Alright, it is barely past the start of the week and it looks like we have quite a few phone related tings to talk about. There’s a new Android phone that is shivering the in cold Russia right now (awww). T-Mobile confirms all rumors by revealing its Project Dark phone plans. And there are two and a half new iPhone apps that I want to talk about. Yes, you read that right. Get over to the other side to know why it is half.

So Samsung decided to release its second Android phone in Russia. But news can never remain buried on the Internet. So we know that it is called the Galaxy Spica. This is the same phone that the rumors were calling the Galaxy 17500 Lite. Spica is the official name.

The press release says a lot of things, as usual. You know it has Android and that it runs on an 800MHz processor. But what it does not tell you is what version of Android it will ship with when it does. My guess is Android 2.0, because the release seems imminent. [read]

Then we have the T-Mobile Project Dark plans. After a long line of rumors, spy shots and leaked marketing material, the carrier finally unveiled its twin plans. And they are right on time too because their timeline was already leaked by the rumors.

So what are the plans like? Look above. There’s the $79 Even More Plus and there’s the $99 Even More. Those are the maxed out prices. They start from $49 and $59 respectively. The first one has no annual contract and the second one has a 2-year contract. [read]

Nokia in the meantime has brought out ‘Illuvial Special edition’ phones in Europe. These are normal Nokia phones with floral prints on the back, purple backlighting and purple/pink graphics in the UI. I still think of this tech industry practice of feminizing products as highly patronizing. Plus, companies tend to charge more for these frills. Et tu Nokia? [read]

-

The app store is growing rapidly and is now over 85,000 apps. Ever since the $99 iPhones became available, everyone’s been buying an iPhone. And everyone who can is making an app and sending it in. Even the American stock exchange has its own app now.

Yes sir, NASDAQ has an app in the App store. It lets you check stocks and see live activity, which are quite obvious. What is not obvious though is the fact that it shows you live tweets about various stocks from StockTweet. Now that’s something extra that is worth having. Plus the App is very well-designed. [read]

Next up we have a remote app for …get this – starting your car. That’s right folks, now you can start your car from practically anywhere with a free iPhone app. The catch? You have to buy a kit for your car for this to work and Best Buy has the exclusive retail deal on it. You have two models available. One is for $299 (for cars that have the initial system built in) and the other for $499 (for the complete system). [iTunes link]

The next one is only half new because it was already launched in the US last year. Amazon has released their iPhone shopping app in the UK. This app lets you buy from Amazon through your iPhone. It connects you to your account and also allows you to use features like one-click ordering, etc. [read]

Another Amazon app is coming soon though. I am talking about the Kindle app that is headed for us in November. [read]

So I guess these two halves make one, except that you can only buy one half right now. But the US half is already available. So that makes one too. Okay, enough with the halves.

I have longed for an ebook reader for some time, but the most popular one – the Amazon Kindle – has long been reserved solely for the US market. Whilst it has many competitors, like the Sony Reader, I had to wonder about how many titles were available for such platforms. I used to use my iPhone to read public domain books, through the

Amazon recently started exporting the Kindle to other countries, so I bought one. Amazon struggled to negotiate deals with European carriers, which was one reason why the Kindle was not already available to the European market, so instead, the Kindle roams from the AT&T network.

The features are fairly similar to those available to American customers. One can subscribe to and download newspapers, magazines and buy and and download books. One can’t, however, download the images inside the newspapers and magazines, browse the Web or subscribe to blogs. This is all down through a mobile internet connection, either 3G/GPRS.

The 3G coverage in my house is somewhat intermittent, although I still think it is just about tolerable. I find a 2G signal perfectly reasonable for downloading a book or browsing the Kindle store. I initially thought it strange that the Kindle lacks WiFi, unlike many of its competitors, but I have since realised that WiFi is unneeded.

As the mobile internet coverage is included in the purchase price of the Kindle, Amazon prevent users from browsing the web on it outside the US due to the high costs they would face. This would prove annoying to some users, although I imagine web browsing on the Kindle would prove clumsy, due to fact it’s black and white.

The Kindle can also play MP3s, so audiobooks, music and podcasts can be placed on it. I believe that you need to connect the Kindle to a computer to transfer them onto it. For books, magazines and newspapers, no computer is needed. Files can be coverted into Kindle format by emailing it to an address that will automatically send them to the Kindle (at 0.99USD/MB), by using a free Kindle email conversion service and transferring the files via USB, or by using software like Calibre. The Kindle handles the Mobipocket format, so you can get free public domain books from websites like Feedbooks and transfer them on.

