All websites and services that had been open in tabs are reopened on the next browser start. It sometimes happens that Google Chrome cannot open a website, displaying a dreaded “Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to” error instead.

Strange if the site was working fine some time ago. Users who check the website in another browser installed on the system would find out that the page loads and displays fine in that browser which leads to the only possible conclusion that it is a Google Chrome problem.

oops google chrome could not connect to

The majority of page loading problems are a result of the DNS Fetching in Google Chrome. DNS Pre-fetching stores information in the browser to speed up the loading of websites in Chrome. It can, under certain circumstances, result in connection problems. This can happen if a wrong or outdated DNS is stored in the browser for the website in question.

DNS Fetching speeds up page loading by about 250ms. Chrome users who experience connection difficulties regularly might want to try turning the feature off to see if it resolves the issues.

This is done in the Chrome options. A click on the Wrench icon in the upper right corner and the selection of Options opens the settings window of the web browser.
<div

Remove the checkmark from that setting to disable DNS fetching in the browser. Many users come into contact with Winsock after experiencing connection problems that are usually related to Winsock. The connection problems come in a wide variety and include losing network connections, dns lookup problems, websites becoming unavailable, limited network connections plus many more.

There are several reasons for these network issues including computer crashes, installation of networking software or malicious software attacks that tampered with network settings and Winsock. A corrupt Winsock can therefor lead to all kinds of networking troubles which are difficulty to analyze and understand for the inexperienced user.

<span

That’s obviously more comfortable than having to fix the errors manually.

Winsock Repair is a portable software program for the Windows operating system that has two primary functions. The first is to reset the TCP/IP stack which will rewrite important Windows Registry keys with their default values. The second will try to repair Winsock so that the network connectivity issues are a thing of the past. It does provide an option to list the installed LSPs (Layered Service Providers) which can be important as pre-installed LSPs might need to be reinstalled after fixing the Winsock errors.

LSP Fix is an alternative to Winsock Repair. It makes it easier to deal with LSP related problems as it will list all of them in its interface with the option to remove only selected ones from the computer system.

Traceroute From Multiple Locations

Online Services

connection problems

network

terminal

traceroute

tracert

Just Traceroute (via Digital Inspiration) takes this a step further by issuing a traceroute command from multiple locations in the world. Different locations, especially when they are from different parts of the world, use different “ways” to reach their target which could give additional information about the cause of the connection problem.

The services is using servers located in the United States, Netherlands, Australia and Singapore to run the traceroute command.

<span

The very same window offers a way to copy the all four traceroutes to the clipboard directly.
