Face in a Hole

It seems to be the tip day of the week because this is actually the third tip I received by email today. Carlos send me the tip, thanks for that. Face in a Hole is a website where you can put your face, or the face of someone else, on well known images. Ever wanted to have the Rock’s muscles, Audrey Hepburn’s body or Wolverine’s claws ?

Face in a hole makes that possible. Just select a scenario from one of the many available. You can filter scenarios by categories if you like. Available categories are for instance Sports or Advertising. Once a user has selected a scenario he has to choose a source for the face that he wants to put on the image. The choices are either a webcam image or one from the hard drive.

The image is then added as a layer to the scenario and you can move it around, zoom and rotate it so that the face fits perfectly with the image that you have uploaded. The system tries to put the image that you upload in the correct relation to the scenario that you have selected.

Once you are satisfied you can simply save the image and send it to your friends or upload it to your Facebook or Myspace profile. Lots of fun guaranteed !

Elf Yourself

I’m normally not a fan of putting images of people I know on the Internet but I made an exception for the Elf Yourself website. The pictures are still private and not viewable by anyone who does not know the correct link to the set that you have created. But let me start with a short explanation of what Elf Yourself is all about.

Users can upload up to four images, portraits preferred, and put the heads of the people on those images on elf bodies who will perform a short dance. A friend of mine was sending me a choreography that he created from pictures of his family and it was hilarious.

I did the same for my family and everyone liked it a lot. Heads can be scaled and rotated to match the body of the elf. Dots which can be partially moved are used to outline the head in detail. A outlined mouth has to be placed on the mouth of the person on the image as well.

It is possible to add and edit up to four pictures or use random images (from a preselected pool) to fill blank spaces. Voices can be added as well by dialing a phone number in the United States, probably a bit unpractical for users who do not live there.

A link is generated which can then be send to friends and relatives as a pleasant surprise.

I have to say this is the most ingenious app I have ever seen. Download Nada to feel better, while it does nothing for you too! Nada promises to be light on hard drive usage, light on memory, not weigh you down with unnecessary features, a dream come true.

Nada 0.5 is a 1kb download, upgraded from Nada 0.9. According to the developers they will have Nada 0.0 out by the end of the year, not much more to go then! Take a look at just one of the coolest features, compatibility is at the heart of this piece of software ingenuity:

“Can I (not) use NaDa™ on an old computer ?
Sure. NaDa™ is compatible with any hardware you can imagine. For example, NaDa™ does nothing on Ze PowerSuitcase, Ze Cube (Think Clear!) or on the >SE/30-TV.”

Computers in Movies

I thought about writing on this topic for some time, I think it started with the movie Independence Day. You know, the movie where aliens invade the earth and destroy some major cities and the like. They defeat the aliens by uploading a computer virus to the alien mainframe which of course is compatible to the virus.

That’s pretty lucky that aliens with advanced technology still use some old mac from earth to power their shields. You find more of those stories at living the geek life, its a recommended read for everyone who is in for a good laugh.

A fly trainer ?

I can´t believe it. Even after seeing it for the third time. A Japaneses woman is shown on this tv spot who seems to have been able to train some flies to do acrobatic performances. Actually looks more than bees to me but anyways, the flies turn around when she moves her finger and even start playing with a tiny ball and start moving it around with their legs.

This certainly looks like the video has been improved with computers to create the illusion that the woman has in fact trained the fly to do her bidding. It is likely that this is fake, even though it has been online for a number of years.
