Managing a large number of sets on Flickr is on the other hand not the most comfortable thing to do. That’s where the free cross-platform Java application SuprSetr steps in.

SuprSetr basically improves the photo set capabilities of Flickr, and here in particular the organizational process of Flickr set management. When you run the program for the first time after installation (under Windows) you are asked to authorize the application on Flickr to enable access to a user’s photos on the photo hosting site.

The program opens an authorization url in the default browser. This is a specific Flickr page where the user can accept or deny the authorization. Once authorized a list of all existing photosets are retrieved from Flickr. All sets are set to unmanaged at the beginning, which means that SuprSetr has no additional information about the sets that have been retrieved from Flickr.

The main window of the program displays a list of the photo sets. All managed sets are listed first, followed by unmanaged sets in alphabetic order. It is optionally possible to hide all unmanaged sets from the View menu.

The toolbar at the top offers buttons to add, edit, delete and refresh the sets, and to use the filter text box at the top which filters sets by their title. Sets can be viewed on Flickr with a right-click and the selection of Open Set in Browser from the context menu.

To manage sets, double-click one. This takes you to the Set Editor window. The first step is to check the Manage this set with SuprSetr box, the second to define the parameters that become available afterwards. Parameters include tags, date taken and uploaded and sorting.

Once you define the parameters of the set, SuprSetr will know how to search your Flickr stream for photos that match the parameters, and can then update the content of the photoset based on the search results. SuprSetr will add and remove photos from the set to make it match the results of the search. However, SuprSetr will NEVER delete photos from your photostream.

SuprSetr comes with additional tools and options. This includes Twitter integration to tweet whenever new photos are added to specific sets or all sets. Messages can be customized with placeholders:

%t – This will be replaced with the photoset title

%u – This will be replaced with the photoset URL. The URL will be shortened with bit.ly

%c – This will be replaced with the number of photos that were added to the photoset

%C – This will be replaced with the total number of photos in the photoset

The Tools menu leads to some nice to have tools like FavrTagr which analyzes all photos on Flickr based on the number of favs that they have received. For every ten favorites a new tag will be added in the form fav10, fav20, fav30 and so on. It is possible to create a new set based on these tags.

A second tool that is available is the Set Ordering Tool which can be used to reorder the list of photosets on Flickr.

Flickr users who work with photo sets and need better manageability of their sets can download SuprSetr from the project website.

Flickr Tools: Flickr Downloadr

Software

Windows

download photos

flickr

flickr download

flickr tools

photo host

photos

portable software

window software
<guid

This makes it attractive for software developers to produce Flickr Tools as they can reach a huge audience with them. Flickr Downloadr is a new software program to download photos of Flickr. The first version of the tool has been released recently with several feature disabled that have not been implemented yet.

As of now it is only possible to download photos from one specific user. Only photos that are not licensed with all rights reserved will be downloaded while the rest will be skipped. The Flickr tool only works under Windows Vista or Windows 7. It is on the other hand a small portable application that works great if you regularly download files from the photo hosting website.

The application will display the option to download photos by user, group or everyone with only the user option enabled. The next page will display a simple form that accepts a name as input. It will search Flickr for that username and display the photos as thumbnails on the next page of the software program. There are two additional options that only search the favorites or contacts of a person.

<span

It is furthermore possible to navigate the photo collection. Copyrighted images are displayed with a C on the thumbnail. A click on the Next button will initiate the download of the photos to the local computer.

We have covered similar tools in the past that provide additional options. Those are Backup Flickr Accounts which is offering to pretty much download anything that is available on Flickr, the Firefox extension Tag Galaxy is one of the Flickr Tools that visualizes Flickr image browsing utilizing tags and planetary constellations to show their related tags. A search for night for instance displays the related tags light, sky, dark and city rotating around the central tag. The interesting aspect of this display is that a click on any other tag other than the main tag will combine the old tag with the new tag to include only pictures that have been tagged with all tags.

Clicking on the central “star” will close in on that star and fill it with exactly 235 picture thumbnails. The planet can be rotated with the left mouse button and zoomed with the mouse wheel. A click on a preview image will load that image in front, another click will load information about the picture like the name of the artist, a description and a link to the Flickr page.

The Flickr page of the selected photo are loaded in a new tab. The user can use the navigation on top of the screen to load another batch of thumbnail pictures from Flickr which replace the old photos shown on the planet.

Fleace, which stands for Flickr-Enabled Automatic Changer for Everyone, is an interesting wallpaper changer that uses Flickr as the main source for wallpapers. The system works straightforward. The user enters a few tags into the application or keeps the default tags (beach and puppy), changes a few options like the size of the source that should be downloaded, the countdown timer of the preview window or if a image that does not fit on the whole screen should be centered or stretched.

He can then change the wallpaper immediately by pressing the corresponding button. This button will open a smaller preview window that is displaying a thumbnail image of a random image that got pulled from Flickr. The image was tagged with at least one tag that have been set in the application itself.

A click on the Change button loads another image. This can be repeated until a suitable image has been found. There is no immediate acceptance button. The user has to wait until the countdown reaches zero which will automatically have the effect that the full image will be downloaded from Flickr and set as the system’s wallpaper.

<span

This will have the effect that Fleace will be autostarted and display its window so that the user can pick a new wallpaper. If he sets the countdown timer to 0 the whole process of selecting and setting a new wallpaper from Flickr will be invisible to the user. The application will terminate after changing the wallpaper on the computer system.

Fleace is compatible with all Windows operating systems beginning with Windows 95 including Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Vista Flickr Uploader

Software

Windows

flickr

flickr software

flickr tip

flickr tools

flickr uploader

image host
<guid

The software is supporting several operating systems and another tool made by a third party has to add features that the official uploader is not supporting to have any chance to being recognized at all.

Vista Flickr Uploader is a specifically designed Flickr image uploader for Windows Vista. It makes use of the Extensible Metadata Platform support of Windows Vista. The downside is that XMP is not supported yet by Flickr which means that the only distinguishable feature that the application is offering is not supported by Flickr.

It will however be interesting if Flickr is adding support for XMP in the future. Other than that the Vista Flickr Uploader is supporting the usual features of an uploader.

<span

This can have the effect that the original size of the photo that has been uploaded to Flickr is not available for viewing and download.

The api on the other hand does not care about those restrictions and provides access to the original photo as well and that’s what the Get Flickr script over at Techroam is utilizing.

All the user needs to do is copy the Photo ID of the photo that he wants to view or download in full size from Flick and paste it into the Get Flickr script. The Photo ID is part of the url of every photo that is displayed on Flickr. It’s usually displayed after the flickr.com/photos/username/ part of the url.

The Get Flickr script computes the url of the original image and displays a link to it in the same window. The only way to prevent this from happening is if an uploader is marking his photos as private or if he converts them to the size that he wants them to show up before uploading the to Flickr.

Update: The original script to download blocked photos from the popular image hosting site Flickr is no longer available. We have removed the original link from the site as it makes no sense to keep it alive.

If you are looking for a Flickr downloader you should take a look at Flickr Download which you can use to download photos from Flickr. You can use the program to search for specific photos, download photos by users or by group. It is regularly updated to ensure compatibility with updates on Flickr.

Flickr AutoDownloadr

Tools

autodownloader

autodownloadr

flickr download manager

flickr downloader

flickr tools
<guid
