Digitally Imported, or add stations manually.

All stations from the gallery can be added with a single click of the mouse button. They list many terrestrial stations, like RTL and RTL2, Virgin Radio, BBC 1 to BBC 6 or .977.

Third party stations lead to websites from where the stations need to be added. The extension adds buttons next to each station on those sites which can be used to add the selected radio station to the extension.

A click on the Radio Player Live button loads an overlay prompt to add the selected station to the radio player. The station’s name, website, logo and category can be customized here.

<img

Stations can be sorted into categories for easier identification. You can do that when you add a station, or later on under Manage my stations in the program options.

Users who do not like the theme can modify it extensively in the options. From background and header text colors to borders, category names and srollbars. Nearly every visual aspect can be modified.

The player window itself displays a list of radio stations, the currently playing station, the volume, and pause and stop options. You can switch to another radio station with a click.

The program supports VLC and Windows Media Player plugins, but I was not able to get those to work in the Chrome browser. It is not clear from the description whether they are used to play the radio stations in the browser, or if the music is redirected to the desktop player from where they are then played.

Google Chrome users who like to listen to Internet radio while surfing should take a closer look at Radio Player Live.

Mentor FM Tunes Into Your Facebook Account To Play Music You Like

Music and Video

internet-radio

music
<guid

The Internet radio tunes into your Facebook account to play music that you like. The awesome part is that it usually gets things pretty right in this regard. All you need to do is to give the app permissions to connect to your Facebook account before you can start listening to a playlist that has been specifically made for you.

The scary part is actually what makes the application that good: Facebook seems to know your music taste pretty well. The application displays up and down vote buttons on the radio page that you can use to further finetune the music listening experience.

Basic playback controls are displayed on the page as well. Here you can change the volume of the music, pause, stop and play songs or skip ahead to the next song if you do not really like the one that is currently playing.

Mentor.fm displays the artist or band, and the genre of the music on the page as well. It feels rather strange that the name of the song is not among the information displayed there.

If the playlist is not what you are looking for, you can let the radio station load a new playlist with different songs.

The surprise me mode finally lets you look beyond your music taste to discover a different kind of music. When I first used surprise me the radio started to play songs from artists such as Emilio Santiago, Jazzkantine or Renata Tebaldi, music that I would not listen to at all otherwise.

The site is a music experiment, that will be online for about 2 months before the makers will take it offline again. One of the interesting aspects of the site is that you can just turn on the radio and start listening, without having to perform searches or songs first. The service uses a user’s likes on Facebook and generates the playlist from those information. (via <a

All it takes to tune into a radio station is to open the .pls file in a compatible player. Whenever I try to load a playlist file on my system Windows makes the suggestion to use Windows Media Player to play the file.

The only problem here is that Windows Media Player is not supporting the pls file format. Users who try it anyway receive the following error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Open PLS in WMP is a free software program for the Windows operating system that acts as a proxy between the pls file and Microsoft’s media player. Download the program from the Internet’s Codeplex project page first. The program has not been updated for three years now but it still works perfectly even with the latest Microsoft operating system and windows Media Player.

Installation should be straightforward and pose no troubles whatsoever. What you need to do afterwards is to assign the .pls file format with the newly installed Open PLS in WMP application. You do that by right-clicking a pls file on the system and selecting Properties from the context menu.

Click on the change button, navigate to the Open PLS in WMP folder (defaults to the program files folder) and select the executable there.

You can alternatively start a playlist file directly on an Internet page, but only if Windows displays a file open dialog which leads to the process described above.

All pls files in Windows are from that moment on opened with Open PLS in WMP. The program extracts the stream information from the files and sends the information to Windows Media Player where the stream is then played like other music.

You may see a warning message about AAC streams when you load streams. I’m not entirely sure why it is displayed, it did not hinder playback of the playlist files that I tried. Just close the message and Windows Media Player should start playing pls files.

