That’s one of the maxims that I use daily to avoid running into troubles. That’s especially true for files and programs that I want to test and run on my system. Sometimes they come from untrustworthy sources, and even though I have antivirus installed I prefer to double-check those files to avoid a successful virus attack on my computer.

IObit Cloud is a new service by IObit that users can utilize to scan files for malicious code. The process itself is straightforward. It begins by selecting the file from the local hard drive. The service does not mention file size limitations but it seems to be that only files up to 20 Megabytes can be uploaded.

<img

The load on the server has been relatively low in the time of testing. All file scans started immediately which could change in the future.

<img

What’s missing? Frequently asked questions or usage instructions for information like file size or type limitations for instance, or a privacy policy so that users know how the files are handled by the service.

IObit Cloud is an alternative to other online antivirus file checkers, especially those that utilize only one antivirus engine as well.

The better option for most users is a multi-engine service such as Virustotal which offers a safer assessment of a file’s threat potention.

File Analysis

Software

Windows

analysis

File Analysis

file analyzer

forensic software

portable software

security-software

windows file analyzer

windows software

Windows File Analyzer is a file analysis software that can be used to various system specific files. The portable software can be executed from any location on the hard drive and is compatible with all Windows operating systems from Windows 95 to Windows Vista. It requires knowledge of the location of those system files to perform the file analysis and display the results for forensic analysis.

The main interface of Windows File Analyzer is driven by five buttons in the top toolbar that each open up a file browser window. The file analysis software can be used to analyse the following five files: index.dat, prefetch, thumbs.db , shortcuts and recycle bins. Not every Windows system makes use of all of those files as some functions like the thumbnail generation can be deactivated.

Windows File Analyzer will analyse the contents of the selected file and display the results in a table. The table will contain various information depending on the file that has been analyzed. Analyzing a thumbs.db file will for example display all the thumbnails that it contains while the analysis of the prefetch data will display information about the applications that are prefetched, the time the entry has been created and last used on the computer system.

<span

Multiple file analysis’ can be open at the same time. Each report can be printed in user friendly form for further analysis. Some knowledge is required to start a file analysis which might require research on the Internet to find out where the files that can be analyses are located on the computer system.
