Usually a lot of options are displayed when right-clicking files or folders in Windows Explorer which makes it more complex than necessary to selected the needed options. A right-click on an archive for instance displays options to open the archive, extract the files, extract the contents in the current folder, extract the contents to a folder with the same name as the archive and to test the archive.

The same is true for creating new archives as options are displayed to add the files and folders to the archive, compress and email the selection, create a 7z or zip archive and compress and email the selection as a 7z or zip archive.

The entries that are displayed in Windows Explorer can be configured right in 7-Zip. A click on Tools > Options will open the 7-Zip configuration menu. Switching to Plugins and clicking on the options button will open the Windows Explorer integration options.

It is possible to remove the options that are not needed so that they do not appear in Windows Explorer in the menu.

The changes will be visible immediately in Windows Explorer. There are of course other ways of handling Windows Explorer context menu entries like the Windows Explorer Menu Editor or File Menu Tools.

You are free to create new folders, sub menus and separators and fill them with the content that FileMenu Tools offers. New options vary from the very useful Command Line From Here option which opens the command line window from the selected folder. You may also run a selected program with parameters (defrag or anti-virus for example) and perform many operations such as copy path, move to, advanced delete and advanced renamer.

Besides that you can edit the Send To dialog which I personally rarely use. You can disable current options and add new ones with ease. One application could be to move files to a special data folder once they have been downloaded and checked. There are certainly other and better options but this is just to show that adding new send to entries can be useful.

The best way would be to remove all unnecessary entries from the dialog and add new usefull entries. Doing that is really simple. You need to know the file extension of the file that you want to delete, if you are not sure create a new file of that type and you will see the extension. Let us remove the Microsoft Powerpoint entry from the new file menu as an example.
Click start, run, enter regedit and hit enter. Search for .ppt which is the extension for microsoft powerpoint application files. Backup the entry first selecting file and then export from the menu. If you delete something accidentaly you can recover it by importing the backup again. Locate the ShellNew and delete it after you created a backup. Deleting the ShellNew key removes the entry from the new file menu.

Repeat the above steps (backup the key, locate ShellNew, delete ShellNew) for all extensions that you do not use. Briefcase is a special case. It has no extension, locate Briefcase in the registry, it should be below all your extensions in the same in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Backup and delete the whol Briefcase entry to remove it from the file menu.

Adding files to the New menu:

Adding files to the new menu is really easy as well. You need to know the extension of the file that you want to add, let us use .htm as an example- Navigate to the .htm key and create a new key called ShellNew. Create a new String (REG_SZ)in the right area of ShellNew and name it Nullfile. This means that a file with zero bytes will be created whenever you choose to create a new .htm file from the context menu.
