All text that you copy to the clipboard is saved automatically by the program, so that you can access each entry for as long as the program is up and running. You can paste a saved entry easily by selecting it first with the left-mouse button or cursor keys in the program interface, and then using the shortcut Ctrl-v to paste it into another application. Even better, you can copy multiple saved clips to paste them all at once into another application.

This is done by selecting multiple clips in the Clipboard Magic interface, selecting Edit > Copy all clips to the clipboard (or alternatively Shift-Ctrl-A), and then pasting the contents directly via Ctrl-V or the mouse.

All major program features are accessible both via menus and the mouse, and keyboard shortcuts. The program supports two special pasting shortcuts. You can use Shift-Ctrl-[0-9] to paste the last ten saved entries directly without selection. The shortcut Shift-Ctrl-P allows series pasting. The shortcut may interfere with other programs like Firefox (where it launches private browsing mode). You can change both keyboard shortcuts in the program options.

Clipboard Magic users can furthermore edit saved clipboard items, add items manually to the program, and use the programs find and replace feature to modify contents right in the program interface. Entries can be edited with a simple double-click on the entry’s line in the program window. You can leave the editing window again with a click on View > Zoom out or the shortcut Ctrl-PageDown.

Clip lists can be saved in a native format or as text documents. Both can be loaded into the program again at a later time.

The program preferences offer extensive configuration options. From changing shortcuts to configuring auto saves, visible toolbar buttons, to the number of rows and the font face used in the program window. You can furthermore load the last used list on program start automatically.

Clipboard Magic is fully Unicode compatible. It is compatible with all versions of the Windows operating system from Windows ME up to the latest version (currently Windows 7). Interested users can download the latest program version from the developer website.

Clipboard Help+Spell is a Donation Coder application. This means that it is free for personal use and well designed. The program might intimidate inexperienced users as it offers a wealth of features and options.

The basics however remain the same. Windows users can still use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v, or the right-click menu items, to copy and paste items to the clipboard. Clipboard Help+Spell remembers all items that get copied to the Clipboard, unlike the Windows Clipboard which flushes out the old entry once a new is stored.

The new shortcut Ctrl-Alt-q displays a selection menu to paste a previous clipboard entry into the current application.

The last items saved to the clipboard are displayed on top. But Clipboard Help+Spell does not stop there. Lets take a look at the other options of the menu.

• Favorite Clips – It is possible to create permanent entries, like contact information, signature or a sentence that are often used.
• Time / Date TextClips – Paste various time and date formats into the active application
• Stack Operations – The stack system can be used to copy multiple items to one stack, to paste them at once after the copy operation into another application.
• Formatting Presets – Change the text formatting, for instance dashes to tabs or trim line break.
• All Clips – Displays all clipboard entries.

The main program window is customizable. It displays a tree structure on the left side, the selected contents on the right and a log at the bottom.

Here it is possible to modify specific clipboard entries. The entries can be modified manually which works the same way as in a plain text editor like Notepad. There are also options to spell check or change the format or case of the selected text.

New entries can be created in all available groups, for instance in the favorites which become then permanently available in the selection menu.

A search filter at the bottom can be used to find specific entries quickly. Other options include deleting clips or sending them to the printer.

Clipboard Help and Spell supports Virtual Folders. Two are configured by default with options to add custom ones to the mix. The program will automatically put all web addresses and images into those two virtual folders, completely independent from the actual clipboard entry.

This is great if you want to look-up an url quickly without going through all clipboard items to find it. Virtual folders tap right into the program database. The help file offers some configuration instructions.

The program ships with loads of options. From configuring different hotkeys to trigger the clipboard functionality over backup and maintenance to the layout and design of the Quick Paste menu.

Clipboard Help+Spell is a well designed clipboard manager for the Windows operating system. Interested users can download it from the program page over at the Donation Coder website. The software supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the operating system.

There is a video tutorial available which explains the basics and advanced features.

To download, swing by this website and grab it, but be prepared: Spartan features an utterly antique install interface. Do not worry – it has absolutely nothing to do with the program itself. Just enjoy feeling like your running Windows 95 for a moment.

