There are literally hundreds of websites that explain how to change the look and feel of Windows XP so that it resembles a Windows Vista Theme but only a handful that tell you how to use and install the Windows Vista Aero cursor set in Windows XP.

The easiest way to install the Windows Vista Aero cursor set in Windows XP is to simply download a specially prepared package that comes with an installer. All that needs to be done to install the cursor package is to right-click the Install.inf file that comes with the package and choose the install option from the context menu.

The cursor package will be installed in Windows XP and can then be selected in the Control Panel as the main cursor scheme for Windows XP. The correct path is Control Panel > Mouse and a click on the Pointers tab in that window.

The Aero cursor scheme should show up in the menu as Aero Cursors (Alphablended). A selection of that cursor scheme and a click on the Apply button will activate the cursor scheme in Windows XP. The cursor scheme has been tested in Windows XP SP3 English and found to be working fine. It should work with other language editions of Windows XP as well.

Update: Windows XP and Windows Vista users can download the Windows 7 cursor scheme to their computer systems. The mouse cursor pack is offered on the developer’s Deviant Art page. Installation is handled exactly in the same way. Extract the contents of the package to your system, right-click tine install.rdf file and select the installation option to install the new cursors in the operating system. The scheme appears as Windows 7 mouse cursors in the configuration panel.

Vippy a writer friendly cursor

Tools

cursor

cursor replacement

Software

vippy

Windows
<guid

I´am writing a lot of articles as you all know and I find it sometimes hard to locate the cursor in my articles, especially when it is late in the evening and I´am tired. Vippy is a small utility that does only one thing: It changes the color of the cursor to red. Take a look at the image to see the difference. The great thing about vippy is that it should work in nearly all windows applications including Microsoft Word and Open Office.

As you can cleary see on the image to the left the top cursor is rather hard to locate while the red cursor in the second text is way easier to spot. After installing the only 50K freeware you see the current active cursor which is the windows default cursor. You can change this cursor into a small, medium or large custom red cursor which additionally can be displayed in bold.

I changed mine to medium and bold and it is working like a charm. The red cursor will be activated when you hover your mouse over text. Which means that the blinking cursor at the end of the current letter is still black.

I´ve tested it so far in firefox, microsoft word, opera and notepad. It did change the cursor in all programs but Opera to the red cursor. Let me know if you find this one helpful or a waste of time..