Download Pandora Radio To Your PC

Software

Windows

internet-radio

pandora

portable software

record internet radio

windows software

international access. Before that, I published two guides on saving Pandora music. That was back in 2006; Five years later and the situation has not changed a lot. Pandora is still only available for US Internet users and those who use virtual private networks (vpns) or web proxies to bypass the country IP limitation.

The two guides published in 2006 are obsolete now. They are both about software programs that are no longer available. This guide takes a look at a new and at the time of writing working method of downloading Pandora Radio to the PC. Even better, it uses a freeware application for that.

Head over to the Nirsoft website and download Video Cache View. Don’t let the name irritate you, it supports audio as well. The program basically scans web browser caches for media files and displays all files it finds in its interface.

The portable software scans for all media file formats in all browser caches. That may be a bit much and the first thing that we need to do after starting Video Cache View is to restrict the listing to audio. Click on Options in the menu and remove the checkmark next to show video files.

Now head over to the Pandora website and tune into a radio station there. I suggest you pick one of the top streams that are listed on the start page while testing. Make sure the radio streams music to your computer. When it does, switch back to Video Cache View and either wait until the program refreshes the listing automatically, or click on the refresh button manually to see the song that is now playing in the listing.

Chance is, you see multiple audio files in the listing. Use the following indicators to locate the correct one that Pandora sent to your computer. You can first sort by browser to limit the display. The file size should be more than 1 Megabyte and less than 5 Megabytes. The Pandora Radio music files usually show up as .tmp files without content type and download url. A right-click on a file and the selection of Play opens the file in the default media player on the system.

Once you have identified the song that is playing right now right-click it again and select the Copy selected files to option from the context menu.

Please note that cached music files are removed from the cache automatically when the song stops. This means that you need to save the Pandora song while it is playing. You will always download the full song though no matter when you start the downloading.

Is there an easier way to download Pandora Radio music to the computer? Probably. It would for instance be nice if the identification and download could be automated, or if the cached files would not be deleted right away after the music stops playing.

Know of a different way to rip Pandora streams? Let me know in the comments.

StreamWriter 3 Released, Internet Radio Stream Recording Software

Software

Windows

internet-radio

portable software

record internet radio

streamwriter

windows software
<guid

While I cannot vouch that recording the music is legal in all countries of the world, I know that it is in many.

And instead of just recording one stream and thus one song at a time, you can use specialized programs like StreamWriter to download music from multiple stations at the same time.

StreamWriter has just been released in version 3. The multi-stream recorder is one of the most comfortable programs to record radio streams from the Internet. The program has come a long way since its first release which we reviewed in 2010 here on Ghacks.

The program’s core functionality was available back then as well. You could use it to record multiple radio stations at the same time and cut songs in the program, for instance to remove advertisement or moderators.

New features were added over time, like scheduled recordings to never miss your favorite radio show again or a wishlist of songs that get recorded when the songs are playing on one of the monitored radio stations.

StreamWriter 3.0 now improves the program further. The version is a culmination of previously released fixes and several new features, among them the ability to add already recorded songs to the ignore list to avoid recording them a second time, or the new per-stream ignore list.

Radio stations can be added via the playlist / stream url form directly, or from the radio station browser. Everything is well thought out and comfortable to use. To record radio, you simply double-click a station in the list. Everything else is handled automatically by the software. Back then I tested the recording capabilities and stopped at 15 simultaneous recordings. There does not seem to be a hard limit though.

The new version of StreamWriter improves the program further, making it one of the best, if not the best, applications for recording Internet radio on the PC.

The new version of StreamWriter can be downloaded from the official project website. It is available as a portable version and installer. You may also want to check out my <a

Tools for the job have evolved a lot over past years, from command line applications to powerful programs that can record dozens of Internet radio stations at the same time.

StreamWriter is such an application. The program has a lot to offer: It can record music from multiple streams at the same time. Even better, it comes with a built-in auto-updating list of Internet radio stations that you just need to click on to start recording.

