If you are looking for a simple file hoster that lets you upload files with a size of up to five Gigabyte without registration you might want to consider File Dropper.

The basic interface is something that I really like. Users can upload one or multiple files from their computer or from an url to File Dropper. There is unfortunately no transfer progress bar which makes it quite a guessing game as to how long the transfer will take before it completes.

Once the transfer is finished you will be presented with an url that is pointing to the file or files that you have uploaded. This url can be send to friends or posted on the Internet so that other users can download the files from that url.

Speaking of which, downloads were rather slow when I tested the service. The download speed never exceeded 10 Kilobyte when I tried it. Could be a temporary glitch or simply that their servers are not capable of handling such a large number of requests at the same time.

The service did get quite some coverage in the past day and is probably overrun currently. Time will tell if new servers will be added or if the service stops existing like so many others before. Another problem that I encountered was that the website lacks information on how long they keep the files on their server.

The list contained a lot of sites that allow users to upload free files to their website and share it with others. A negative aspect was that it only featured a few categories that were not that useful to find a host that suited special needs.

Therefor, I decided to compile a new list with more information available at first glance. Information besides the site name consist of the following variables.

It took me about 6 hours to compile the list, its divided into file hosts with and without registrations and image hosts with and without registrations. If you have additions let me know and I add them in the january list.

Reg: Does the site require a registration before you can use their services ? Registration means free registration of course.
Filesize: Is there a maximum size for a single file, in Mb ? No res = no restrictions
Space: How much diskspace is allocated for the user ? If there is no registration the max filesize has been taken as max space allowed. No res = no restrictions
Bandwidth: Are there bandwidth limitations ?
Filetypes: Are certain filetypes not allowed to be uploaded ?
Hotlinking: Does the site allow hotlinking ?
Expires: Are the files auto-deleted after a time, if yes the number of days are shown. If the number is unknown yes will be shown. Sometimes files only get deleted after inactivity for a certain time, if thats the case a “i” is added to the number. Sometimes file get deleted after a certain number of downloads, if thats the case a “d” is added to the number.
