href="http://crystalshard.net/atotk.php?page=down">A Tale of Two Kingdoms is a graphic adventure that reminds me a lot of old classic Sierra adventures such as Kings Quest or Leisure Suit Larry. The game has an astonishing size of roughly 100 Megabytes which is a highly unusual size for freeware games and was developed with the flexible Adventure Game Studio.

While the story seems to unite every possible cliche of a typical fantasy setting such as a wrongful accusation of murder, a goblin invasion and an evil sorcerer it still manages to keep the player interested by it’s narration and atmosphere. The game is the typical click and point adventure with conversations that offer multiple choices.

A left-click performs an action while a right-click cycles through them. The game itself is divided into eight chapters, several side plots, cutscenes, randomly placed items and a score system to keep everyone interested in playing on or again.

The first level is kind of an introduction to game mechanics with several easy puzzles and some talking to receive further background information. The player is rewarded with Honor and Wisdom points for solved puzzles and actions throughout the game which make up the score that he can achieve in it.

Every sidequest should be played if your desire is a 100% Wisdom and Honor score. What I like about the game is that it has five endings namely two bad ones, one evil ending, a good ending and a so called best ending depending on your choices in the game.

This adds a lot to the replay value of this great game.

Weekend Fun Purgatorio

Entertainment

Games

adventure game

ags
<guid

It features an Irish soldier of the peacekeeping forces who gets shot in his arm during active duty only to wake up wounded in a strangely familiar looking town not able to remember how he went there.

The players task is to help Frank, that is the name of the soldier, find out what happened during the blackout. The style of the adventure consists of a mix of hand drawn and photographed objects which creates a unique visual style. I would suggest to start the configuration tool before playing for the first time to make sure all settings are the way you want them to be.

You only need the mouse to control the game.A right-click cycles through the options like walk, talk and use that are available and a left-click performs the action.

Features of Purgatorio

800×600 resolution with 32 bit colours.
- A mixture of photographed and hand drawn characters and backgrounds, tailored into a common visual style.
- Animated characters, locations, and effects.
- Interact with the inhabitants of Purgatorio.
- Inventory and conversation based puzzles, as well as some lateral thinking.
- Explore over 25 unique locations, indoor and outdoor.
- There’s a couple of Easter Eggs to be found, and a few sly references to other games and genres.
- All music is original and created solely for this game. 8 different tracks add atmosphere to exploration and puzzles.
- Simple, easy to use interface.
- Not really a feature but occasional bad language and strong, implied violence.
- Finally, an interesting storyline and game world.

As I said before the game is rather dark and disturbing which means it is not that suited for minors at all. If you still believe this is the right entertainment for the weekend for you head over to the thread in the AGS forum that has the announcement and a download link.