You are only limited by the available bandwidth and your computer’s processing powers. I had no problems recording ten different radio stations at once on my system.

Here is how it works in detail. You can copy and paste a playlist or stream url into the form at the top or use the radio station browser on the right to find suitable radio stations.

You can search for a specific station, or browse stations by genre, quality or file type.

A double-click on a station starts the recording right away. You can also right-click stations to play the stream in the streamWriter application first which is handy to check out the quality and music.

Additional options allow you to open the website of the radio station, play the station in an external player or save the station as a playlist file for later opening.

The program will record music for as long as you keep it open and running. You can at anytime stop the recording of an individual station or all stations that are currently being recorded.

Recorded songs are moved to the Saved songs tab where you can play them directly in the application. Another option is to cut recorded music which can be handy to cut off a dj or jingles that have been added to the recording.

You can also delete or remove songs again in case you are not happy with the recording or do not like the song.

Another interesting feature of streamWriter is located under Filters. Here it is possible to configure items for a wishlist and ignorelist. All previously recorded songs are for instance automatically added to the ignore list which blocks them from being recorded again.

The wish list does the opposite; Songs of the wish list will automatically be recorded if they are found on a stream.

You may also want to take a look under settings before you start recording Internet radio stations. You can configure file name patterns, post-processing settings and if the program should try to cut ads automatically.

StreamWriter is one of the most comfortable Internet Radio recording applications for the Windows operating system. You can increase the size of your music collection in no time, or use it to record only songs that you have added to the wishlist.

The program is available as a portable version and installer from the developer website.
<br

Most music players support Internet Radio, some offer in-program browsing and searching of music, others can play what the user selects on a website or loads from the local system.

Tapin Radio has been designed to be an easy to use Internet Radio player and recorder. The program is available as a portable version and installer, both of which are offering a wide selection of Internet radio stations for selection.

The program will automatically check for updates on startup and download updates that are found immediately without user interaction.

A selection menu with built-in search is available in the radio player. Users can either enter a search term, e.g. for a genre or station name that they now, or pick one of the available categories. Either way, a listing of radio stations is displayed in the lower half of the screen.

A double-click on a station connects to the stream, and music begins to play in the player. The player offers basic controls. It is possible to change the volume of the music and to stop it. Stations can be added to the favorites to open them faster whenever the program is started.

Tapin Radio keeps track of opened stations which offers another option to launch previously played radio stations in the player. The Internet radio player can also load a stream url directly from the file menu.

About recording Internet radio. A click on record in the main interface, or the selection of Recording > Start Recording in the menu records music from the radio station that is currently playing in the music player.

The options contain recording settings. Tapin Radio for instance records only mp3 streams by default. Wma, aac and ogg streams need to be enabled in the recording options before they can be recorded. It is not really clear why that is done, and the developer should consider enabling the recording all all stream types automatically.

Songs are automatically recognized if the radio station adds meta information to the stream. If that is the case songs are saved individually in the format artist – song.

Tapin Radio’s biggest strength is that it is easy to use. It takes less than ten seconds to find a radio station and start playing it in the player. The ability to record what is playing is a nice bonus.

Advanced users may prefer an all in one solution that programs like Winamp, AIMP2 or Windows Media Player offer. It may take a tad longer to find and play a radio station, but the additional functionality makes more than up for it.

It would be nice if Tapin Radio would support the recording of multiple streams, and options to play and record different stations.

Users who want to test Tapin Radio find more information and downloads at the developer website.

Deezer Music Streaming Service

Entertainment

The Web

deezer

deezer.com

internet-radio

music streaming

download music from Deezer, a popular free music streaming service at that time. The application used back then has not been updated since that day and is no longer working with the latest public version of Deezer.

Reason enough to look a second time at the music portal to see what has changed and if there is still an option to download music to the local computer system.

Deezer.com is a French music streaming service, which becomes obvious when you look at the artists and descriptions on the website. Most of the menus are available in English as well, but there are certain elements like the information about Deezer Premium on the startpage that are in French.

