The guys that run the site and code for it are a friendly bunch, and services like the option to get a custom program coded in hours are rare on today’s Internet. The team made the decision to run the site purely with donations instead of advertisements.

They have recently switched servers to keep up with the growing demands, not only because their software has become popular in recent years, but also because of the growing community and project hosting opportunities.

Jesse just mailed be that they are holding a fundraiser throughout March to raise enough money to keep the website and services going. The goal is to get at least $6000 for the year to come to cover server costs and other expenses that are website or Donationcoder related.

<a

Jesse let me know that it is not just money that users can donate, they accept all kind of things, from gold bars to oil paintings, knitted cat socks to postcards with words of support.

Even better, every donator is included in a drawing at the end of the month with the chance to win some very interesting, and unique, prices. This includes software, hardware and a unique opportunity to get free coding time from Jesse, and maybe some other Donationcoder programmers. The winner could ask the guys to create a custom software (for which he will receive all rights), or improve an existing Donation Coder application.

I suggest you take a look at the fundraising site over at Donation Coder. Even if you do not or can’t donate you can give the guys support that they need and deserve.

Donation Coder Fundraiser

The Web

donation coder fundraiser

donation-coder

donations

mouser

Software
<guid

Not only because I have a long standing relationship with several of its members but also because it is taking an approach that most other sites on the Internet does not take. Instead of relying on online advertisement to fund their projects they rely on donations from their community. Those donations are put into good use to pay for the server costs, websites and also some of the regular goodies that they throw at their users and members.

The last fundraiser was more than two years ago and they started a new round just yesterday asking their members and friends for donations that they can spare. There are quite a few reasons why I like the Donation Coder. They do produce some fantastic programs that I use on a daily basis. But the software is only one aspect of the website. If you ever participated in their forum you might have realized how helpful they are. Just post an idea about a new software program and watch what happens. It is not seldom that you get a working piece of code after a few hours that does exactly what you wanted.

If you look at the Donation page you notice that they want to raise a total of $8000 and are currently stuck at $899. It would not be the Donation Coder site if they would not have come up with a crazy chart that is suggesting a donation amount based on the annual income and the love of the site.

I personally have not donated before (shame on me) and I figured that I should do so before even starting this article. I suggest you do the same if you like Donation Coder software and have a few bucks to spare. It’s money well spend. Rock on!
