This is a real story. You might have noticed that the Grand Effect toolbar spilled out 404 errors. I removed the toolbar from top after checking with the main website to find out that it was unreachable (Site Temporarily Unavailable).

I quickly contacted Sarah Perez who is in charge of the website and she told me the following. Her websites are all hosted at Dreamhost who closed down the account because of disputing credit card charges which Sarah had nothing to do with.

Now the funny thing is that you can only get the Dreamhost account access back if you send them a money order or check by postal mail for the amount of the chargebacks. The mail goes to a postbox address that Dreamhost seems to check twice a week.

Imagine that. You are a business owner and need your website and they check the frigging postbox twice week adding to the waiting time.

Support is unreachable it seems. She put in four support tickets and one complaint and tried to phone them but is only receiving voicemail. She cannot reach them no matter what she tries.

I hope everything sorts out soon. Things like that can throw a business back several months.

I wonder why all those companies shoot first. It would be so much better if they at least tried to contact the owner of the account before going on a rampage.

ParisLemon And The Last Podcast! join Grand Effect

ghacks

grand effect

parislemon

sarah in tampa

the last podcast

Grand Effect network I had the following thoughts: Paris Lemon sounded like a hot French chick ( sorry girls) and I was anxious to get a first picture when I woke up from my pleasant daydream to find out that it was a blog by MG Siegler about tech and new media. So, no hot girl but a damn good blog which is something that I can live with since I prefer content over looks anytime, anywhere..

I honestly have not heard about The Last Podcast before which is surely going to change now. I was not able to locate Podcasts there which is kinda freaking me out.. just a little bit. He does seem to provide an interesting perspective about (mainly) Web 2.0. So, two plus four makes six: Grand Effect (I almost wrote Grand Central, wonder how I came up with that) is now home to six blogs that cover a variety of topics.

What I like is that we will remain who we are. This will never be a big anonymous network with hundreds of blogs, it will remain small and exclusive and I’m looking forward to getting to know each and everyone of our network.

Grand Effect is the name of the blog network I’m in. It’s a relative small blog network compared to others that are around. We started with five sites and I’m excited that we were able to bring in another website that makes a very good fit. The website’s name is SheGeeks, a site that concentrates on social networking and social media coverage but also on software and online services like WordPress.

Just to take away that first thought that came up when I heard the name SheGeeks and that will probably be your first thought either. This is not a blog for women, not even close to that. It’s for everyone who is interested in those topics. The articles are well written and I immediately have added her blog to my feed reader. It’s good and I can recommend it, if you have the chance drop by and take a look for yourself (and subscribe to her blog if you like it)

The Grand Effect homepage is not really ready yet and there is much going on in the background. We will add some information about ourselves to the website, better advertising opportunities and include the RSS feeds of all the blogs of the network on the main page.

<span

I was approached some time ago by Sarah if I wanted to be a co-founder of a new blog network called Grand Effect which would start with a few blogs in February. I liked the idea from the beginning and decided to join the blog network.

Grand Effect is mainly used to promote the blogs of the network and will grow over time. It will never be a blog network with hundreds of websites, at least that’s not in the plans that we have with that network. I would not rule it out completely though.

If you have not done so check out the other four blogs that created the Grand Effect blog network. They are Sarah in Tampa, Twitterholics, Earth Loving Tech and eXtra For Every Publisher.

All four of these are well established tech related blogs but each one of them is pretty unique in itself.