Deezer has come to an agreement with the rights holders and pays part of its advertising revenue to those organizations.

Deezer Features

Guests can play music on Deezer just fine. This includes songs from individual artists or tuning in into one of the web radio stations. Some songs may be restricted based on the visitor’s country of origin though, this is indicated by a gray play icon. Users who hover over the icon see the message “sorry you do not have access to this track from your country of residence”.

Deezer.com guests can use the search to find music and play it right in the browser, with an option to launch a custom radio station that is playing the search results; Again without registration.

The music player sits at the top of the website and plays the music continuously even while navigating the site. It offers the usual controls like pausing, skipping or changing the volume.

Registered Deezer users get additional features on top of the freely available ones. They can create playlists, favorite songs, comment on tracks and interact with other users of the music streaming service.

Deezer Music Availability

I have already mentioned that Deezer concentrates on French music and France. If you are looking for the latest US or UK hits then you will largely be disappointed. Still, there are songs by Cheryl Cole, Rihanna, Nelly or Kings of Leon available on Deezer but usually only in the search results and listed as tribute to, as made famous by and a different artist. Still, it seems to be the real deal. Not sure if this is a loophole that is used by Deezer members or by Deezer itself.

Music is also available in different genres including pop, RnB and Soul, Rock or Jazz. Generally speaking, Deezer offers music for all tastes, and lots of it. The owners claim that Deezer offers more than 7 million music tracks on their site. Deezer is an excellent service to discover lesser known artists, especially if you are not living in France.

Deezer Downloads

I have tried several free tools and none of them worked at this point in time. Some have downloaded samples of the selected songs (400 Kilobytes, 25 seconds) while others refused to work outright. Deezer seems to stream the music in 400 KB chunks, that’s at least what the browser cache shows when it is opened.

Let me know if you know of a way to download music from Deezer.

Verdict

Deezer offers an interesting service that reminds me a lot of Jamendo, another great music streaming and discovery website. The main difference is that Deezer offers signed artists with a larger catalog of music available.

Record Multiple Internet Radio Stations With streamWriter

Open Source

Software

Windows

internet-radio

portable software

record internet radio

streamwriter

windows software
<guid

Just like recording conventional radio, recording Internet radio is legal in many countries. Putting legalities aside, it is also one of the fastest and most comfortable option.

But it has its drawbacks as well. Since it is only possible to select radio stations for recording, it is possible to end up with duplicate songs and songs that the recording user does not like.

We have reviewed many programs in the past that can be used to record Internet radio, from Streamripper over Streamrecorder to Radiosure, but none were that comfortable to use as streamWriter.

It takes less than a minute to record the first Internet radio station with streamWriter, thanks to its intuitive interface, and the fact that it is offered as a portable version and installer.

A radio station browser on the right offers filtering and search options to find suitable radio stations. The stations can be filtered by genre or quality (kbps), and searched for by name.

Users who have a favorite radio station can add the stream url to the application, to record that radio station as well.

A single click on any radio station in the station browser adds it to the list of stations that are recorded by streamWriter. All Internet radio stations added this way are displayed with their name, the current song title, the data received, the amount of songs recorded, the recording speed and the state.

recorded internet radio song listing

Recordings can be stopped and resumed at anytime. It is furthermore possible to listen to the stream or recorded songs and save the information in playlists.

Users who download the latest stable version of the radio recorder won’t see all features that the developer has implemented in the last month. One of the most interesting additions, besides from some layout changes, is the ability to cut mp3 right in the application. This can be handy to remove ads and other contents from the recorded songs.

The latest version of the program is offered as a download on the same page as the stable versions. I did not notice any stability or performance issues in that version.

StreamWriter is a comfortable easy to learn program to record multiple Internet radio streams at once. The program is Open Source and offered as a portable version and setup. It is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system, and available for download at the developer website.