The battery life is very good, due to the way text is displayed. E Ink, which the Kindle employs, has extremely low energy consumption. If you turn the wireless off, it can keep going for weeks without being charged. Charging takes a couple of hours, although the charger supplied is a US socket. It does charge via USB so this isn’t an issue.

It has a couple of other nice touches, too. One can annotate texts, have them read aloud via a text-to-speech feature (although this doesn’t work very well) and has a very attractive standby screen which rotates between different images of different writers and writing-related objects.

The International Kindle costs $260, plus postage and import tax. Altogether, mine cost around $340. This is equivalent to about £210 or €225; roughly the same as its competitors. The mobile internet is a big selling point which many competitors lack. They are only purchasable from Amazon.com, so any discounts or vouchers you may have for other Amazon sites won’t work. Also, books are only available from Amazon.com, so you pay notice the absence of the work of your country’s authors. I hope that eventually we will be able to relink our Kindles to our own national Amazon sites, although there is no certainty (or even indication) that Amazon will permit this.

If you ever needed another reason not to purchase hardware, software or media with DRM then this latest story might convince you that DRM is utterly bad for the consumers. Amazon Kindle owners who purchased books by George Orwell just realized yesterday that the books were no longer on their device. Amazon apparently deleted the books from the the user devices because of the publisher changing its mind about offering electronic versions of the books.

The customers who have bought the books did receive a refund but were left puzzled and confused. Anyone who thought that ebooks with DRM were just like book purchases might now realize that they are not at all as Amazon and the publishers seem to have the power to remove books at any time from the user’s possession. Amazon responded to user questions with the following paragraph:

The Kindle edition books Animal Farm by George Orwell. Published by MobileReference (mobi) & Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) by George Orwell. Published by MobileReference (mobi) were removed from the Kindle store and are no longer available for purchase. When this occured, your purchases were automatically refunded. You can still locate the books in the Kindle store, but each has a status of not yet available. Although a rarity, publishers can decide to pull their content from the Kindle store.

Amazon states that is is unlikely to happen again. What users do need to realize is that it can happen at anytime. That’s a huge difference to books or other media that are purchased in stores. Once you bought it it is yours and no publisher or company in the world will come to your house to get the book back and give you a refund. Customers thinking about purchasing a kindle or any other electronic device that is making use of DRM should start thinking about viable alternatives that come without DRM. It’s better for them, their children and our future.

eBay, struggling to compete with the likes of Amazon.com recently announced a new fee structure in hopes to attract new sellers. Many sellers who have previously left eBay have complained that the fees were too high and when something doesn’t sell, it costs more to list on eBay than the money it brings in.

According to a newsletter sent by eBay to its members, eBay will allow sellers to list their first five items each month without having to pay a listing fee. In the past, eBay has offered large discounts to bulk sellers on eBay leaving the burden of cost on the shoulders of those who list only a few items at a time. Former users have said, “because of this, what used to feel like an online garage sale where some treasures can be found has turned into just another online store.”

With the new fee structure, eBay hopes to turn around sales on the site. The change allows sellers to list items without paying a listing fee for the first five items listed a month. This is aimed at bringing in new sellers and bringing back many of the sellers who have left eBay because of rate increases. In lieu of the listing fees for the first five items, eBay charges a flat 8.75% commission known on eBay as the final value fee. Those familiar with selling on eBay are probably aware of the final value fee as it is charged on all sales. Because of the flat rate final value fee offered with the first five items sold each month, sellers could end up paying more in fees by using the “first five items listed are free deal” than the traditional fee structure. When a seller surpasses the first five items listed per month, they will be subject to the insertion fees, but will benefit from the tiered final value fee system.

The reaction of the eBay community is mixed with many sellers stating that the final value fee system that goes along with the free insertion fees is “a hidden way to get more money” and “more punishment for the little guy.” Following the announcement on June 16th, eBay’s stock fell 1% closing at $17.23 per share. eBay stock hit its lowest point since 2001 earlier this year, closing at $10.43 per share on March 6th. The fee change has left many to wonder, will the free listings bring eBay out of its slump or will the change in the final value fee structure drive the auction giant further into the ground?

