Now-a-days email systems provide more features than just transferring messages or simple notes. Many government and non-government agencies, small and large businesses, use email systems and associated backup files as a critical hub of information. Email systems and other such communication systems are used to transfer and backup a wide range of material such as contracts and related documents, financial and planning records, HR records, and even Intellectual Property files such as designs, plans and so on. And most of this data is kept in electronic form as backup and accessed or printed whenever needed. One such email archiving product is offered by Cryoserver.

Cryoserver’s email archiving software offers protection of messages by retrieving lost or historical emails and automatic storage transfer of messages to the archive from email servers. In addition to this it provides rapid search of emails reducing the time to locate emails, scalable and extensible storage to accommodate a company’s rising email capacity, reduced cost of administration as compared to other storage, replication and mirroring of emails to provide disaster recovery of data, large email processing capability to process emails of virtually unlimited size, as well as seamless and hassle free access to the archived data for every user.

Email Archiving Benefits

Rapid retrieval of historical or lost emails.

Basic and advanced searching of the archive, reducing the time to locate emails.

Import and Export of emails to and from the archive allowing migration and email recovery.

Scalable, extensible storage solutions accommodating the business email capacity as it rises.

Reduced administration cost associated with dependence on tape storage.

Mirroring and auto-replication of emails providing disaster recovery for email data.

Large email processing capability allowing emails of virtually unlimited size to be processed – providing flexibility and assurance of smooth email data capture.

Seamless access via LDAP/Active directory integration – providing simple, hassle free automatic access to the archive for individual users.

Privileged, audited searches protected through our unique data guardian ‘auditing’ technique.

Cryoserver recently announced that its archiving solution is available through two different methods such as an email archiving application, i.e. an email archiving software, or as a service hosted on a cloud. The requirements and utilization of each method vary from organization to organization.

Email archive hosted on the cloud: Here the emails are archived on the cloud and all the data is stored on the data center. This option provides an extra layer of backup and security, without incurring any extra costs of maintaining and administering the archive “in-house”.

Email archive deployed on the client side as an appliance or software: Here the email archiving software is hosted and administered by the clients. This option requires the organization deploying the email archive to have an experienced staff for installing and maintaining the servers and software. Though Cryoserver offers a plug and play appliance, which can be helpful in installing the application, maintaining the application is a concern.

The expenses may vary for different organizations according to the amount of users and email messages. A cloud based archive can be helpful to small business organizations and the application can be cost effective for long term use. Cryoserver offers assistance in finding a solution that suits an organization’s needs. Also there are migrating options by which an organization can change there preference over time to suit their needs.

Both delivery methods offer similar solutions but the use and its effectiveness may vary for different organizations. It is necessary for an organization to access its requirements and resources to find out which method can be most profitable to them.

Customize The Email Archive In Thunderbird 3

Email

email archive

message archive options

thunderbird

thunderbird add-on
<guid

One of these new features is the email archive which can be used to store emails in specific folders in the folder structure. Emails that are archived will be moved from their original folder into the archive folder. The default button to move emails into the archive is [a]. The archive will be divided by years only by default which could be problematic for accounts that receive many emails on a regular basis.

The only available option to customize the archive is the advanced config editor which makes it possible to change the archiving granularity, names and other settings. The Thunderbird 3 add-on Message Archive Options is basically a frontend for the advanced config options.

<span

The first allows the Thunderbird user to customize the granularity of the archiving function in Thunderbird. It is first and foremost possible to switch from the one folder per year structure to either to a single folder structure or one with months as the additional levels. The date format for the year and year – month structure can be altered as well.

The second option is to add a key modifier to the archiving shortcut. It is possible to add Alt, Shift or Control to [a] to archive the selected email messages.

Message Archive Options does not invent the wheel anew but it offers easier access to customizing the email archive in Thunderbird 3. The add-on is only compatible with Thunderbird 3 and <a
