We have covered already two articles explaining how to download music from Esnips before and our reader Venki posted a comment about a Greasemonkey script that would make it even more comfortable to download music from Esnips.

The previous method to download music from Esnips involved copying the url, running it through a script which would decrypt the url and pasting it back so that the mp3 file could be downloaded.

The Greasemonkey script makes everything much easier. All that needs to be done is to install the script which requires the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox. It should work on Google Chrome as well. After installation a Download link is shown on every link to a music file on the Esnips website. It is then just a matter of clicking on that link to download the music from Esnips to the computer. Take a look at the screenshots to get a visual understanding of the process.

The original Esnips website:

The Esnips website with the Esnips Greasemonkey script installed.

All that needs to be done is to install Greasemonkey and the Esnips Greasemonkey script afterwards. After that the download links become visible on the Esnips website.

Esnips is a popular file sharing and storing service that offers its members 5 Gigabytes of online storage space that can be used to host videos, pictures and audio files. The audio hosting comes with a music player that recently got updated having the result that Esnips music downloaders were not working anymore.

Esnips have added a referrer check to the music player which means that users can only download songs if they initiate the download with the correct referrer. The process of downloading files from Esnips is therefor extended by one step.

Most steps stay the same on the other hand. The user visits the Esnips website and opens a page that contains a music file that is played in the Esnips player or perform a search and copy the links pointing to the music files to the clipboard. The url of that page is copied into an Esnips download link generator which converts the encrypted download link to the unencrypted one. The step that has changed is the last one. Instead of downloading the music from Esnips directly or pasting it into a download manager the user has to paste the unencrypted url back into the web browser to be able to download it. That is an inconvenience but still better than not being able to download the music from Esnips at all.

Step 1: Visit Esnips

Step 2: Copy Link URL

Right-click a link and copy it to the clipboard or copy the link from the address bar

Step 3: Paste the link and convert it

Now visit a script that can convert Esnips links so that they point to the correct url that can be used to download the mp3 files from Esnips. One script that can do it is Zuhaib’s Esnips Link Generator.

Step 4: Download

Copy the Download Link and Paste it back into a browser tab. The download for the correct mp3 file should pop up immediately.

The file hosting website eSnips provides access to various communities that have been created for users with the same interests. You find communities about art and fun but also music. The music community is divided into communities for different music genres like rock, metal or rap.

Each music community offers a large amount of music tracks that can be played online in an embedded player. Some music tracks can be downloaded directly because the user who uploaded the track allowed that option. Other songs on the other hand can only be played in the embedded player.

There are however a few options to download those songs from eSnips as well. The first software that I try out for any kind of streaming service is Orbit Downloader and it’s grab++ link grabber.

Orbit Downloader seems to have problems downloading songs from eSnips currently. I was not able to download the full songs, only 50K of the song which is obviously not enough.

The second option is a web downloader that converts the eSnips page where the music is embedded to the download url of the song. That works surprisingly well. One of the few scripts that can do that is the called eSnips Download.

Just enter the url of the website where the song is currently playing and hit the Get Download Link button to receive the url to the song. Another click downloads that song directly to the computer.