Update: The developer has released StreamWriter 3, a new and improved version. You can read about <a

Users find new music in Youtube videos, Internet radio stations and music blogs, to name a few.

Shuffler.fm is offering a service that turns music posted on music blogs into Internet radio. The concept is pretty simple. Different genres are listed on the start page, from the usual candidates like rap, rock or indie to niches like folk, irish or experimental.

shuffler

A click on a genre switches the view. The new page shows a header bar that offers genre selection and song controls. class="wp-caption-text">shuffler.fm

The rest of the page displays the page of the music blog the song was taken from. It is possible to interact normally on that page, which includes leaving comments or downloading songs directly from the pages.

Shuffler can only be used in the browser, which somewhat limits the service. Still, it is possible to keep the page open in the background and listen to the music all day long.

NoScript or NotScript users will run into some troubles with the service, since Shuffler is using scripts to embed the music blogs, which means that the blogs are blocked automatically by the script.

Users who want to try out <a

It offers an efficient way to find radio stations based on genre and other parameters such as bitrate or compression. Shoutcast made the news recently when it was removed by the developers of the popular media player VLC from their application.

You can read up on that in the following article that we published to explain the removal: About The Shoutcast Removal In VLC 1.1.

The Shoutcast Playlist Downloader is a portable software for Windows that might provide a solution to Windows users. It basically can be used to download Internet Radio playlist files. These playlist files can be executed in a compatible media player, like VLC, Winamp or AIMP2, to listen to the radio station.

shoutcast playlist downloader

It begins with a click on the Refresh button in the program interface to pull the genre listing from Shoutcast. Each genre can be checked individually to include it in the download.

Parameters like the minimum and maximum bitrate, max number of playlists per genre and compression format (AAC+ or MP3) can be specified next to the download directory.

The downloaded playlists can be saved in .pls or .plx format. The playlist files are automatically saved in genre directories to make identification easier.

The individual playlist files can be executed with a simple double-click. The playlists are ideal for transferal to XBMC, other gaming systems, mobile devices or media players on the computer. It is theoretically possible to download the playlist files manually from Shoutcast as well, which is probably the better solution for users who want more control on the selection process.

Shoutcast Playlist Downloader is available for download at the developer’s website over at <a

Both VLC and MPlayer offer all the tools to record both types of streams. The problem is that users have to use the command line to do that which is not very comfortable for most.

Streamrecorder.net has basically been designed as a graphical user interface to record media streams with either VLC or MPlayer. The developer has added enough room to add a third program in case the user prefers another multimedia program to do the recording.

Configuration is unfortunately complicated as the program requires not only the paths to VLC and MPlayer but also paths to four other Open Source programs to be entered before the settings are saved. It can be that we have overlooked a function to make the process less complicated but we were not able to find one during our tests (deleting their references might helped, we have not tried that).

Streamrecorder.net is ready for usage afterwards. Everything else is configured in the main program interface. It is there that the stream url is entered, that the duration of the recording is defined (unlimited or time based), the output format and directory is specified and the recorder, joining and post processing is selected.

The recorder can either be MPlayer, VLC or a third recorder specified by the user. Videos and mp3 can be joined and the post processing options will ad ID3 tags and mp3 header correction to the mix. Both the joining and post processing options can be extended as well by another program specified by the user. The command line arguments have to be specified by the user as well.

The reporting is excellent as it displays many information about the recording and processing of the stream. The software could use some reworking on the configuration side to make it easier to configure. There should be an option to disable joining and post processing so that these programs do not have to be added to the options screen.

Other programs like Streamripper are easier to configure and allow to record multiple radio stations at once.

Streamrecorder.net requires the Microsoft .net Framework and can be downloaded from the Sourceforge project website. It is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system.

Record Internet Radio Streams With Stream Harvester

Operating Systems

Software

Windows

internet radio streams

internet-radio

linux software

record internet radio

record radio

windows software
<guid

The program currently supports recording the playlist formats pls and m3u if they link to the media formats mp3, ogg or nsv. That covers most of the Internet radio streams on popular services like Shoutcast or Icecast.