Companies reserve the right to produce, ship and distribute their goods globally. Many produce in cheap labor countries like China, ship the goods around the globe to sell it high in countries like the United States or the European Union. It is natural to them because the process saves them lots of money. When customers try the same they usually reach artificial borders pretty soon. Some companies – like Sony – go even that far to forbid customers from one country or continent to purchase goods in another. Another example would be cheap mp3 and movie online stores in Russia and the Ukraine. Although perfectly legal in their country they are targets of the movie and music industry who do not want customers from other countries accessing the cheaper songs there.

There are other means to benefit from a global economy though, especially if you happen to live in a free trade zone like the European Union. Internet users have the power to compare product prices across several countries to save lots of money. What better way to prove this than to compare the prices of an online shop that is having stores in several countries. Take the German and British Amazon store as an example. Germans can buy in the British store and Brits can do the same in the German store without having to pay taxes or additional fees.

The decline of the British pound made it very attractive for citizens of countries that use the Euro as currency to purchase some of their goods in the UK. Here is a short list of goods that are both available in the UK and German Amazon store. Note: If you are French, Spanish or from any other country simply compare the prices with those local stores. All prices have been calculated in Euro using the latest currency exchange rates for better comparison.

Xbox 360 Elite Console (120 GB Hard Drive) – 211,80€ Amazon UK ; 299€ Amazon DE (-87,20€)
Sony PLAYSTATION 3 Console (80 GB Model) – 323,96€ Amazon UK (+1 extra game) ; 389€ Amazon DE (-65,04€)
Killzone 2 PS3 – 39,08€ Amazon UK ; 59,97€ Amazon DE (-20,89€)
Empire Total War PC Game – 26,76€ Amazon UK ; 44,95€ Amazon DE (-18,19€)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – 24,85€ Amazon UK ; 44,95 Amazon DE (-20,1€)

Not everything – but almost – is cheaper in the Amazon UK store. I have started buying all my gaming and DVD related purchases in the Amazon store. There are however a few things that people should consider. First of all, it might be necessary to buy a power converter for systems that require power. Not a huge problem as they tend to sell for a few bucks. Another aspect is the language. Many games and DVDs ship with several languages supported but this is not always the case. Not a huge problem if you speak and understand English but could be problematic for users who do not.

All items will be shipped by Amazon and there will be no additional taxes on the items. You usually have to pay for shipping and handling though which is a few Euros the most for items. This is one of the prime examples why it makes sense to look across the border to find the same goods for a cheaper price. Most customers from Euro currency countries will benefits from the prices in the Amazon UK store. There is unfortunately nothing comparable in the United States at the moment. If you purchase goods in Europe you will have to pay taxes and vice verse.

Do you have any additional tips on how to save money using the global economy to your advantage?

Did you know that it is possible to go discount hunting on the various Amazon websites? It actually is pretty easy to search for discounts at the Amazon website. All that is needed for that is a basic url that needs to be altered to reflect the category and the discount.

Depending on the item at hand you can save thousands of Dollars by searching for discount items on the Amazon website.

Before we start exploring the possibilities take a look at some of the possible discounts that you can currently find at Amazon.com.

Those are some heavy price reductions. A $10,000 discount on a watch, almost $1,500 on a Camera and $24,000 on an engagement ring.

Here is the basic structure of the url that can be used to search Amazon for discounts only:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?node=502394&pct-off=75-99

There are three parts in that url that need to be modified.

1. amazon.com: change amazon.com to another url if you would like to shop in that Amazon store instead, e.g. amazon.co.uk

2. node=502394: the node specifies the category that the search is conducted in.

3. off=75-99: This specifies the discount. You can enter any figure between 00 and 99. This example would search for discounts between 75% and 99% of the original price.

Audio & Television

If you make purchases at an Amazon store you have the option to let Amazon ship the items as soon as they are available or grouped together to save postage and handling fees. Shipping and handling does not need to be a problem as Amazon will send some items free of charge but it could be a issue. There is another problem that arises if you combine purchases of items that are deliverable and those that are not. This usually happens if you add preorder items to the purchase. Amazon will bundle these items together if you select to group items in as few shipments as possible which in turn means that you will have to wait for all items until the preordered item arrives.

This still might not be a problem if you do not need the items that can be shipped earlier right away but it could be problematic if the preordered or unavailable item is expected to be available in months. There is one simple rule that helps in that case: Never mix available and unavailable (preorder or otherwise) items in the Amazon store. This might lead to slightly higher shipping and handling costs but it will ensure that the available items will arrive in the usual shipping schedule.

