We have posted a guide on How To Download MP3 From The Hype Machine Website earlier this year which involved a Greasemoney script which offered direct downloads from the Hypem.com website.

The Hype Machine Downloader is an add-on for the Firefox web browser that offers similar capabilities, albeit in a slightly different form.

See, the userscript displays download buttons next to each track that was listed on the Hypem website. The Firefox add-on taps into the music player on the website and displays a save track directly in the player.

A click on Save Track saves the track that is currently playing in the music player. That’s slightly more complicated than the direct download links provided by the userscript that we have reviewed earlier.

However, it is a better option for users who actually want to preview the music tracks before they save select ones to the local hard drive.

In the end, it is a matter of choice and how fast the developers react when Hypem.com changes the way music is streamed.

The Hype Machein Track Downloader is available for direct installation at the official Mozilla Firefox add-on repository.

The Hype Machine currently supports Winamp, iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Player and a online flash player. All songs are downloaded as playlists and will be streamed to your computer. You could use streamripper with Winamp to download the files if you like.

Every time you search for an artist, song or concert you can download the playlist that was created on the fly. You could also download a playlist of the latest mp3 files that have been added to the index or search the most popular or most active music blogs.