The Internet radio recorder offers a semi-automatic approach. New radio stations need to be added to the program manually. One interesting option here is to select different storage locations for the recorded radio streams.

Every radio station that has been added this way is then listed in the program’s main interface which contains the options to manage the recordings.

<img

Stream Harvester can record multiple stations at once, the only limit is defined by the user’s Internet connection and PC.

One interesting feature is the relay option which can relay a stream so that it can be accessed by another application on the same computer system as well.

Stream Harvester is a simple program that can be used to easily record multiple Internet radio stations at once. Jelli tries to change that by offering Internet radio stations that are run by its users. It basically works by allowing users to vote for songs with the most voted songs being played on Jelli.

Signup for the service is unfortunately mandatory. Users can either link their Jelli account to their Facebook account (with no apparent benefit to the registration process) or register without linking to Facebook. Either way an email address confirmation link has to be clicked on before it is possible to tune into the radio stations.

<span

Other forms of interaction are provided as well including a chat for all users who are tuned in as well as Facebook and Twitter integration. Jelli users receive a limited amount of rockets and bombs. Rockets can be used to push a song in the positive direction while bombs do the opposite.

The Internet Radio is offered as a m3u file that can be played in most media players. The playback is independent from the website which means music plays all the time no matter where the user navigates on the website.

Advertisement is played quite frequently which is the only negative aspect of Jelli. Besides that it offers a unique interesting service that hopefully inspires other services to expand on that. Click here to visit <a

The program comes pre-configured with 25000 radio stations with the option to add stations that are not already in the list manually.

The biggest plus over comparable products like Streamripper is the simplicity of the program. All it takes to start recording a radio station is to select it from the list of available stations.

These lists are sorted by popularity and genre. Each listed radio station features three icons that are used to add stations to the favorites, tune in and play a station or to record a station.

Multiple Internet radio stations can be recorded simultaneously by Radioget. All it takes to to that is to click on multiple recording icons in the radio station browser. There does not seem to be a maximum limit for the amount of radio stations that are recorded simultaneously. It all depends on the computer’s Internet connection.

It was for instance no problem to record 20 Internet radio stations at once with a 50 Mbit connection which probably would be able to record even more stations.

Another possibility to record Internet radio stations is the automatic recording options which will automatically record the configured number of stations in a selected folder upon program launch. This can for instance be used to record the ten favorite stations or the 5 most popular stations in a specific genre.

Radio stations that have not been added to the program yet can be added manually if they offer a pls file. This pls file needs to be downloaded and added to the program afterwards. An option to add the url directly would be nice but does not seem to be available.

Radioget tries to automatically discover tag related information like the artist’s name, album name or song name. If those values are provided by the radio station they will automatically be written as tags and in the filename to make identification easier.

The most recent songs that have been downloaded with the help of Radioget are listed in the program’s interface from where they can be played or deleted.

Another interesting option that Radioget provides is the ability to add artists to a filter list so that only songs of that artists will be downloaded while all other songs will be ignored by the program.

Radioget is a simplistic but effective Internet radio downloader for the Windows operating system. It does lack advanced features like the ability to add urls of radio station directly or settings like proxy support or changing the referrer.

Installation

Radioget is free if it is downloaded from the Giveaway of the Day website and installed on the computer today. The program is activated by clicking on the buy link in the left sidebar of the program after launching it.

The license information will be filled out automatically by the program. The program is fully licenses if the user clicks on the Finish button at the end of the buy screen.

The program and additional information are available at the developer’s website

Internet Radio Recorder The MP3 VCR

Software

Windows

internet-radio

mp3 stream

Open Source

record internet radio

record radio

shoutcast

streamripper

the mp3 vcr

windows software
<guid

The software supports Shoutcast and other mp3 streams which can be copied and pasted or dragged and dropped into the interface. The software itself comes with a preset of 40 radio stations which can be loaded right away. New radio stations can be added to this list so that they can be opened faster in consecutive runs.