One way to handle this is to add all available items to the cart and make the purchase before doing the same for those items that are not deliverable. If you already made the purchase you can still split items in the options of the Amazon order summary for that order. This will usually split the available items from the unavailable ones.

Alexa announced a new service a few days ago. Their What’s Hot on the Web service aggregates data from all Alexa toolbar users to provide a list of the hottest, i.e. the most visited, links of users who have the toolbar installed. One could say that it is similar to Digg but with a lesser chance of manipulation and an even greater preference of popular news sites like Yahoo, MSN or The Times Online.

The What’s Hot on the Web currently features three pages with a total of 50 links and links to many empty pages at the bottom which will surely be filled over time. Even more surprising than the empty pages is that the link to page 2 is missing. Visitors can access the homepage which contains the 20 most popular stories “right now” and then head over to page 3 since page 2 is not visible anywhere.

Visiting page three however displays an url that can be manipulated to be able to visit the second page as well. Simply changing the 3 at the end to a 2 will load the second page with the links 21-40.

Alexa’s What’s Hot on the Web provides another nice overview of some of the hottest topics on the Internet currently. It’s basically similar to services like Google Trends, Delicious Popular or even Digg. If you like those kind of sites you will also like this one.

Joshua writes about cool interesting stuff over on his own blog Extendably. Feel free to check it out, I’m sure you’ll like it.

No matter what your opinion is on MySpace, the announcement of the MySpace Music store and service is big news.

Perhaps the real question should be, “Why so long?” After all MySpace was the place to be for Death metal bands and sincere singer/songwriters for the last 5 years. In fact it still is the place to be, however the quality of the MySpace music services has been really lagging when compared to other services.

The last year seems to have been spent with MySpace fixing up many of the issues which turned people off the service and onto Facebook. A more consistent, redesigned website, applications, MySpace IM, auto-playback of profile songs turned off by default and other annoyances.

Growth has still been flat now for the last 6 months and MySpace is the initiative News Corp hopes will bring MySpace back into the spotlight and boost revenues.

MySpace Music is a joint venture between MySpace, Amazon and the three major music labels; Sony, Universal and Warner Music. Essentially music will be offered for unlimited free streaming and will the service will introduce new social features for music sharing such as features borrowed from Muxtape (shut down by the RIAA) and playlist creation and sharing.

For song downloads music can be bought through Amazon’s music service which provides DRM free music downloads, although only to America at the moment, I don’t know if this will change with the launch.

The service will be very prominently sponsored by huge companies such as Toyota, McDonalds and State Farm.

Whatever your opinion of MySpace is (and my own isn’t that favourable) this launch is very significant. It goes a long way towards providing users with music discovery and streaming tools, it gives greater exposure for Amazon’s mp3 download service which in turn will perhaps provide some decent competition to iTunes. It may also turn around MySpace’s lagging growth and provide some decent competition to Facebook’s seemingly unstoppable growth.

I’m watching with interest.

Whenever I want to discover some new music these days I got to 1 of 3 places; Amazon, Wikipedia and Last.FM, in that order. Amazon has got perhaps the most useful database of user reviews on the web. Eg, most of them are actually half-coherent.

Amazon also shows associated artists which are useful because once you start following links you can be on there all day discovering new artists.

Wikipedia is great for finding out the background and biography of bands and Last.Fm is sometimes useful as well. I know it should be the most useful of all, but for me personally it rarely recommends anything that I a) either haven’t heard before or b) like.

This week Amazon and IMBD joined forces and launched the oh-so catchy SoundUnwound online database for music (trying typing that in the address bar fast). Oh and it’s a beta, but that’s a given right?

What I like about it is the fact it’s dedicated music database, it’s hardly original but it differentiates itself from Wikipedia somewhat. It’s still editable by anyone and includes a number of other interactive and fairly cool features such as the discography timelines for artists below.

The sit also has the safeguard in place of all edits made by users first being approved by Amazon employees. I think this is a good idea as long as it’s prompt.

From having a bit of look around however there isn’t a huge amount here not already available on other sites like AMG or Amazon’s main site itself. In fact the best thing about Amazon was even included on UnwoundSound – the user reviews.

I have absolutely 0% interest in reading someone’s “shout-out” to the Beatles, but I would like to read their review of them.

Incidentally someone needs to invent some ‘genre-standards’ for music. Frankly as they are right now they’re useless, if we could decide on a specific set of genres and then use them across all music software and databases perhaps they could actually be useful.

