Antivirus software that cleans the virus may sometimes fail to cleanup the system properly. It can happen that Windows features are still not accessible even after the virus has been removed from the computer system.

That’s where tools like Re-Enable aid the user. The software program offers to activate Windows features like Regedit, Windows Task Manager, System Restore, MsConfig or the Control Panel after a virus attack.

It displays all features in the main interface upon startup. Some or all of the apps and functions can be selected for fixing.

It is sometimes impossible to fix the damage done to the system which means that in those cases only backups or new installations are an option. But most changes are not as severe. They can be fixed either by the antivirus software cleaning the malicious program or by a third party tool like Virus Effect Remover.

We have reviewed Virus Effect Remover in the past but it has evolved since then which is reason enough to take a new look at it.

The program provides the user with many useful information about the operating system and controls to repair some of the damage that has been done by a computer virus.

The Open Source software can aid the user in removing effects from the Windows file system and the Windows Registry. One of the main functions of it is that it can re-enable access to the Windows Taskmanager, Registry Editor, MSconfig and the Process List.

Other options include process details that can be used to kill any running process including files that are currently in use by it. These processes and files can be added to a blacklist so that they will not be executed anymore even if they try to do so automatically.

The program provides additional options to create or restore a Registry backup, check system files and to repair AutoRun options.

The computer virus protection program becomes available after installation. It protects the computer by running in the background and by providing the means to scan a file or folder for malicious code.

The current release of Quttera is available in version 0.2.1.0.34 which indicates that this is more of a work in progress instead of a release version. The developers see their computer virus protection software as a addition to standard virus protection programs.

Users who want to perform a manual scan should make sure to have at least one multimedia file or data file in the folder. The scan will jam if no files are found in the selected folder.

The main question is obviously if Quttera is able to deliver what it promises. It really depends on the quality of the heuristic engine and how it compares to the heuristic engine of the regular antivirus software.

It is however highly suggested to use a security software that is updated regularly, like Avast Antivirus for instance.