The program uses three independent windows to control the recordings. Windows 1 is the start window with all options and configuration settings. The user can define the download path in here, load radio stations, change the skin, configure the build in Live365 support, change the default stream title format or generate a command line command for this preset which can then be used in batch files, loaded during startup or used in the Windows Task Scheduler.

<span

It uses basic controls to play, record, pause and stop the music. The MP3 VCR tries to identify the name of the song so that it can save each tune with a descriptive file name. This is however only possible if the radio stations are including the title in the stream.

<img

This, in combination with the option to launch the program from the command line make it possible to record specific radio stations regularly.

The MP3 VCR can be downloaded from the developer’s website. It is compatible with most versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system including Windows 7.

Internet Radio Music Player Radiosure

Software

Windows

internet-radio

music software

portable software

radio

radio music

radiosure

windows software
<guid

Most music players are capable of playing Internet Radio without installation of add-ons; All that is needed to start listening to Internet radio is the url of the radio station. Radiosure is a radio music player that aids the user by providing access to thousands of radio stations in its interface.

While experienced users access websites like Shoutcast inexperienced users might like the idea of an all-in-one application that starts playing music instantly and makes the selection of music stations easier than ever. The music player will list more than 12000 Internet radio stations in its interface which can be listened to with the click of the mouse button. All stations are listed by name, country, genre and language with the option to sort by any of the parameters.

The search will probably be the function to find radio stations as it is faster and more convenient than scrolling through the massive list of stations. The developers should think about filters that allow users to narrow down the results in the list automatically.

<span

Recordings will automatically be split by track and an option exists to skip already recorded tracks. The functionality is however not as advanced as that of specialized tools like Last.fm have now announced that they will start a subscription based service for a large part of their user base which will go live on March 30, 2009. Users not living in the countries United States, United Kingdom or Germany will have to pay a subscription fee of €3 per month if they want to continue listening to Last.fm radio. All other parts of the website remain freely accessible for anyone. Users not accessing from the three countries listed get a 30 track free trial before they cannot listen to the radio streams anymore unless they subscribe to the service. It is unclear if that 30 free track trial resets each month or if it is only available once. It should be made clear that this does not affect song previews or full tracks that are listed on the website.

Nothing will change as well for existing subscribers. The Last.fm blog post where the announcement got posted is full of criticism about the move. One of the main questions asked is why those three countries are exempt from the fee. The reason is ad revenue next to a strategic decision which are considered key markets. Advertisement simply pays less if a user from India, China or South Africa views it or interacts with it compared to users from the mentioned key markets.

It still remains unclear why Last.fm made the decision. Most users who expressed their opinion think that either the Recording Industry or CBS has something to do with it. If the Recording Industry was the culprit it is most likely because of licensing fees while CBS might want Last.fm to run profitable or at least even.

MP3 Music Downloads With ESP

Software

Windows

aimp2

download-music

esp

internet-radio

mp3 music downloads

music-downloads

musicy

record internet radio

streamripper

xmplay
<guid

The various methods depend on the legal situation in individual countries. It can be said however that it is completely legal to record music from Internet Radio stations. Another definitely legal way is to download music that has been uploaded by the artist or the record company for public download.

ESP is a software program that combines both concepts. It makes use of the Shoutcast directory of Internet Radios that the user can listen to online. It provides the means to record the active stream right away. Other applications that handle this well are Streamripper, Musicy and several music players like AIMP2 or XMPlay.

ESP would not be special in this regard if it would not offer a more or less unique feature in addition to being able to record Internet Radio. The software can automatically search for music that has been publicly made available by the artist or the record company. The developers say that ESP looks only for music that has been uploaded by the artist to social networking websites. The software itself will not display the source of the music download which could be reason enough for cautious users to not use the feature. Tests revealed that it pulled songs from websites like MySpace.

<span
