Back then we liked the simplicity of the tool but disliked the fact that it would only run on Windows Vista or Windows 7. The developers have been hard at work to increase application compatibility. The result is a new version of the Flickr downloader that supports the popular Windows XP operating system as well.

The software program itself has not changed a lot though. The software developer has improved the algorithms in the background but not the user interface. The program displays the three buttons Search, User and Group to the user upon startup. All can be used to download photos from specific Flickr sections.

The first option (Search) performs a Flickr search for either a keyword or tag, the second (user) will display photos uploaded by a specific Flickr user while the third (group) will do the same for a Flickr group.

The photo preview page will display thumbnails of the photos that have been found in the Flickr search. Only five thumbnails will be displayed by default. This figure can be increased to a maximum of 500 thumbnails per page. Copyrighted images are displayed with a huge copyright watermark. These photos will not be downloaded by the program. A Creative Commons checkbox is available to only display photos that have been tagged with it.

Flickr Downloadr will then download all photos (even if the count exceed 100K) that are not copyright protected. The software program works fine and seems to be more reliable in this version.

Flickr Tools: Flickr Downloadr

Software

Windows

download photos

flickr

flickr download

flickr tools

photo host

photos

portable software

window software
<guid

This makes it attractive for software developers to produce Flickr Tools as they can reach a huge audience with them. Flickr Downloadr is a new software program to download photos of Flickr. The first version of the tool has been released recently with several feature disabled that have not been implemented yet.

As of now it is only possible to download photos from one specific user. Only photos that are not licensed with all rights reserved will be downloaded while the rest will be skipped. The Flickr tool only works under Windows Vista or Windows 7. It is on the other hand a small portable application that works great if you regularly download files from the photo hosting website.

The application will display the option to download photos by user, group or everyone with only the user option enabled. The next page will display a simple form that accepts a name as input. It will search Flickr for that username and display the photos as thumbnails on the next page of the software program. There are two additional options that only search the favorites or contacts of a person.

Options are provided on that page to change the number of thumbnails that are displayed at the same time. It is furthermore possible to navigate the photo collection. Copyrighted images are displayed with a C on the thumbnail. A click on the Next button will initiate the download of the photos to the local computer.

We have covered similar tools in the past that provide additional options. Those are Backup Flickr Accounts which is offering to pretty much download anything that is available on Flickr, the Firefox extension <a

Maybe you got a new computer or a new hard drive because the old hard drive crashed. Maybe you want to download all photos at your moms house to show them to her offline. Whatever it is there is no way to mass download or backup Flickr accounts from within the Flickr interface. Rich over at PCMenga discovered an easy way to create a backup of a Flickr account.

The software Downloadr is more than just a tool to backup Flickr accounts. It can perform a search for photos on Flickr using fulltext, users, tags, places, sets, dates, groups and favorites. It can display a maximum of 250 photos per page and download all selected photos at once.

Only Creative Commons photos are searched by default but that option can be disabled in the search form. The easiest way to backup Flickr accounts would be to enter the username and download all photos that are found. This is obviously only working if the user has made all photos publicly available. Private photos cannot be downloaded this way.

There is however another option to download all photos of a Flickr account. Downloadr comes with the means to authenticate a user. Once a user has been authenticated by providing his login details the function Complete Backup can be selected.

This option will download all photos from the authenticated Flickr account to the local computer. The pictures will be downloaded in one go and the program handles even large amounts of photos fine.

The download of the software program will download a file called updatr which has to be executed to download the rest of the program files. Downloadr itself is a portable software program requiring the Microsoft .net Framework.

Flikr Download

Browsing

Firefox

firefox add-ons

firefox-extensions

flickr

flickr download

flickr firefox

flickr image download

flikr
<guid

Many Flikr images are protected by a transparent image called spaceball.gif which is used as rudimentary means of protection. It is therefor not easy and comfortable to download Flikr images from the image host.

Enter Flickr Original. A currently experimental Firefox add-on that takes lots of the burden away from the process. It basically provides the means to download Flickr images by right-clicking on a thumbnail. If you visit Flickr you notice that thumbnails are located on the first page that you visit if you perform a search or browse images.

All that needs to be done is to right-click a thumbnail on Flickr and select the Download Original Flickr Image option in the context menu. A download dialog will open with the choice to save the full sized image on the computer’s hard drive. If multiple versions of the image are available then the largest image will be downloaded.

The second available option is to view the full sized image immediately on Flickr. The add-on is not working on all Flickr images. Images with disabled downloads and the flag ” all rights reserved” cannot be download this way. A error message will appear telling the user that the image is not available for download.

Oh, and before you ask. That typo is there on purpose.
