Orbit provides a circle based menu for Windows

Short question to get this article started: What is the main advantage of a circle based menu when compared to the usual rectangular menus in Windows ? Right, every menu entry is the same distance away from the mouse pointer. It looks nicer as well but that’s just a cosmetic difference.

Launchy 2.0

One of the most popular application launchers for Windows has been updated to version 2 yesterday and I think that this is an appropriate moment to see what has changed since my first review of Launchy which dates way back. First time users of Launchy who happen to not read the instructions might be a bit puzzled at first because even though Launchy is started after installing it it is not visible on the system.

Forget the Windows Start Menu Use Toolbox instead.

The Windows start menu is not really excellent when you want to find something fast. It always takes some clicks to reach the destination – be it a program, the control panel or a drive that is connected to your computer. Toolbox was designed as a application launcher that makes it easier to access drives, folders and applications in Windows. It uses an intuitive way to display toolboxes that contain links to everything that you can think off. You can link to drives and display their size, launch applications with one click and open folders with another. Access to those elements can’t be faster in Windows.

Start your favorite applications with one click

Microsoft Groupbar is a freeware application for windows xp that offers an enhanced window management capability. Groupbar does not need to be installed, just download the file and start GroupBar.exe. The tool automatically appears as a sidebar on the left of your screen but can be placed in the other three corners as well. The sidebar displays all running applications, you are free to sort them anyway you like.