Starting up the program greets you with a blank matrix of cells with 25 yellow cells in the left column and 25 white on the right. As you start copying things you will find that they all seem to appear on the left. This area is the temporary clipboard, the one just like everyone has, albeit a slightly extended one.

Now before you do anything else you need to know that, by default, the program makes a really annoying dinging sound every time you add something to the clipboard. If you are ok with this then feel free to read forward, but if it drives you crazy go to Tools > Options (General) and find the little box that says Sound when new clips are captured. Uncheck that box or suffer from the most obnoxious dinging sound ever.

Go ahead and load a few items into Spartan simply by copying a bunch of sections of text or images. Nothing has changed here – do it just like you normally would. Once you have a selection of items to play with, experiment a bit to better understand how the program works. Spartan automatically saves anything you leave in the right column, making it available until you either tell it to forget it or you uninstall the program. You can see this by dragging one or two items into the right column, completely exiting the program, and then opening it back up. You may notice that it saved the items on the left as well – these stay intact until you replace them with new items, and Spartan drops off old items to make room for new ones once you have reached your limit of 25. Also notice that as you mouse over images in the Spartan matrix, previews of those images appear in a small window that disappears as you move your mouse away, allowing for quick and easy identification between similarly titled images.

When you actually want to use one of the objects further back in your clipboard simply leave the cursor where you want the item to appear and then click on the field containing that item in Spartan. It appears just as would a normal clipboard item and leaves you ready to go.

Some people will likely find the program too similar to the standard clipboard to find it worth the download. Others, however, will see value in the quirks provided through Spartan and will boost their productivity through it. If you are on the fence, you might just want to give it a try – it can be surprisingly helpful.

Spartan Lite is offered as a free and portable version. The commercial version of the clipboard manager can store more clipboard entries than the lite version, but that seems to be the only difference.

ClipCube is a lightweight portable clipboard manager for Windows that can store clipboard text for later usage. It basically saves all text clipboard entries and makes them available in its interface.

The program sits quietly in the Windows system tray for most of them time. A click on the program icon opens the program window showing all entries with the latest additions at the top of the application window.

The program goes back into hiding once another window is activated, a click on the “on top” icon in the header prevents this. Items stored in the program can be copied with the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-C after selecting them or by right-clicking and selecting the option from the context menu.

Internet addresses are recognized as well and it is possible to open the sites with a right-click and the selection of Go to Address. Timestamps are supported as well as grid lines and fixed width fonts for better readability.

Individual items or all items can be deleted either from the context menu in the program window, or the system tray right-click context menu. Here it is possible to delete all entries, select the retention of saved Clipboard items (indefinitely, until exit, for a week or month) and configure the program to launch on Windows startup.

ClipCube is a handy Clipboard history program. It is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system. (via)

7plus adds many features to Windows that improve the workflow on the system. This ranges from adding tabs to the default file browser Windows Explorer, hotkeys to launch applications and navigate more comfortable in Explorer or the application launcher Accessor which can launch local files, Internet sites and searches on the Internet.

7plus offers to launch its extensive configuration menu on first start which may look overwhelming to some users. The sidebar lists the features, the main pane the configuration options of it.

Everything is highly configurable. It is for instance possible to disable hotkeys that are not needed, add new ones to the system or edit them to assign different hotkeys to them.

Interested users should take a look at the full feature list over at the developer website at Google Code.

Below is a personal selection of features:

• Paste text or image from clipboard as file
• Kill programs by pressing ALT+F5 or right clicking the close button
• Open current folder in CMD by pressing WIN+C and enable CTRL+V to paste and ALT+F4 in CMD
• Upload files, screenshots and clipboard content directly to an FTP server with just one hotkey
• Accessor tool that acts as a launcher similar to programs like Launchy or Exekutor
• Create customizable, context-sensitive hotkeys

7plus requires time to get used to. It is probably a good start to take the ten minutes to look at all the options in the configuration menu. You may want to write down some that you intend to use or remember the configuration hotkey (Win-H) to look them up again.

7plus 2.2.0 is available for 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows at the project homepage.

More than three years have passed since this initial review and a lot has changed in that time. Phrase Express 8 is still available as a (limited) free version that offers the following functionality:

• Organize frequently used text snippets.
• Expand abbreviations as you type.
• Launch programs with text shortcuts.
• Auto-complete repetitive phrases.
• Quick access to the Windows Clipboard History.
• Correct spelling mistakes in any applications

Phrase Express users will notice the changes right away. Especially the new system-wide spelling correction and new TypoLearn feature need some explanation.

