Some act as servers, for example file servers and one of them is being used as a download server. It makes perfectly sense to let another server handle the downloads from P2P networks like Bittorrent or eDonkey to avoid slow downs on other computers.

He is using the program P2P Transfer to transfer torrents and hashes from all of his computers in the network to his download server. The advantage of P2P Transfer is the encrypted transfer of the files and that the files do not have to be copied manually or that a login session with the download server is required to load the new files and start the transfers.

Supported are ED2K,torrent and magnet currently. P2P Transfer can install a server and client application. The server application will be installed on the download server. A password has to be selected during installation which will later be used by the clients to authenticate themselves.

The clients need the IP address of the server and the password to be able to transfer files to the server. Do not confuse the server with the application that will download the torrents or eDonkey files. Several Bittorrent applications can automatically load torrents that are saved in a specified folder, uTorrent has that option for instance.

P2P only transfers the torrents or hashes from multiple computers to a download server where they are processed by other applications.

Media Defender email leak

Security

The Web

bittorrent

emule

media defender

movie industry

Music Industry

P2p
<guid

Mails give in depth information about tactics that have been used to spread fake releases, fake edonkey servers and their opinion about several bittorrent clients.

Several bittorrent sites have already removed all fake releases that have been spread by Media Defender and are currently banning fake trackers and all other traces of Media Defender influence which is huge if you allow me this opinion. More than 5000 fake torrents have been removed from sites such as Mininova by now.

It is really interesting to see how the Music and Movie Industry are spreading fake releases and undermine servers with the help of Mediadefender. It should take some time until they are able to recover from this serious blow. They will of course get new IPs, new servers and begin their foul play anew.

If you are interested in the emails files you can take a look at any of the big torrent sites such as the pirate bay to download it. It has a size of around 120 Megabytes and can be imported into any email client. Just move the file into your profile Mail \ Local Folders if you use Thunderbird for instance.

There are many information and it surely takes some time until all has been analyzed, there is probably more that will be discovered.

Move new files automatically into another directory

Operating Systems

P2p

Tools

Windows

edonkey

emule

file warper

kazaa

move files automatically
<guid

Let me explain the various settings, don’t worry, it is not much.

You can add new folders that you want to observe by clicking on the button Hinzufügen. Just browse to a folder that you want to add and select Wählen to add it. The default dir where the files are moved is C:\Program Files\FileWarper\data\ – you probably want to change that dir to another one, just click and enter another dir.

<span

You can change that figure easily. The * entry means that all files that are in that folder are moved to another directory and the *.dat excludes files with the .dat extension from being moved.

It is possible to move only *.jpg for instance or *.mp3 or add more extensions that should be excluded.

Japanese P2P Trojan deletes Files

P2p

Security

emule

p2p trojan

torrent

trojan

virus
<guid

When executed the Trojan displays manga-like images with a reminder which differs depending on which image is displayed. The text however looks similar and always asks the user to stop using P2P networks. One of the messages for instance reads “”Ah, I see you are using P2P again…if you don’t stop in 0.5 seconds, I’m going to kill you.” Talk about a threat boy, jeeze.”

This however is not the real danger of this Trojan. While the Trojan displays the message and plays a song it is deleting files in the background. It apparently targets many important files types such as exe, bat, xls, mp3 and mbx. This could mean that it deletes your mailbox, some important excel spreadsheets and executables that are needed to run the system at all.

It was first suspected that a copyright holder was responsible for the creation and spreading of the Trojan but I think this theory is highly unlikely. I’m not familiar with Japanese laws but I don’t think it would be ok to fight fire with fire in the land of the rising sun.

The Trojan seems to be clearly targeted at certain user groups which is a fair assumption if you consider the looks and feels of it.

Users should be aware that it is always dangerous to run unknown programs even with an up to date firewall and antivirus solution. It is always better to stop the urge to run a program and be on the safe side than to run it and face consequences like deleted files.
<p

It basically reminds me of those leecher mods for emule that have been popular a few years ago. Bitthief accomplishes this by reducing the upload speed to 0. The developer of Bitthief, the Distributed Computing Group at ETH Zurich puts it this way:

“We developed a BitTorrent client that free rides on BitTorrent, that is, it downloads from BitTorrent swarms without contributing any resources itself which illustrated that the BitTorrent protocol currently fails to prevent uncooperative behavior as it does not provide any countermeasures against free riding clients.”

It seems that Bitthief does not only prevent fair sharing but also spies on the users that use the client. Torrentfreak that Bitthief is currently collecting “the torrent hash, total size of the download, the current version of the client, total number of pieces available, and the size of these pieces” which can be clearly linked to the users IP address making it very easy to idenfity all activity of a certain user.

Everyone who is thinking about using Bitthief should be really cautious and consider this before using it. No one knows at this time why the developers are collecting the data which should make everyone at least suspicious.

My first experience with Relakks

Security

anonymous

bittorrent

emule

internet

relakks
<guid

I had to provide only some information like name, email, password and username and was able to log on to their system. My status was inactive at that time because I did not make a purchase yet. I decided to try the service for one month and had to provide my credit card details in order to do so. One month would cost 6$ which is a good price if they live up to their promises which are a) anonymous internet experience and b) maximum speed.

Setting up the service was pretty easy as well on my windows xp system. I only had to create a new VPN connection entering the details they provided on their website and was free to connect to their system with the username and password I entered when I registered my account with them. My first try was to check on the IP address that I was surfing with and it differed from the usual ones I was using. A quick ip look up revealed that the IP belonged to Arabic Computer System Co. which seems kinda strange to me.

I had no means to investigate this further because the service is currently really slow. They announced at their website that more users than expected signed up for the service and that everything is slower than expected. They are trying to fix the matter. Will keep you updated on this.

Talking about anonymity. Someone pointed out that the service does not mean true anonymity and I can only agree to that. Relakks does know what you are doing which means every law enforcement agency with a search warrant will still be able to retrieve your ip and actions and trace it back to you. I don´t think that this is a big problem at the moment unless you are the kind of person who is committing heavy crimes on the internet.

Free Music List December 2005

Music and Video

Music Industry

download-mp3

emule

free

free-music

legal mp3

legal music

music

torrent
<guid

In this article I added some good sites that offered free music downloads. Lots of people replied to this article and added more sites that they used to get free music. Free, meaning free of charges and free to download without breaking the law.

I think that this is a good way to listen to great music for free, support the artists that contribute their music and show the music industry that there are other methods to distribute than forcing the customer to buy copy protected, rootkit infested overpriced music cds.

Update: I published a new updated list that can is named Today I decided to compile a big list of free music sites on the internet, I hope you enjoy this selection.

I encourage everyone to add his site to the list and give a rough intro to it. The list does not contain internet radio stations or streaming services, only sites that allow downloads in mp3 format (its fine if they offer additional streaming services) . I made an exception to sites that offer a huge list of streaming titles, those have been added as well.

<tr
