He felt that it was way to loud and wanted to know if there was a program to reduce the noise that the netbook makes. I quickly stumbled upon the Acer Aspire One Fan Control utility which proved to be very useful. While the software program was not able to regulate the fan speed it was able to set the temperature threshold so that the fan kicks in at a higher temperature level.

Acer Aspire One Fan Control works on computer systems running Windows XP or Windows Vista. It will place itself in the Windows system tray upon execution. A click on that icon will display a status bar containing information about the current cpu temperature and options to set the fan on and off temperatures. Finding the right settings might take some time as it largely depends on the climate but also the reliability (meaning a silent system that always crashes is not the right solution) of the computer system.