Amazon Watcher is a handy application to monitor availability and changes of items at the six Amazon stores. Users can feed Amazon Watcher with full urls to Amazon items, their ASIN or ISBN-10. The product will then be loaded into the application with a preview image if available and the user can configure Amazon Watcher to react if the item is in stock or if the price of it falls below a selected level.

A reaction can also be configured with the option to load the webpage of the product in the default browser, to send an email to the user or to automatically order x units of the item for the user.

The latter is only possible if the user adds his account information in the application’s preferences. One interesting feature is support for all six Amazon stores which can be monitored independently of each other making use of their own item databases.

The software lacks some of the features of the previously reviewed Amazon Price Watcher like price statistics over a period of time but makes it up with the ability to automatically place an order for a unit at the Amazon website.

Amazon Watcher is available for computers running Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

I did make two large purchases in the last two days. I finally ordered my new computer yesterday, or better the parts for the new computer, and cannot wait to build it once all the parts arrive at my home. Most of the hardware for the PC did not change since my last article about my plans to buy a new PC. A chat with my accountant had the result that I had to buy a more expensive computer to gain the full benefits from the state.

The new PC basically consists of an Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale cpu, a Gigabyte DS4 motherboard, 4 Gigabytes of DDR2-800 RAM, a Samsung Spinpoint 1 Terabyte hard drive and a Leadtek 8800 GTS video card with 512 Megabyte RAM. I did add some other stuff to the mix to break the 1000€ goal. My plans are to write an article about the building process with lots of pictures and details about the hardware.

The second purchase was a Xbox 360 Elite video game system. I never thought I would buy one but this offer was just to tempting. The German Amazon website is currently selling each Xbox 360 system, that is the arcade, normal and elite system with a free copy of GTA IV, a free HD DVD drive and a free 3 month XBOX Live GOLD membership. I did pay 374€ (about $600) for the complete set.

I first thought a normal arcade version would do it but I have hopes that I can eventually add XBMC to the XBOX so that it can replace my old Xbox as a media center. The package with the Xbox 360 Arcade sells for 200€ (roughly $320) currently. If you wanna take a look here is the link to Amazon Germany. Remember those are European prices, they are not comparable to US prices.

I probably will have to purchase a new television soon to gain the full benefit of the video gaming system. Any suggestions on a good LCD TV ?

Kevin published a great top ten list of Amazon Power Shopper Tools at Lifehacker which is a great list of services that can save lots of time and money. I want to take a closer look at four of the ten services that have been mentioned in the article. These four are in my opinion the essential ones, the services that can save you the most, money and time wise.

Lets start with Amazon Filler Items. Shipping is not always free at Amazon and it is really awful if you miss free shipping because of a few cents. The amount that qualifies for free shipping is $25 and it would make sense to purchase another smaller item to take that hurdle and qualify for free shipping. Filler Item is a online service that finds a product for you so that you can reach that mark. Enter the price that you need to reach the $25 that qualifies for free shipping, say $0.99, pick a category and Filler Items displays all hits for you. Just add one item to the shopping cart and enjoy the free shipping benefits.

Refund Please is the next service in line. Amazon guarantees a refund if the price of an item drops in the first 30 days after the purchase. Keeping track on the prices manually is quite some work and that’s why Refund Please is so comfortable. Add an item and your email address and you will be notified if the price drops in that period that qualifies for the refund.

Buy It later is the third service that I would like to introduce. It’s an extension for Firefox or Flock that informs the user when a price of an item drops or when it comes back in stock. Useful for purchases of hard to get items or if you have a limit for a purchase.

The last service is called Jungle Crazy which finds products that are at least 70% off the original price. The problem is that I checked the website and it’s spilling out sql errors all over the place. Could be a problem because of the traffic increase due to the Lifehacker article. Should return back to normal in a few days.

Do you use other services or tools when you purchase items at Amazon ? One additional service that I use is the Coupon Code list at Retailmenot.

Amazon Subscribe and Save was mentioned in the Cybernet News RSS feed and it sounded that interesting that I decided to take a look at it myself and write a small article about it. The service offers a way to subscribe to household items and select a delivery schedule for those items. Shipping is free of charge and buyers do get a 15% discount on purchased items.

Even better that you can cancel the service at anytime. It is a bit sad that this service is currently only available on Amazon.com but it could happen that the localized Amazon portals in other countries will follow the lead if the service turns out to be a success.