Phrase Express 8 can correct spelling mistakes in all applications on the computer system. The spelling correction in previous versions was limited to select programs.

Even better is the new TypoLearn feature which will automatically detect common typos of the user. The module learns from the corrections and will add the typo and correction to its database to offer the use the corrected item right away when a typo is made.

Another interesting feature is the ability to launch applications from within any text field. Applications are added to the list of supported programs with a right-click and the selection of Open With Phrase Express. They are from that moment on available for text launching

Phrase Express can import existing Microsoft Word AutoCorrect entries so that they can be used in any program, not just in Microsoft Office applications.

Users can add custom spelling corrections and auto-text entries to expand abbreviations automatically.

Phrase Express can remember all Windows Clipboard items and optionally remove text formatting from entries stored in the clipboard.

While it has been primarily been designed for use with text phrases and words, it can also be used for web development purposes and coding to auto complete and fill often used coding snippets.

Clipple is a clipboard manager for the Firefox web browser. This means that it will only work for as long as Firefox is open. It does however capture new clipboard entries even if they are created in other applications and not in Firefox. It was for instance no problem to copy text in the email client Thunderbird which appeared in the selection list of Clipple in Firefox immediately.

The main difference is the pasting that can only be done in Firefox and not in other applications. Handy for users who work all the time with Firefox and do not need an extended clipboard manager.

The items that can be pasted are accessible from the right-click menu whenever the mouse is placed in a web form or form in the Firefox browser. Clipple stores up to 15 different items with no text size limitation by default. Those values can be changed to increase or decrease the number of items that are stored in the clipboard and to limit the maximum length of text that can be stored.

Sessions are saved by default which means that the copied items are available on the next start of the web browser even if the system was rebooted in the meantime. The last option ignores passwords that are copied to the clipboard.

There are no keyboard shortcuts available to speed up the process for users who like to work with the keyboard. The only option is a function that can be used in keyboard add-ons like keyconfig or vimperator.

Clipple is a very helpful add-on for users who need the functionality of an extended clipboard manager in Firefox and that do not use a desktop clipboard manager. The Firefox add-on is compatible with all Firefox 3.x versions. It can be downloaded from the Mozilla Firefox website.

The software program will monitor the Windows clipboard by default and memorize any contents that are copied by the user. Contents that have been copied are displayed in the program’s interface. The length of text and the type of the contents are displayed there with a handy preview feature to preview image or text right in the interface. Images can also be zoomed in case they had to be resized to fit in the interface.

The copied contents in the interface can be saved so that they are available after a restart of the program. That’s handy for entries that need to be copied frequently. The settings contain two handy options to convert rft and html text that is copied to the clipboard manager. These are disabled by default but can be activated so that these formats get converted automatically. Good for uses who do not want to include html or rtf formatting when pasting contents they previously copied.

Contents that are stored in the clipboard manager can either be pasted by left-clicking on them and using the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl V], right-clicking the mouse button and selecting Paste or dragging and dropping them from the PasteCopy interface into another application.

PasteCopy is a small Windows clipboard manager that offers some interesting features. An option to use keyboard shortcuts for pasting various clipboard entries would be a good addition to the program though. The software program is compatible with most Windows operating systems including Windows 7. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website.

The xNeat Clipboard Manager comes with a shiny modern looking interface with neat looking rounded buttons but basically provides the same functionality than Clipomatic. It stores additional entries in the clipboard, the default value is ten just like the value that Clipomatic uses. This value can be changed in the program’s options which are available in the main interface.

The original functionality remains the same meaning that users can still copy and paste one item with the usual CTRL C and CTRL V shortcuts. The additional clipboard entries can be opened with CTRL Shift V which will open a small menu displaying the latest entries to the clipboard.

The user can use the arrow keys and enter to select on entry that should be pasted or use the mouse to select one. It is rather surprisingly that this Clipboard Manager is only using about 1.5 Megabytes of computer memory when the interface window is open and only 300 Kilobytes when it is minimized in the system tray.
