Granted, someone will need to die before you can purchase this gift, however if you’re willing to wait than you too could brighten someone’s day with this pencil box full of pencils made out of human carbon. You also get the deceased’s name printed on the side of each pencil as you can see from the screenshot.

This is the brainchild of Nadine Jarvis who likes to create death inspired design work, or ‘work in post mortem’ if you prefer.

That’s not all though, you don’t just use these pencils until their gone, the box is designed so just one pencil can be removed at a time and are sharpened back into the box so it becomes an urn for the remains.

If you would like to be useful even after dying than perhaps this is the way to go.

We have covered the online service Rasterbator in the past that converted an image into a rasterized wall poster. Block Posters is a similar service with the difference that the images are not rasterized which makes the results even more impressive.

A large wall poster is created in three steps. An image is uploaded to the website from the user’s computer in the first one. Step 2 is the actual creation process. The user picks the size in Din A4 sheets that he wants the poster to be. Images with larger resolutions work better than smaller ones obviously. The default setting is a width of 4 pages which can be changed to another figure between 1 which would be the original size of the image to 10. Choosing a width of ten would make the wall poster 7 feet wide and 5.6 feet high. The default width of 4 would still create a 2.8 feet wide and 2.2 feet high wall poster.

Once the width has been selected the user can change the view from portrait to landscape and the format from A4 to US Letter if he likes. A click on continue will create the wall poster on the server and provide a download in PDF format.

The PDF can be printed on a normal printer afterwards and it is only a matter of finding the right place and attaching the poster to that place afterwards.

The Gallery contains some amazing pictures of wall posters that have been created using the Block Posters service.

Photo Books are a great gift idea. I once created one manually which was lots of work, never thought about the possibility to create one on the Internet before. The benefits are clearly that the photo book looks more professional but still keeps the unique touch which can be attributed to the pictures and text that can be added to the photo book. Creating a photo book on the Internet can be a time safer as well.

Albelli Photobucket is one of those services on the Internet where photo books can be created. Unlike several other services on the Internet it provides an Adobe Air application which comes with an advantage and disadvantage. The advantage is the fact that the application is run on the user’s computer which means that there is no delay when choosing photos from the hard drive of the user. Photos can also be imported from Photobucket, Flickr and two other image hosters.

The disadvantage is Adobe Air. Well not really an disadvantage but Adobe Air has to be installed before the Albelli Photobucket application can be used. It’s not a complicated process though and everything runs fluent when both applications have been installed.

The process in the application is always the same. The user chooses a product that he wants to create. Products are different sized photo books that vary not only in sizes but also in the amount of pages.

The second step is optional. A theme can be selected. Currently five different occasions each with several themes can be selected. Some examples would be themes for weddings, vacations or a baby.

The photos can be uploaded in the next step. Supported are photos from the hard drive and from four online image hosters. The four are Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa and SmugMug. Multiple photos can be imported at once. The application recommends to select additional photos if you have not selected enough to fill all pages with at least one photo.

Photos can be placed manually or automatically in the album. Between one and four photos can be placed on each page of the photo album. What I really liked was the creation process. Each page can be made with a different layout which means that you can place between one and four images on a page and add text to it as well. Each photo and the text can be placed freely on the page. Photos can even be rotated and resized if so desired. It is always possible to add more images and pages or remove some. I would probably leave some whitespace on the first page to write something manually on that page.

Prices start at $12.95 for a medium landscape photo book. Items are only shipped in the United States and there is no shipping and handling currently. To top this I have ten coupon codes that will reduce the price of a photo book by $12.95. That means you can create a free medium landscape photo book or reduce the price of a higher priced item by that amount.

Just write a comment to let me know that you want to have a photo book and let me know what you plan to do with it.
