It quickly becomes a burden if the image count reaches two digits and more or less impracticable when it reaches three and more. That’s where image downloaders come into play which automate the downloading of images from Internet sites. The downloaders come in the form of browser plugins or standalone applications.

Image Ripper is a standalone application that supports batch photo downloads from several Chinese photo hosting sites. It currently supports downloading images from the following image hosting sites:

duide.com

heels.cn

pics100.cn

tu11.cc

meituiji.com

pal.ath.cx

tuku.keaibbs.com

The photo downloader’s interface is simplistic and easy to understand. It consists of an url field at the top which accepts urls from the sites listed above. The user needs to select a local directory as well which will be used to store the images on the local computer system. Tapping the green button to the right will initiate a page scan. Image Ripper will let the user know if it found any images on the page. The photos that are found will automatically be downloaded to the local computer system.

<img

Thumbnails of the photos that have already been downloaded are also available. Tapping the space bar will display only the current photo in the program window.

Downloaded photos can be uploaded right from the program to Gdrive or Picasa. The first release of Image Ripper is promising, at least for users of those Chinese photo hosting sites. Alternatives are our favorite program <a

The application will automatically monitor selected locations on the computer’s hard drive for digital photos and display them in its interface. Initially only locations in the user’s documents and settings folder are monitored but it is possible to add additional locations during setup and afterwards in the settings.

The digital photo software will automatically recognize new digital photos that get added to monitored directories on the computer system. This is an excellent way of monitoring the default locations that photos from the digital camera get synced in. All photos will be displayed by default in the interface as thumbnails. It is possible to enter a full screen view mode for images by double-clicking them. Other options that are accessible from the interface are image rotation and deletion.

Two interesting additional features of the photo software are photo groups and the extensive filters that are offered. Photos can be added to groups by the user. Groups can be created freely by the user to add photos to them. Possibilities include parties, holidays and basically anything that the user can think of.

<span

The detailed view contains some additional features like Flickr, Picasa or SmugMug upload capabilities, setting images as wallpapers or printing photos. All in all a very clever great looking photo software.

The developer website is no longer working, we have taken the liberty to upload the software to our servers from where you can download <a

It is not comparable to a fully fledged image editor like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP but it is able to stand its ground on many levels. Especially the editing and enhancement features are worth a closer inspection.

After loading an image into Image Analyzer the operations menu becomes available which is basically the central menu of the image processing software. It provides access to basic editing features like resizing, red eye removal or rotating the image.

Other features include:

Automatic brightness, contrast, gamma and saturation adjustment

Retouch tools

Deconvolution for out-of-focus and motion blur compensation

Morphological operations

Color model conversion

Distance, Fourier and discrete cosine transformation

Retinex filter for reducing shadows and increasing local contrast

Image Analyzer is plugin driven and the software developer provides links to several plugins on their website that can be added by simply moving them into the ProcessingPlugins folder of the application. Image processing plugins like Combine for High Dynamic Range, 3D modeling, batch processing and Fractal interpolation are available and make up fine additions to image analyzer.

The image processing tool has build in camera, scanner and printer support and runs fine on most Microsoft operating systems. To be precise it runs fine on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. The size of Image Analyzer is 800 Kilobytes packed.