What I like is that you do get a 15% discount and that the items are shipped freely to your location. This could be especially useful for household items that you use on a daily basis. Amazon offers five main categories that hold items, those are: Baby & Child Care, Food & Snacks, Health & Wellness, Household Supplies and Personal Care & Beauty.

The benefit of using a service like this is that you do not have to think of buying an item when you are running out of supplies. I’m not saying that you will never again run into a situation where you are running out of toilet paper or coffee because you still have to select a schedule for the delivery.

The danger that I see is that it could happen that you get either to many items delivered or to few. It probably will take some time until you set the right schedule for the household items. Most items seem to come in packages of two or more which explains the pricing. It did look a bit high on first glance but considering that you do sometimes get 2,3 or even 4 items for that price it sounds reasonable again.

Price Drop is a Firefox add-on that gives the user the option to track prices for selected items at the Amazon.com online store and notify him when the price drops. Besides keeping track of prices drops at the Amazon store it also notifies you if the price dropped after purchasing the item which helps getting a refund for the item that you bought because of the lower price.

The extension adds a ‘Price Drop. Track this item’ row on every single product page at Amazon. Clicking the row adds that item to the list of items that are watched for price drops. The list of tracked products can be viewed at anytime by opening it in Tools > PriceDrop and it is possible to delete items in that list as well.

The user will be notified in a popup window if a price drop has been recognized. A link to the product page at Amazon is given in that popup as well. Unfortunately the old price is not mentioned in there, only the new price is mentioned.

I always wondered which company would be able to compete with Apple’s iTunes store and only a handful companies came to my mind. Besides Microsoft and eBay Amazon came to my mind. They are a established brand and I do not know a single person who does not have an Amazon account already.

With the right strategy and advertisement they could build a service that would be able to compete with iTunes. Before I go on I would like to add that I personally think that all services are inferior to P2P even with the risks involved but it will be a long time before the Music Industry will acknowledge this.

Back to Amazon. To compete they have to do better than iTunes otherwise not many users would want to make the switch to Amazon considering Apple’s coolness factor with the kids and nerds.

Amazon tries to achieve this by offering DRM free albums that have a maximum price of $9.99 while most are sold for $4.99 to $8.99 compared to Apple’s price of $9.99. Some albums are even priced lower than this. The cheapest that I was able to find was priced at $0.99.

The license agreement grants the user the right to copy, burn, store and transfer the music downloaded for private use not mentioning any maximum number of computers or devices that you can transfer the music to. Every song can be listened to for thirty seconds before deciding whether to purchase it.

I did make a test purchase of course and have to say that the speed is excellent. I paid $0.89 for Smells Like Teen Spirit from Nirvana. The song is using 256 Kbps and has all the mp3 tags needed as well as cover art included. Amazon does store a song Id in the mp3 tags.

Visiting the site again it told me that I had purchased that song already at todays date.

Amazon does offer a download manager that users could use to download the songs but this is not a must. I decided to download the song without the download manager. I suppose it could be a good idea if you do download a lot of albums from Amazon.

The download manager can automatically add the songs to iTunes or Windows Media Player when the download finishes.

The only real problem that I see at the moment is that the amount of songs that are offered is inferior to Apple’s catalogue. Several major labels are not represented yet at Amazon’s Mp3 store. This should be a top priority for Amazon.

Users should compare prices between iTunes and Amazon Mp3 if the album or song is available at both stores and most likely the Amazon store will be cheaper if the song is available there.

A Phishing page emulates a well known trusted website and tries to capture (phish) your login data for the original website. Most phishing incidences start with mass emailing potential victims. The mail looks like an exact copy of a mail send by the original site with the only difference that a url is provided that is most of the time slightly different from that of the original site.

Once there the site again seems like an exact copy of the original site. They probably offer lots of links that are the same but the login page always does not log you into the original site but collects your user data. Sometimes you receive an error message telling you that your login data was incorrect. At the same time you are redirected to the real homepage and everything will be working as usual.

I knew of bank phishing pages, eBay phishing pages but amazon phishing pages have been new to me. Take a look at this site if you like, do not enter your real data there !

The most obvious reason this site is fake is that its url is http://secure.amazon.com.dec11es.com/ which is not the amazon.com url but one of dec11es.com.

Second the amazon login page is always a site secured with ssl, it could look like this https://www.amazon.com/..

And thirdly the complete second line (the blue one) is empty whereas the orginal amazon one has searches and other stuff located there.
