Desktop wallpaper resources are highly popular on the Internet. We previously covered some of the best in our HD Wallpaper listing. Wallbase is a new wallpaper site that hosts a huge selection of more than 370k wallpapers all tagged and sorted to make it easier for the visitor to find and download wallpapers from the site.

Three options are provided to find wallpapers: Random, Toplist and search which is further divided into a keyword and color search.

Wallpapers are displayed as thumbnails on the screen with a filter bar on top of them. This filter toolbar is displayed on all pages. It can be used to filter wallpapers by resolution, ratio, board (general, anime and high resolution) and type (sfw, nsfw and sketchy).

The filters can therefor be used to find wallpapers for the exact resolution of the computer monitor. Available wallpaper resolutions range from 800×600 to 2560×1600 which should be sufficient for the majority of computer users.

A click on a wallpaper opens a preview image of the wallpaper. The wallpaper can be downloaded from there to the computer system (there is no option to download the wallpapers directly from the search results listing). A link to find similar wallpapers is provided on the individual wallpaper pages as well.

HD Wallpapers

I just realized that my last Wallpaper website recommendation dates a while back and thought it would be nice to give everyone the opportunity to add some new wallpapers to his collection. The website that I’m going to introduce is called My HD Wallpapers although that title might be a bit misleading because wallpapers are available in many different sizes on the website.

More than 8000 images are currently hosted on the website offered in different formats and resolutions of up to 2560×1600. The pictures are categorized in albums with the usual assortment of celebrities, cars, landscapes but also abstract images and vector wallpapers.

A click on a category loads either subcategories or the first batch of 15 images that are shown per page. The images are displayed as thumbnails and another click loads the image giving the user the option to download it directly to his computer. A pulldown menu offers different resolutions of the currently selected image.

I did spend nearly an hour on the website and I was able to grab a few nice images for my wallpaper collection.

6200 high-res and widescreen wallpapers

Desktop Nexus is a site with a wide variety of high resolution and widescreen wallpapers. The wallpapers are divided into popular categories such as Entertainment, Video Games and Cars. Each category displays the most popular, the newest and a selection of random wallpapers from that category next to a tag cloud and sub categories that define the selection even further.

One main feature of Desktop Nexus is that wallpapers are available in a lot of different formats that suit full screen and widescreen monitors. Resolutions start at 800×600 for full screen monitors and end at 1600×1200 there. The widescreen wallpapers start at 1280×800 and 2560×1600.

You do find a lot of great looking wallpapers at the website. I think it is rather strange that the download count is so low for all of the wallpapers. Maybe it is because the site is relatively new. You do not need to be registered to download a wallpaper in the size that you want which is definitely another plus for this website.

3000 High Resolution Wallpapers

If you are looking for a new site that offers a lot of high resolution wallpapers you should take a look at the web album that is offered on the No Pixel website. Resolutions go up to 1900×1200 with a lot of widescreen wallpapers in the resolution 1680×1050. The majority is showing natural images like landscapes, plants, animals and buildings.

One nice feature is the slideshow. If you move your mouse over the current image three buttons are shown on the top of it. The play button starts the slideshow which is loading one image after the other while the other two buttons are for manually navigating the pictures.

It took a while until I figured out how to save the high resolution images. Only a thumbnail is displayed that is not linking directly to the image. You actually have to left-click the image to display the download link to the high resolution image.

The biggest images can have a size of nearly 1 Megabyte, could take some time to load on slow connections.
