The usenet provider Giganews announced today that they would increase the retention of all binary newsgroups to 100 days over the next two weeks. If you never have heard about the usenet before let me explain the concept with just a few words. The usenet can be divided into binary and discussion groups. Thousands of binary groups for every purpose, from mp3 to movie to games exist and every user who has usenet access is able to download all the files that get posted to the usenet daily.

The war between Blue-Ray and HD-DVD is still in the beginning which frustrates the consumers. One nail in the Blue-Ray coffin might have been added today by a guy who managed to hack the HD-DVD encryption. Being able to backup the expensive HD-DVD movies could win the format war. Freenigma offers a free firefox extension that adds cryptography functionality to Yahoo, Gmail and MSN. The team says it is working on adding other emails services, as of now, only the three services mentioned are supported. You have to signup at their website to recieve an invitation before you will be able to download the extension. They state that it could take a few hours the most before you recieve the invitation. Mine arrived about ten minutes after I completed it.

Cipher Gui is a very small and compact freeware utility that overwrites every deleted
file three times and prevents in that way any recovery of them. All parts of the partition not assigned to a file are being overwritten three times, in order to prevent any recovery of already deleted files.
