The same is true for websites where Flickr thumbnails or images are embedded on. Users who like to open full sized versions of those thumbnail images can now use a Greasemonkey script with the name Flickr Link Original Images for the Firefox web browser or other compatible web browsers that allows them to open full size images of Flickr photos directly from their thumbnails.

The script will display a small ORG overlay in the upper left corner of each thumbnail which is the clickable direct link to the full image on Flickr. This does not work on all thumbnails but on most. Not working thumbnails are for example those where the uploaders prohibited direct links.

A click on the ORG overlay will open the image in full size in a new tab in the web browser. Users might want to edit the allowed websites and pages of the userscript to add websites that they visit regularly where Flickr thumbnails get posted. The author of the script did include a handful of sites including Flickr obviously.

<span

You might want to add an entry like http://*.flickr.com/* to the list of allowed sites to include all pages on Flickr.

Vista Flickr Uploader

Software

Windows

flickr

flickr software

flickr tip

flickr tools

flickr uploader

image host
<guid

The software is supporting several operating systems and another tool made by a third party has to add features that the official uploader is not supporting to have any chance to being recognized at all.

Vista Flickr Uploader is a specifically designed Flickr image uploader for Windows Vista. It makes use of the Extensible Metadata Platform support of Windows Vista. The downside is that XMP is not supported yet by Flickr which means that the only distinguishable feature that the application is offering is not supported by Flickr.

It will however be interesting if Flickr is adding support for XMP in the future. Other than that the Vista Flickr Uploader is supporting the usual features of an uploader.

<span

Each image is shown as a thumbnail in the program window. Permissions can be set so that only a certain group can access the pictures and it is possible to select one of the existing sets to add the images to it.

Retrieve Original Size Of Any Flickr Photo

Online Services

The Web

flickr

flickr hacks

flickr tip

flickr tips

flickr tools
<guid

This can have the effect that the original size of the photo that has been uploaded to Flickr is not available for viewing and download.

The api on the other hand does not care about those restrictions and provides access to the original photo as well and that’s what the Get Flickr script over at Techroam is utilizing.

All the user needs to do is copy the Photo ID of the photo that he wants to view or download in full size from Flick and paste it into the Get Flickr script. The Photo ID is part of the url of every photo that is displayed on Flickr. It’s usually displayed after the flickr.com/photos/username/ part of the url.

The Get Flickr script computes the url of the original image and displays a link to it in the same window. The only way to prevent this from happening is if an uploader is marking his photos as private or if he converts them to the size that he wants them to show up before uploading the to Flickr.

Update: The original script to download blocked photos from the popular image hosting site Flickr is no longer available. We have removed the original link from the site as it makes no sense to keep it alive.

If you are looking for a Flickr downloader you should take a look at Flickr Download which you can use to download photos from Flickr. You can use the program to search for specific photos, download photos by users or by group. It is regularly updated to ensure compatibility with updates on Flickr.

How to avoid saving spaceball.gif at Flickr

Browsing

Firefox

Opera

flickr

flickr tip

spaceball.gif
<guid

Whenever you right-click the image to save it you do save spaceball.gif instead which is a 1×1 pixel image showing nothing at all. The same happens if you try to drag the image to your desktop or hard drive.

However, if a photo is show it can be saved. The easiest way to achieve this is by blocking spaceball.gif from being loaded when visiting Flickr. You can do this in Firefox if you have the Adblock extension installed. When you are viewing an image at Flickr that you can’t save because of the spaceball.gif overlay you do the following to block the overlay.

Hit CTRL + SHIFT + B to open the list of blockable items. Navigate to the entry with spaceball.gif at the end and choose to block this item by right-clicking it. This prevents that spaceball.gif is loaded so that you can save any items at Flickr by right-clicking it.

Opera has a similar function. Just go to Tools > Advanced > Blocked Content and click Add in the menu. Paste the url *flickr.com/images/spaceball.gif into the new entry and close the menu.

via <a
