One of the areas where computer users can save lots of time is when they are filling out web forms. This can be a comment form where they have to enter a name, email address, web address and comment or a customer support form where they have to enter additional information like a product’s serial number or model.

Think of the “leaving a comment” scenario for moment. Whenever you want to leave a comment on a website you need to enter your email address, name and comment on that page. The browser may remember the values for that site the next time you want to leave a comment, but not when you want to leave a comment on another page.

The same is true for sign-up pages where you have to enter your first and last name, email and maybe other information like address, country and phone number.

InFormEnter is an unobtrusive and versatile add-on for the Firefox web browser that can semi-automate the process of filling out forms in the browser. While it does not come with options to fill out forms automatically for you, it can be used to fill out forms semi-automatically.

You basically add text that you use on a regular basis to the add-on, which becomes then selectable whenever you fill out web forms on the Internet.

The add-on supports profiles, so that you can create different profiles for aliases or situations.

<img

When enabled, it will display an icon next to each form on the current website. A left-click on the entry displays the available text phrases and variables that you can enter into the text field.

<img

Firefox users can install the add-on directly from the add-on’s page jump to the first text field on a website. This is handy on websites with no auto focus on the first text field. There was no apparent way, either by installing a Firefox add-on or userscript, to automate that process further by automatically focusing on the first text field on specific sites.

Research for disabling that feature on websites with enabled auto focus led to a Greasemonkey user script that would do exactly what we have been looking for earlier today: A script that would automatically jump to the first text field on selected websites without user interaction. A Greasemonkey script for that purpose is great because of the following reasons:

It is not limited to the Firefox web browser but can also be added to other web browser supporting Greasemonkey or those scripts.

It can be enabled on specific domains (or all).

A user wanting to install the script needs to download Greasemonkey or a compatible program. Once Greasemonkey or its equivalent are installed the Focus First Textbox script can be added to the web browser. The last step involves adding domain names or strings where this user script should be active on.

A right-click on the Greasemonkey icon in the status bar of Firefox and the selection of Manage User Scripts will open the configuration. Select the Focus First Textbox script from the left sidebar. A click on the Add button next to included pages will open a basic form that can be filled with a domain name.

<img
